Discover Doux, Deux-Sèvres: charm and exploration

The Mollets quarry, owned by the Parthenay-Gâtine Community of Municipalities and developed and managed in partnership with the Conservatoire d'Espaces Naturels de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, was exploited from the end of the 19th century until 1950 to produce limestone. It is now protected and developed so that young and old alike can marvel at a 160 million year old heritage. The interpretation trail allows you to discover the close links between geology, landscape, biodiversity and human activities! Various activities are offered throughout the year by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the association l'Homme et la Pierre.

From the banks of the Dive, you will discover a landscape of steep valleys and hillsides. This trail will lead you through picturesque villages such as Mazeuil and Le Verger-sur-Dive which has the particularity of being made up of only one street with the famous porch-balets of Poitou.

This 7.3 km circuit allows you to discover the charming commune of Pressigny, its heritage and its landscapes.

This 5.4 km circuit allows you to discover the heritage of the commune of Oroux, in particular its 2 castles (privately owned), and offers pretty views from the car park next to the village castle.

Departing from the church in Aubigny, you'll set off on a 15 km trail of moderate difficulty. Most of the route is on farm tracks, with stretches in the undergrowth, and a few short stretches require careful footing. There's a nice straight stretch on the way, which will make you work on your perseverance! You'll pass close to the Château de la Roche Faton, with its splendid view. You'll also discover a rich heritage with numerous wash-houses, wayside crosses and a dovecote.

Departing from the church in Lhoumois, you set off on a 10 km trail of easy difficulty. This course is aimed at beginners who are ready to progress to a higher level of difficulty. You'll ride mainly on wide paths and stretches of road, with many single-track sections requiring concentration and agility. This route will take you to the Forge à Fer on the banks of the Thouet, a place of great historical interest.

An enchanting, little-known river, a thousand-year-old treasure with crystal-clear waters, the Dive between Sauzeau and La Grimaudière offers a charming natural setting and an authentic, well-preserved heritage. Along the way, you'll see remarkable trees, the Moulin de Chollay, the Moulin à eau de la Seigneurie, the Roches quarry, the Tumulus du Puy Taillé and the Moulin de Surin. You can tailor-make your own tour: the Dive is 50 km long.

In the village of Marnes, on the border between the Deux-Sèvres and Vienne departments, an old dairy was built in 1907. Restored in keeping with the authenticity of the site, the dairy overlooks a hiking trail called "La Sente Divine", which runs alongside the river Dive. The 110m² first floor comprises an entrance hall, living room, kitchen, linen room and games room. Access by 7 steps to the half-floor with a corridor leading to an independent toilet, Bedroom 1 (1 bed 160) and Bedroom 2 (2 beds 90 convertible into 1 bed 180) and an independent shower room. Sylvie and Christophe will be delighted to welcome you to our 220 m2 house, where you can rent one or two bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom. You can also enjoy breakfast or lunch on our separate terrace. One bedroom has a double bed (140cm), and a crib is available on request. The second bedroom has a double bed (140cm) and a 2-seater sofa bed. We can easily park your bicycles, vehicles or other items. The other rooms in our house are private, but we'd be delighted to welcome you around a roaring fire in our living room, or to share a meal in our kitchen. You can use our kitchen if you wish Petanque pitch and table tennis available. Pets not allowed as we have two dogs, three cats, chickens etc...

This charming gîte on the banks of the river Dive, in the hamlet of Retournay, lies between Marnes and Moncontour. Once a water mill where several generations of millers succeeded one another, this workplace has been transformed over time into a haven of peace. La villa des Licoches, housed in an old 13th-century building, features a large living room with fireplace, fully-equipped kitchenette, sitting area, shower room and separate toilet on the first floor. Nice house in a small and peaceful village. Many opportunities for hiking or cycling from home, in the landscapes of the Gâtine Poitevine: Thouet valley , Cébron lake for the closest. The Cébron lake, 5 minutes by car, is a Natural Area famous for ornithology. The house is located on the bike paths of the "Vélofrancette" and 5 minutes on foot from the long hiking trail "GR36". Futuroscope, Puy du Fou, Marais Poitevin, Chateaux de la Loire, Atlantic Ocean are accessible by car in around 1 hour/1 and a half. The house includes - 2 bedrooms (2 double bed ans 1 single bed), 1 living room (3 additionnal sleeping : a sofa bed and a bench), 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom, 1 WC and 1 laundry (washing machine) The house has an independent enclosed courtyard. A barbecue is available. It is also possible to have access to a small pond to fish or simply picnic at the water's edge.

The Molletts quarry is a site of major geological interest. It is actually an old, recently renovated quarry no longer in use; its has been reequipped for touristic and pedagogical purposes. It has been set up to as to allow the visitor to observe three successive Jurassic strata. The site belongs to the 'man and stone' network. Free access.

The quarry is open all year round, free of charge. A trail punctuated by interpretation panels allows visitors to explore the quarry on their own. The Mollets quarry is of fundamental historical and scientific interest in the Poitou-Charentes region. A testimony to past human activity, the Mollets open-cast quarry was mined for its limestone and fed a lime kiln built nearby. Although activity ceased in the 1950s, the old quarry is still of scientific interest. The quarry face exposes three successive Jurassic geological formations, representing almost 15 million years of sedimentary records. The site is also classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS). Free guided tours are scheduled every year (see L'Homme et la Pierre program) or by appointment all year round.

Salle des Fêtes

The Château de Cherves continues the restoration of its seigneurial dwelling (built from the 15th to the 17th century). Its keep, classified as a Historic Monument, has now been saved from ruin; it has remained very authentic, as it has been little altered since the 13th century, and offers visitors a glimpse into the life of a family of lords in a medieval fortress, from the 13th to the 15th century.
