Hiking trail "Cardalhac". Nicknamed “the little Nizza from Cantal", squeezed around its squat bell tower, the town of Maurs has retained the almost perfect circle shape given to it by its ramparts and which is now home to the welcoming Tour de Ville, built on the old moat. Take a stroll through its narrow streets with their southern flavour and discover its medieval architecture. Then head out into the surrounding area on the Cardalhac trail. You will appreciate the gentle landscape and the superb views over the Maurs Basin, the Mounts of Cantal, Lot and Aveyron. The interest of this themed trail, mainly in the undergrowth, lies in the creation of a dozen panels, placed along the route, on the marvellous world of bees and in the panoramas that you will contemplate along the way. Ruins of the estate of Naucaze built from the 12th to the 17th century. The castle is currently being restored. It still has a 12th century tower which is the oldest architectural element. Looted and burnt down in 1792, and visible from road D133.

We're not talking about "galloping" demography yet, but it's clear that Parlan attracts many new inhabitants. Visitors, for their part, would be wrong to gallop along the village's 23 km of trails, so attractive is the surrounding countryside.

Maurs is the southern version of Auvergne. It has a lilting accent and the town's appearance is more akin to its neighbours in Lot or Aveyron than to the other Cantal towns. It's not called the Little Nice of Cantal for nothing... The town is squeezed around the Abbey of St. Caesarius, a 14th century gothic vessel, and has retained the almost perfect circular shape of its ramparts. The abbey church contains the reliquary bust of Caesarius, a masterpiece of 12th century goldsmith's art, as well as a collection of beautiful wooden statues and sculpted stalls, unique in Auvergne. The village of Saint-Saury, whose name is hidden behind that of its church, will delight lovers of megalithic mysteries, stories of the Resistance, well-hidden Romanesque treasures and beautiful visible trout!

The Roc Rôti is a megalithic complex whose menhir-like shape suggests that it was a place dedicated to Gallic worship. Also worth seeing in the direction of Sousceyrac: the Escalmels Chapel, the Luzette Memorial (in memory of the Resistance fighters of the Chénier field, a parachuting site during World War II).

In a protected environment, this charming and characterful place, classified as a sensitive natural area, lends itself to relaxation. The Moulin du Fau estate consists of approximately 7 hectares of land located on the banks of the Rance, about 1 km from the centre of Maurs. This site includes an old grain mill and a barn, a complex network of feeder and diversion canals, a fish pond and meadows. It's very easy to walk around the pond (about 1 km).

As in many Châtaigneraie villages, Le Trioulou has a pretty church and a picturesque castle with turrets. But there's something, or rather someone, you won't find anywhere else: Mélia the bee!

The heart of the Châtaigneraie beats to the rhythm of the River Rance. It serves as a backdrop for the many cyclists who take the cycle route between Maurs and Marcolès, which is part of the Grande Traversée du Volcan à Vélo (“Crossing the Volcano”) or GT2V. This route follows the winding course of the river and offers plenty of coolness in summer. Its history has been shaped by mills, railways and hydroelectricity.

Roumégoux, on the edge of Quercy, stands out like many other Cantal villages for the charming combed steeple of its church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The village is also famous for its chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Bourniou, which stands 2 km away. Don't miss the Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Grâces-du-Bourniou as well as the legendary Saint-Géraud Fountain, both located on the road to Saint-Saury (free visit, open in spring and summer).
