Lac Achard loop

Lac Achard loop

This small lake is located in an exceptional natural setting. It is an ideal destination for a family outing, with children. The path stays interesting with its berries, pine trees and a magnificent view of the Taillefer. From Saint-Martin-d'Uriage take the road towards Chamrousse (D111), pass Chamrousse 1650 - Recoin and park at Chamrousse 1750 - Roche Béranger in the "La Croisette" parking lot. From the "La Croisette" parking lot, take the narrow road up to Chalet le Malamute, until you come to a wide bend to the left where a track branches off. Follow this path to the right, towards the lake. Initially gently sloping, the rocky path alternates between gentle ascents and descents, with easy sections over rocky slabs. Leaving the path leading up from the Arselle meadow to the right, you finally reach the grassy plateau of Lac Achard (1917m). The numerous boulders and small streams scattered across the plateau are a great playground for children. ⚠ Please note: the Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) "Tourbière de l'Arselle et lac Achard" is a protected area (classified APPB - Arrêtés Préfectoraux de Protection Biotope), so there are a few rules to observe to help protect it. Swimming, lighting fires, camping, gathering and dumping garbage are strictly forbidden, as is bivouacking during the peak season between early May and late October. Please stay on the trails. ☆ The little extra: the "hiking star" summer medal for children! On presentation of a photo taken at the hiking site, brave little hikers will be awarded a named diploma + possible purchase of the "lac Achard" silver star to hang proudly on the backpack (on sale for €3 at Tourist Offices).

Café A

Located on the ground floor of La Maison Aribert, Le Café A is housed in a huge cube bathed in light. Chef Aribert's other signature in his village coffee theme is based on recipes inspired by those of our mothers and grandmothers. Occupying one of the gables of the former grand-chalet of Uriage-les-Bains, Le Café A is a unifying place. Built around a generous table d'hôte overlooked by an 80-white opaline chandelier reminiscent of early 20th-century house lamps, the restaurant seats 35, with customers divided between comfortable banquettes, individual tables and a private mezzanine area. The restaurant's roots in the region and its culture have not been forgotten. By leaving certain traces of the former grand-chalet, the Chef has sought to enhance a strong regional past with a modern touch. Like the imposing wall facing the dining room, which reveals the history of this ancient building, revealing itself to visitors like an open book. Adapting to the needs and constraints of our customers by offering them suitable formulas is a question of common sense for Le Café A, which adjusts its proposals to the rhythm of the week: MONDAY TO SATURDAY, A simple lunch/dinner formula with a dish of the day, inspired by market produce, the vegetable garden, the season and new arrivals. SUNDAYS, Café A offers its customers an exceptional 2-course brunch (11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.), with an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring a wide variety of sweet and savory dishes and seasonal produce, accompanied by an aperitif, glass of wine, 1/2 bottle of water, coffee, herbal tea or hot chocolate. EVERY AFTERNOON, Le Café A is transformed into a veritable tea and coffee room, with a menu of selected teas and coffees, herbal infusions from the house garden, fresh juices and homemade cakes.

Refuge de la Pra

Refuge de la Pra

At 2100 meters, the refuge of La Pra, close to the many clear lakes of the Massif Belledonne, will delight anglers, hikers and families. La Pra is also a wonderful pasture where you can encounter marmots, wild sheep and ibex. The refuge is a stopover on the GR 738 from Chamrousse. The surrounding peaks are often accessible in summer, either on footpaths or "off-track" for those who prefer less frequented areas (Vaudaine, Doménon, Croix de Belledonne sectors), as soon as the snow has disappeared. You are entering a Natura 2000 protected area where swimming in rivers and lakes is strictly prohibited. From the Pré Raymond parking lot, take the forest road, then a path to the left (south-east). A few hairpin bends bring you to an almost level path leading out of the forest. Cross the stream before reaching the dam and Lac du Crozet. Hike GR®738 from Chamrousse - the Pra shelter, nothing to envy to the greatest routes of great trekking! Discover the beautiful and more or less secret mountain lakes on the 10th stage of the GR®738 : Léama, Longet, Bernard, Claret ... The hiking trail to the refuge de la Pra alternates between ponds and clearings, but it's above all the crystal-clear lakes that make this place exceptional: - lac Léama: 1,880 meters above sea level and 0.13 hectares (1,300 m2) in size (bivouac allowed 7-9pm, but fire and swimming prohibited) - lac Bernard: 1997 meters altitude and 0.4 hectares (4000 m2) surface area (bivouac tolerated 19h-9h, fishing authorized with fishing permit, but fire and swimming prohibited) - lac Longet: 2027 meters altitude, 2.4 hectares surface area and 7.5 meters maximum depth (bivouac tolerated 19h-9h, fishing authorized with fishing permit, but fire and swimming prohibited) - lac Claret: 2047 meters altitude, 1.2 hectares surface area and 5.5 meters maximum depth (fishing authorized with fishing permit, but bivouacs, fires and swimming prohibited). - lac Merlat: altitude 2044 meters, surface area 2.4 hectares, maximum depth 12 meters (fishing authorized with fishing permit, but bivouac, fire and swimming prohibited) - lac David: 2212 meters altitude, 1 hectare surface area and 11 meters maximum depth (bivouac tolerated 7pm-9am, fishing authorized with fishing permit, but fire and swimming prohibited). It is located 500 meters above the refuge de la Pra, to the west when you have the refuge at your back. Nearby: Lac du Crozet and Lac du Doménon (Lac du Petit Doménon and Lac du Grand Doménon). Once a chalet-hotel, the refuge de la Pra was very popular with hikers and climbers. Now refurbished, it sleeps 90 in summer. The GR®738 - Haute traversée de Belledonne is a challenge to be taken up over one or more days to discover the southern part of this massif, leaving from Chamrousse for a one-day loop or a two-day itinerary. Lakes and pastures meet ski lifts, tourism and pastoralism share the space. Swimming in the lakes is forbidden by municipal decree of the commune of Revel.

Musée Hébert

Musée Hébert

The renovated property of painter Ernest Hébert invites visitors to step into the artist's 19th century world and to discover his work through the presentation of his collections. The Hébert museum of La Tronche is a somewhat unusual museum: sheltered behind walls, this two and a half hectare estate has protected itself from the wears of time. The artist's house has held onto the spirit of the place and the intimate character of a family house. The garden, sometimes hidden in the shadows, still holds onto the artist's memories of Italy. The museum, as soon as it opened in 1979, set a double mission for itself: encourage a better knowledge of 19th century art through the artist's collection and to promote contemporary artists, both aspiring and confirmed. The permanent exhibit halls take the visitor on a journey through Ernest Hébert's long artistic career via his works and those of his friends. They illustrate the academics, whose complexity and importance we are rediscovering today and which sheds light on official art. Between the romanticism of Eugene Delacroix and the symbolism of Gustave Moreau, Hébert paves the way for a deeper understanding of 19th century aesthetic movements. The painter Ernest Hébert (1817-1908), after having studied at l'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris and winning the Grand Prix of Rome for historic painting, became famous with "La Malaria" which he presented at the 1850 Salon. A flourishing career was set before him and he shared his time between France and Italy, where he served twice as director of the Academy of France in Rome (1867-1873 and 1885-1890). He very soon became a sought-after portraitist for high Parisian society during the Second Empire and Third Republic, where he frequented upper class salons. Hébert keenly expressed the poetry and secrecy of his feminine models, but it was in Italy that he found the most inspiration, preferring to depict rural scenes imprinted with a melancholic realism. He was responsible for the mosaic on the apse of the Pantheon, inaugurated in 1884. The museum Through a chronological and thematic layout, the museum presents Hébert's work plus the paintings and sculptures of his friends and students. His years of study, his life at the Villa Medicis, his stays in Italy, the two terms he spent as a director, and his Parisian career are presented. The recreated studio has been restored to its original function. The numerous drawings included in the collection are presented in rotation, in the drawing room, set up in one of the house's bedrooms (2nd floor). The house The house recreates the atmosphere that the artist knew with its period furniture and souvenirs, including the restored Laetitia Bonaparte salon. The impressive 17th century frescoes, uncovered during renovation work, depict the ancient history of the house. Numerous testimonies from Hébert's mentors—David d'Angers, Delaroche, his friends from the Académie de France in Rome, Gounod, Regnault,--and his patrons—Théophile Gautier or Princess Mathilde—evoke his career as well as illustrating the artististic wealth of the prolific 19th century. The gardens Set aside from urban life, the museum's park, with its shaded alleyways, rippling brooks, and trellises, has held onto the charm of the artist's "secret garden." In 2004, it was recognized as a "Remarkable Garden," an award recently created by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. This label recognizes the garden's quality and charm, whose richness stems as much from its 17th and 18th century origins as from the modifications made by Ernest Hébert and his wife Gabrielle. The juxtaposition of well groomed, Italian style areas with English garden-type landscapes, the antique elements, and the numerous water basins are reminiscent of the Villa Medicis in Rome and make for an original setting, open freely to the public.

Les Vernes power station
10 km

Les Vernes power station

Commissioned in 1918, this power station was built to meet the increased energy requirements of the Keller et Leleux factory, producers of synthetic cast-iron in Livet during the First World War. It is currently opened to the public. Les Vernes factory, which was given listed building status on 2 September 1994, is not open to the public. This power station, which was built around 15 years after Building II of the Livet power station, was designed to "showcase" water. All the functions of the power station, from the water chamber to the outlet canal are concentrated in the same area. In 1925, Charles-Albert Keller described his project as follows, "Firstly, I followed my personal taste in the matter. I then wanted to show that hydropower and tourism can go hand-in-hand and I wished to play a role in making this area, to which I am so attached, more attractive. Lastly, but certainly not least, I wanted to offer my respected staff additional proof of my affectionate solicitude by enabling them to benefit from these features that make their lives and the lives of their families more pleasant." The upper terrace, which is level with the road, was created as a French-style formal garden with an alley, trees, lawns lined with vases, a stone fountain (which is in fact the pressure chamber-surge tank) and fence. Projectors were originally mounted on pylons. The lower terrace containing the power station is at river bank level. It is a huge courtyard, partly tree-lined and designed to be admired from all distances and viewpoints. It is fenced off to the north by the Romanche river and to the west by the outlet canal, making it look like a castel protected by a moat and drawbridge. Linking the two levels, the immense stone staircase, made of moulded cement, drew its inspiration from the Vizille Castel (layout, balusters and alcoves). The staircase is a functional feature for circulating the water, but over and above this, it is a theatrical surprise and a practical way of exploring the site. Originally it was lit up at night and featured a wayside cross.
