1- From the town hall of La Chapelle Taillefert, go away from the village by taking the small road towards Massebrot. Stay on the road and walk past Borderies. 2- When you arrive at Massebrot, take the track on the right. At the first intersection, go to the right. Walk past the Patural (possibility to reach the rock of the lost woman) and stay on the narrow road to go down to the village of Montmallet. 3- When you reach the village, take the first track on the left, then the first one on the right to go down to Chier. 4- After the village, turn to the right to go down to La Chapelle-Taillefert. At the main crossing, turn to the right to come back in front of the city hall.

Hike along the landscaped banks of the Thaurion. You'll pass by the birthplace of Martin Nadaud, the famous Creus mason who became a member of parliament.

Go down the Rue Antoine d'Aubusson which runs alongside the château.At the national road, turn left.Cross the bridge over the Thaurion and take the first road on the left. 500 m further on, after the old mill, continue alongside the Thaurion. Follow the path to the road and turn left to reach the village of La Martinèche. Pass in front of Martin Nadaud's house. To discover the Nine-step stone 500 m further on, turn right at the crossroads at the Martinèche exit. After less than 100 m, go up by the path on the left. At the top of the hill is an enormous and enigmatic rock, said to have beneficial virtues. To continue the walk, retrace your steps. At Martin Nadaud's house, leave the road and take the forest track that goes up the hill. Then turn right at the first path.At the road, turn left. After 1 km, at the crossroads with the D941, turn right to reach the village of Pontarion.

The gîte's location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area of Sardent (shops) and the activities on offer in the area. Swimming at the Masmangeas lake (supervised in season), trout fishing (étang des puits La Chassoule, 2.5 km from the village of Sardent) or carp fishing (étang du Thouraud), municipal tennis court. Pontarion is 9km away and Guéret (all shops and services) 15km.

The GAEC des Mazeires offers you Limousin beef, born, raised and processed on the farm. Sausages, pâtés, terrines, vacuum-packed meat in boxes for direct sale at the farm by reservation or at markets and events.

The church is the only vestige of the former hospital commandery. It houses an enigmatic recumbent statue and hides a beautiful crypt, home to a small bat. Free admission all year round.

Described by Dr. Janicaud (in Volume 26 of Mémoires de la Société des Sciences de la Creuse, 1935), it roughly represents a seated figure carved from a single block of granite, 1.10 m high. The head is spherical; the eyes and nostrils are represented by simple round holes, the mouth by a horizontal groove. The arms are depicted alongside the body. This figure is thought to represent a Gallic divinity from the first centuries AD. Druids would have performed rituals to protect livestock. The Christian religion adopted this pagan belief for its own: "to tame the cattle, you had to make them turn around the marmot three times while reciting prayers".

It was in this wood, near the communes of Sardent and Maisonnisses, that on September 7, 1943, seven young maquisards fell to German bullets. A walk through the woods between the granite chaos evokes the creation of this maquis by young Creusois and its brutal and violent end, which made it a symbol.
