This walk takes you to the heart of the small villages of the Landes de Gascogne, an itinerary rich for the senses that mixes the fragrances of the pine forest with others more exotic. Departure point, church square.

Belhade ... Where does this name come from? From the wide valley (from the Gascon "Vath lada") on which the castle of Belhade was built in the 13th century, or from a beautiful fairy (from the Gascon "bel hade") who lived there. Long called the "golden tree" for the wealth it generated, maritime pine is a must-have in the land of François Mauriac, who so loved to write about them.

This stage passes through the Parc Naturel Régional des Landes de Gascogne, with its immense pine forest planted by man, and the river Leyre, where you can take a refreshing break. Since the fires of 2022, there have been fewer trees in the landscape, but nature is quickly reclaiming its rights! Great! This part of the route is a great opportunity for a swim or picnic: head for the Domaine Départemental Gérard Lagors. Ponds with supervised beaches in season, leisure activities and walks to stretch your legs. We'd like to share with you our favorite, because a bit of art while pedaling can't hurt: works of art in the heart of nature line the route through the Forêt d'art Contemporain. You'll find one in François Mauriac's former vacation chalet in Saint-Symphorien and another right on the edge of the piste in Salles.

On this itinerary, a selection of breathtaking, disconcerting and intriguing works of art, created by artists in unusual places and which echo the history of the Landes de Gascogne. Both on the "camin roumiou" and on the "camin aoulhié" (pilgrims' and transhumance routes), the crossing of these villages was difficult for the pilgrims of Compostela as well as for the shepherds. Drive along the small roads of the Gironde high moor through a discovery circuit of the airials, a traditional "open" habitat. Around a vast expanse of short grass, there is a manor house with a large awning facing east, houses and outbuildings.

The Grande Leyre and the Eyre are real waterways with banks lined with royal osmunda. The water, of rust color, slides on the undulating sand. The place is studded with dragonflies. Alder and oak trees form a vegetal canopy. The Leyre, of amber color, flows on a bed of sand. Clearly identifiable by the deciduous vegetation which contrasts with the maritime pine forest of the plateau, this river is rich and fragile. You will be able to stay there : - either in the heart of the village, in an old presbytery rehabilitated into an Ecogîte with a large capacity (10 people), combining modernity and charm of the past, in a serene environment and full nature - or in five comfortable gîtes, of varying capacities (3 to 7 people) located on the outskirts of an airial, on a site equipped for leisure and relaxation: multi-sports grounds, games for children, fitness area, swimming pool (July and August), pond...

For more than 25 years, the Landes département has been actively committed, through its Espaces Naturels Sensibles (ENS) remit, to halting the erosion of biodiversity and combating the disappearance of natural areas, in order to pass on its exceptional natural heritage for future generations. The Schéma Nature 40, adopted in 2018 for a ten-year period, is the biodiversity component of the département's ENS policy. This ambitious plan aims to federate players who share the Department's objectives in terms of protecting Landes' natural areas and local biodiversity, to consolidate its network of Nature 40 sites via acquisitions, labeling, contractualization and site management, to complete and enhance knowledge of Landes' biodiversity and finally to share knowledge through education and awareness-raising.

The Musée de l'Estupe Huc (extinguishes fire in Gascon) was created in 1994. The name comes from a defense device (patented in 1936 by Jean Bordes), a mobile suction and pressure pump carried on a trailer and towed by a bicycle or motorcycle. Housed in a rustic setting between the fire station and the Maison des Associations, the museum's aim is both historical and educational. It traces the history of the great fires of '47 and '49 through to the creation of the fire department. Numerous pieces of equipment are on display. It demonstrates the fragility of our cultivated forest, and recommends all useful precautions. For walkers and schoolchildren, all this is visualized in three video films. In the shift from Artemis, Greek divinity, to Diana, Latin divinity, and from Diana to Diana in her multiple forms, the figure of the initially unapproachable goddess has gained in familiarity and sensuality. The GARAGE gallery is a non-profit art gallery dedicated to promoting the visual arts in rural areas.

Since 2009, the Forêt d?Art Contemporain has aimed to create a genuine tool for the production and dissemination of contemporary art in rural areas, in the form of a regional itinerary. By welcoming artists in residence, showcasing their work and producing evolving works of art as part of an itinerary, this project plays a full part in the cultural development of the Park?s territory. With some thirty works and a dozen projects in progress, this project undertaken by La Forêt d?Art Contemporain goes beyond the construction of a cultural tourism destination to gradually enrich the daily lives of the people of the Landes region.

Programmation : Jean-Francois Dumont Probably time is the main character here: different durations characterize the place, the history of the village embodied in the two pines francs, the movement of the little Leyre, the layout of the path, the gallery forest with its density of vegetation, its collapses and its play of shadows. The bamboo plantation bursts into these rhythms, artificializing the nature of the Landes. It plays the role of exotic scenery. It is the perfect place to welcome another artifice which is that of art: here a polystyrene composition laminated with epoxy resin and covered with resinous bark. In this case the sculpture has the presence of a chimera, an assembly of uncertain shapes under a bark dress. It is a sign of this constant tension between latent enchantment and anxiety.

Discover the Plata marsh in Sore with naturalist technicians from the Landes departmental council. Located in the Petite Leyre gallery forest, the marsh is made up of a wide variety of natural environments: deciduous woods, ancient meadows, a lake and a peat bog. All these habitats are home to plant and animal species of major interest. Guided tours on reservation.

The Cercle de l'Union of Luxey is an active member of the Fédération des cercles de Gascogne. Born from the social and republican movements which followed the Revolution, these associative cafés remained today places of meetings and conviviality in the boroughs of the Landes de Gascogne. 7 circles of Gascony became cafés de Pays. The Cercle de l'Union is the main venue for the Musicalarue festival in the summer and is open all year round.
