From pretty little meadows enclosed in the forest to forest paths in the undergrowth, this hike allows you to discover numerous ponds and the diversity of the landscapes of the Double forest.

Between meadows and shaded paths in the undergrowth, this hike allows you to discover the wetland of the Gau washhouse as well as the ponds and landscapes of the Double forest. The loop is 6 km long but the connection is 1,4 km x 2, that is to say 8,8 km in all.

From the village of Chantérac and its Romanesque church, the loop of the hamlets leads to beautiful views over the Salembre valley along pleasant shady paths. It allows the discovery of varied landscapes and an important vernacular heritage.

A beautiful, fairly shady loop, combining wooded parts with a crossing of small villages, with views over the unspoilt countryside. The route is quite varied and hilly, on unpaved paths, except at the end. It also allows you to discover some remarkable heritage features.

The village of Beauronne was the village of potters for many years. The house of pottery installed in the heart of the village perpetuates the tradition and offers courses, exhibitions. The originality of the village can be seen when you look up with the many finials adorning the roofs of the buildings. Along the stream that gave its name to the village are the mills of Maine, Beauronne and Petit Boissonnie which is converted into fish farming. The loop of the potters is a superb family walk on the trail of the potters between forest and small heritage. The route is punctuated by water points: fountains, streams, ponds... ideal for our dog friends!

The walk begins quietly with the discovery of charming hamlets with a rich built heritage (Bernardoux, Mauriac) to continue in the forest and finally return to the starting point by the charming streets of the village. The village was inhabited 15,000 years before our era, as evidenced by objects from the Magadalene period discovered on various sites. However, it is the Gallo-Roman remains that give us the first precise information on the history of Douzillac and Mauriac, two names testify to this: Dulciliacum and Marius which became Douzillac and Mauriac.

The Isle is a river on which a lot of merchandise was transported between the Périgord and the Gironde. They were transported by flat-bottomed boats that were towed from the shore to their place of origin.

This route allows you to follow the greenway on the left bank of the Isle between Neuvic and Sourzac, or to follow the river on foot on the right bank from Douzillac. To start cycling, go to Neuvic S/ L'Isle, near the reproductions of wooden and clay houses typical of the Double, near the river.

From its Gallo-Roman past, Saint-Sulpice-de-Roumagnac seems to have inherited its name. Roumagnac is probably linked to a Roman centurion who came from Romagne and settled there. Today, the commune offers its visitors an interesting architectural heritage. Indeed, it still has some remarkable houses as well as old farm buildings or farms that bear witness to its past.

The forest of the Double is overflown every year by flights of wood pigeons. The blue bird, which in the southwest is called the pigeon, migrates from Scandinavia to southern Europe and even Africa to spend the winter. The peak of the birds' passage in the Dordogne is between October and November. Each year, the Federation of hunters carries out monitoring of the goshawks: they are counted as they pass through the Pyrenean passes; some are equipped with Argos beacons to study their migration behavior. Finally, in Dordogne, sedentary goshawks are ringed to study their movements. In the forest of the Double, the paloumayres (pigeon hunters) are numerous. You will pass by some of them. In these installations, the hunters attract the pigeons and encourage them to land in the trees.

Les Moutons de Fernand is a free-range breeding operation for Hampshire Down ewes. The ewes and lambs are grass-fed, mainly under walnut trees in the Dordogne, for direct sale of grass-fed lambs in boxes. The family farm also grows three varieties of walnut trees for the production of walnuts in shell, dried or fresh, walnut kernels and walnut oil. Fruit and oil are sold directly from the farm and through cooperatives.
