Tagging n ° 90 "Le Langard" is a varied circuit between woods and meadows. Well for a first discovery or with young mountain bikers, it allows you to discover the Belvédère de la Scie (view of Lake Clairvaux). To note ; the return is on the road.

Hiking around this lake is the Grande Randonnée de Pays of 82km, do able over 2 – 4 days on foot and it will enable you to discover all the attractions of this magnificent huge lake: the giant potholes in Pont de Poitte, the bridge of la Pyle, the dam wall, the beaches of Surchauffant, Bellecin and la Mercantine, etc. It is also possible to do this circuit by mountain bike.

Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) and Selle Français sport horses. We are committed to respect for animals, the environment and transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several exceptional meat-producing regions (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef, etc.) throughout the Japanese archipelago. It was at the end of the 19th century, after more than a hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen previously used for agricultural work. The breed was selected for the marbling of its meat, but also for its docility. Respect for animals and their environment is an integral part of Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef cuts in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of hardy breeds that is lost with selection to increase muscle mass. It explains the unrivalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Wagyu beef is also rich in unsaturated fatty acids, notably Omega 3. These essential fatty acids are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for, avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development, reaching maturity at 3 years. Charolais, an excellent traditional meat! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected to produce quality meat. For direct sale, we reserve young cows aged 4-6 years who have had one to three calves: this is what gives the tastiest, most tender meat. They are fattened with the same high-quality feed as Wagyu cattle, and the fattening period (from 4 to 12 months) ensures that the meat is very marbled for the breed, and therefore very tasty. Breeding in the Ain region. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding, and combine the very best in terms of genetics, feed, habitat and rearing methods, with respect for the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' feed: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix) and cereals form the basis. The cows and their calves are raised freely in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate respect for the environment into our breeding approach: hedges are planted, manure is treated by methanization and the energy thus supplied is used to dry fodder in the barn. We optimize crop production by alternating grazing with cattle and horses (thus also reducing parasite pressure). Finally, in keeping with Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of our animals through respectful and attentive domestication.

A former estate of the Counts of Savoy and architect Tony Ferret, Château de Treffort in the Ain department overlooks Bresse from the Revermont mountains. Come and discover the Château de Treffort, its history, the monument, meet Amédée V and Tony Ferret, its two emblematic occupants, and enjoy a magnificent setting on the heights of the village. The Château museum comprises ten rooms, divided into two zones: the Château entrance with the Tour Tony Ferret (8 rooms) and the Tour du Papegai (2 rooms). Visitors discover the history of the Château, from its construction in the Middle Ages to its renovation by Tony Ferret in the 20th century. The tour explores several centuries of history, including seigniorial life and the family of Amédée V, the château's first Savoyard owner. Among the various environments that make up humid areas, reed beds play an essential role: they stabilise the bank and create an area where the plants present filter the water. It is a safe place and a reproductive area for many species, including birds, such as the Eurasian coot. Throughout the year, their short and powerful cries can be heard here.

The Petit Maclu and the Ilay lake provide 10 municipalities with drinking water, including Frasnois. 67,000 cubic meters are used up every year. The lakes on the Frasnois plateau are natural. The icebergs that covered the Jura 20,000 years ago have “planed” the earth and created the necessary depressions for the lakes to form. The limestone and moraine deposits from the movement of icebergs are watertight and are able to retain the water. To best preserve the quality of the water, a prefectural order bans the use of thermal engines.

Near lakes, there are not only humid areas! Where limestone is predominant, water immediately filters through, making life difficult for plants. The soil is not very deep, and is dry and nutrient-poor... These are dry grasslands. Vegetation is neither very tall nor very dense. The species living in these grasslands adopt special strategies to survive in these difficult living conditions: greasy leaves, parasitism, strong odours, etc. For example, Breckland thyme avoids “sweating” by synthesising essential oils. Its smell is easily recognisable, and this variety of wild thyme is excellent when used to clear airways.

The Jura massif provides a long geological history. The limestone rocks formed during the Mesozoic era, between -170 million years and -90 million years. Much later, the pushing of the Alpes led these rocks to fold, between -11 million years and -3 million years. Lastly, the erosion caused by the icebergs, the freezing, the water and the wind, have progressively shaped the landscape. And Man has made the final contribution through farming and development.

Surrounded by two forest massifs, Sur les Agrailles to the north and Mont des Ifs to the east, Narlay lake resembles a large 40-metre-deep funnel, making it the deepest natural lake in the Jura. Fed by a series of small emergences, its waters disappear into an underground outlet and feed the Chalain lake 7.5 km away as the crow flies.

Centred between the banks of the lake of Ilay is an island: the island of La Motte. Archaeological excavations have revealed that is was home to three successive religious establishments. An initial church was erected around the year 1,000 and seems to have burned down. After being rebuilt, a vestibule was added to it by a monastic congregation that ended up abandoning the place. Of the third establishment, we know only that it was abandoned during the 15th century.  A wooden bridge provided access to the structure from the bank and the marshes that are now present were once orchards and pastures.

The Franche-Comté conservatory for natural areas manages the wetlands on the 4 lakes site in partnership with the owning municipalities and local farmers. This site is fill of species specific to open environments which must be preserved. Once used by farmers, these zones have gradually been abandoned. This is why managers have made maintaining this type of environment a priority by reinstating extensive grazing. Highland Cattle cows are able to move around on waterlogged soil and find the food that they need. The amount of cattle and grazing periods are adapted depending on the species and environments in question. The waters of the Petit Maclu and the Grand Maclu feed the lake of Ilay. Each occupies a shallow basin dug out by the glaciers around 20,000 years ago. These lakes are mainly surrounded by a wide diversity of vegetation, called low-marshes, wet tall-herb and fern fringes or peat bogs. Some reed beds also develop there. Insects flourish here due to the high quality of the environment, in particular dragonflies who vary in colour. The Eurasian coot is the most faithful bird to these lakes. Not very discreet, it is recognisable by its trumpeting cries of warning.

This peculiar peat bog environment can be seen from the path to the Petit Maclu. The few trees and bushes able to grow in these difficult conditions (waterlogged soil, lack of oxygen, etc.) are birches, willows and alder buckthorn. In the spring, the white cotton grass bobbles - a plant typically found in these environments - can be seen above the grass. The lake used to be bigger. Little by little, aquatic plants have grown, and the permanently humid conditions have not allowed dead vegetation to decompose. By building up, all of these plants have formed what is called peat. In this peat bog, the peat isn’t very thick, but in the peat bog between the Grand Maclu lake and the Ilay lake, it has reached over 1.5m.

Whilst the Chamois is capable of travelling across a 1,000-meter incline in a quarter of an hour, most hikers are only able to climb 1,000 meters in 3 hours. Even an experienced athlete would need one hour to climb such an incline. If the Chamois is such a good climber it is because it has an enlarged heart that is capable of pumping blood through its body at an alarming rate, twice as fast as a human heart, and because it has hooves with two nails that can separate for better adherence to the rocks. A partition between its “fingers”, covered with fur, prevents it from delving too deep into the snow, in a similar way to our snowshoes. Meeting this species, like others, is very much a question of luck and a significant amount of patience! But once you glimpse one, do not move and it will allow you to watch it for a good while.
