Who can imagine that in the country of castles, villages and hamlets with white stones, a strange history took place from the end of the 19th century, which is still alive in our memories: that of coal mining, lime and brick making. This beautiful little loop in 8 around the village of Cladech, passes through the villages of Merle, and Malvie. The mining adventure in Périgord is well there. Saint-Cyprien was born around an abbey of regular canons of Saint-Augustin which would have been built on the tomb of a hermit called Cyprian. The barbarian invasions forced the monks to surround themselves with ramparts of which the bell tower-dungeon remains a vestige. The village, located near the Dordogne, did not want to see the bridge that linked it to the other bank of the river disappear when it was closed in 1992. Indeed, this bridge has more than 120 years of good and loyal services to its credit at the place called Garrit, which means Oak in the language of Oc. It was witness of so many stories...

This building was completely rebuilt in 1745 by the Lord of the place, in atonement - it is said - of the burning of the church by its ancestors, during the wars of religion. It was restored in 1806. A wall of the old church, at the foot of the castle, is still visible, with a bay and a blinded door, dating from the 13th century.

Here are the reasons why this Church is remarkable: its stunning setting, elegant architecture and the elevation of its bell tower. Its ogival style is from the 14th century. Its shape is that of a Latin cross of perfect regularity. All the vaults are in stone, with perfect reticulated ribs. There are 7 windows. On the other hand, the building stones are extremely porous which brought a lot of moisture into the building before the problem was dealt with . There are 3 doors and 2 chapels, the one on the left is dedicated to the virgin, the one on the right to St Antoine. The painted wooden altarpiece, was restored in 1999, thanks to a gift from Madame Jacqueline Beytout. It revealed very beautiful polychrome paintings .

The first mention of the parish and the church dates from 1218, in the sack of the diocese of Périgueux. Of Romanesque descent, it underwent, like many others in the 19th century, a deep restoration that completely transformed it. Its very interesting western façade, was nevertheless included in the Additional Inventory of Historical Monuments in 1984.

The building was extensively restored and extended in 1895, and some of its walls date back to the 14th century. Roofing of slate roofing tiles, rectangular bell tower-wall pierced by two semicircular campanile bays. The church seems to have been built on Gallo-Roman substructures.
