Discover one of our country villages at the gates of Caen. This pretty village was founded in the 11th century by the family of the lords of Anisy, one of the oldest in Normandy. You will see the manor house of Anisy (15th century) and its beautiful pond fed by numerous local springs. The Romanesque church, listed as a historical monument since 1927, was built in the 11th century. In the main street, which was preserved from the bombings of June 1944, you can also discover many 18th century stone houses typical of the housing on the Caen plain.

In the Parc Naturel Régional Normandie Maine, country house for a family stay or a business stopover! The gite is fully equipped. You are 13km from the spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne and in the Normandie-Maine Regional Nature Park. You'll love the hiking trails and the nearby Véloscénie cycle route linking Paris to Mont Saint Michel. If you fancy a spot of fishing, there are plenty of opportunities in the village, with lakes and trout in the river.

If you're looking for a wellness break in an unspoilt natural setting, with friends or family, the Moulin de Cordouen, between Mayenne and Orne, offers a quality service with its sauna and Nordic bath on the River Mayenne. The Moulin has been redesigned by an architect to offer spacious accommodation in every room, with bay windows to take advantage of the waterfall and the landscape. Built from the 13th to the 16th centuries, the church offers an interesting insight into the evolution of architectural styles: from Rayonnant and Flamboyant Gothic to Renaissance. Boasting a magnificent 14th century spire of a height of almost 260 feet, the church is currently undergoing restoration. Of particular interest: the choir vault, the Flamboyant Gothic ambulatory chapels, the carved capitals on the 3rd nave pillar, on the north side, presenting four scenes inspired by medieval novels on knighthood and satirical writings. Organ by J.F. Dupont, built in 1997.

Built around 1060 by William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy then King of England, the ducal castle in Caen is now home to the Musée de Normandie (Normandy Museum) and the Musée des Beaux Arts (Museum of Fine Arts).

This museum offers a discovery of the fauna and flora of Normandy. Observation of the mammals that are typical to the bocage environment, city birds and country birds... Slide shows with soundtrack, interactive observation games. The museum gardens offer a familiarisation into our region's wild and cultivated plants: small fruit-bearing shrubs, toxic plants, popular rural plants... A themed exhibition and free presentations are organised every summer.

Founded in 1063 by William the Conqueror, the Benedictine abbey of Saint Etienne (Saint Stephen) in Caen was consecrated in 1077. The 18th century monastic buildings housing the cloister, the wood-panelled rooms hung with paintings, and the Guardroom are today home to the Caen Town Hall. William the Conqueror is laid to rest in the abbey church. Guided tours : - In French, from October 1st to March 31th from monday to friday at 10:30am and 2:30pm. On Sundays (only during school holidays) at 10:30am, 2:30pm and 4pm. - From July 1st to August 31th : in french, every day at 10am, 11am, 12:30pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5:30pm. Built during the 14th and 16th centuries, the church was never completed. Its leaning 2.28 metre-high and 46cm wide tower is a truly characteristic feature and is due to the presence of surrounding marshland.

Founded in 1432, the University of Caen was first set up in rue des Cordeliers, at the bedside of the old Saint-Sauveur church, on the present site of Camille Blaisot Square. It was destroyed by a bombing in July 1944, which caused it to burn down Rebuilt from 1948 onwards under the impetus of Rector Pierre Daure, it was inaugurated in 1957. Today, Campus I is listed as a historical monument. It also has a remarkable artistic heritage with works by Yvonne Guégan, Charles-Emile Pinson, Jacques Pasquier, Raymond Subes .... Louis Leygue's sculpture, the Phoenix, marks the entrance to the campus and symbolizes the rebirth of the institution and, more generally, of the city. He created this work at the request of Henry Bernard. It measures 7.80 m high, 2.80 m wide and 1.70 m deep. Today, the University of Caen welcomes nearly 30,000 students spread across its various campuses, and the city is the seat of the largest student carnival in Europe.
