Discover L'epine, Hautes-Alpes: a natural gem in Provence

Very nice hike between cultivated land, forests and a wild summit. From this belvedere, discover the Blème valley and the highest peaks of the Buëch country. From the parking lot, walk up to the village of l'Epine. At the war memorial, turn left and at the end of the village follow the tarred road towards Les Struis and La Villette. At the crossroads, turn left. 300 m further on, before a bridge, follow a path that goes right to the Struis. Cross the hamlet on your way up and continue on a track on the  opposite side. At the fork, take the right track which leads to a field. Walk along it to the left and then follow  a path that will lead you to the pass, Col des Trousses (1266 m). At the pass, follow the 2nd track on the right up to the pass Col du Pré ("Col de Champlat", 1501 m). From there, a return trip takes you to the top of Bonnet Rouge (1645 m). To do this, leave the track and go straight on to a small pasture. 40 m further, turn right and cross a small wood. A walk on the mountainside goes around this summit to the left and leads you to Champlat. Continue along the ridge to the right and enjoy a beautiful 360 ° view. Return to Col du Pré following the same track back and take to the left  direction of l’Épine. The track narrows and becomes a path when arriving at  a small pass. After a long descent, walk along  a ruined sheepfold and continue straight until a track crosses. Turn right to reach the hamlet Mathieu, and take the road to the left for reaching L'Épine.

Randonnée facile à la découverte de l'Epine, charmant petit village perché, et des essences aux mille et une curiosités. Marnes bleues, rivière pétrifiante avec formation de tuf, application éco-balade. Du parking, monter au village de l'Épine. Au monument aux morts, prendre à droite et traverser le village. Continuer sur la route pour rejoindre la fourche au niveau du cimetière, et emprunter la route de gauche. 100 m après une ferme, bifurquer à droite sur un chemin agricole. Suivre ce chemin, traverser un ruisseau arboré et monter en s'inclinant à gauche jusqu'à un plateau. De jolies marnes bleues sont visibles à droite. A l'intersection (poteau "La Viste"), continuer tout droit et descendre vers le ravin de Rioupape via un sentier. En bas prendre à gauche, passer à côté d'un mirador, longer un champ et traverser un ruisseau pétrifiant avec formation de tufs (concrétions calcaires). Rejoindre une piste en contre-haut et tourner à gauche sur celle-ci. Remonter le ravin sur 1,1 km en cheminant sur cette piste, puis bifurquer à gauche sur un sentier étroit dans le torrent de Rioupape (souvent à sec).  À l'intersection (poteau "Fontaine du Saule"), prendre un sentier en balcon sur votre gauche. Lorsque le paysage s'ouvre (rester attentif), l'itinéraire fait redescendre légèrement à gauche (2 clôtures à enjamber) pour atteindre un champ. Le longer et rejoindre une piste ravinée qui mène à l'embranchement du début ("La Viste"). Pour le retour, prendre le même itinéraire qu'à l'aller, direction "L'Epine".

Parcours très facile et ombragé. Ce circuit propose un petit tour dans le Grand Bois sur des chemins arides aux abords de champs de lavande et à l'écoute des animaux de ce petit coin de paradis entre pinèdes et forêts de chênes pubescents Emprunter la piste en direction du "Grand Bois" entre des champs de lavande. Prendre la piste tout droit (la piste à gauche est votre chemin du retour). Prendre à gauche pour entrer dans le Grand Bois. A l'altitude 1111 m (Font Morelle), arriver sur une piste, l'emprunter à gauche dans une pinède (plantation de pins noirs). Tourner à gauche à l'intersection (1140 m). Le sentier s'oriente vers l'est, en bordure d'anciens champs. Toujours en sous-bois de pins, aller plein nord, par le sentier qui amorce la descente, vers le Serre Larobe. La piste forestière débouche sur la piste de départ. Prendre à droite le long du champ de lavande pour revenir au point de départ.

A very easy and shady route. This short circuit in the Grand Bois with its arid paths and its be like lavender fields allows you to listen to animals in this little paradise made of pine trees wood and downy oaks. From Serre-Larobe (1014 meters), take the track heading to the “Grand Bois” between lavender fields. At the junction (1041 meters), go on the track straight forward (the left path is the return track.) A second junction allows you to enter the Grand Bois. Turn left (1073 meters). Once Font Morelle reached by a track, take on your left the pine trees wood (black pines plantation.) Turn left at the junction (1140 meters). The path faces east on the edge of former fields. Still in an undergrowth pine trees, go to the north by the slope path leading to the Serre-Larobe. The forest path heads on the departure track. Turn right alongside the lavender field to go back to the departure point.

Ce circuit fait le tour de la crête des aiguilles petit sommet aux portes de la vallée de l’oule. Cette vallée en vaut le détour pour les amoureux de calme et de nature.  Le départ se fait au lac de Font Froide. Descendre la route jusqu’à une patte d’oie et prendre la petite route sur la droite.  Après 500 m bifurquer sur le sentier à droite. Continuer sur celui-ci jusqu’à revenir sur la piste au niveau d’un petit pont en pierre. Après avoir parcouru 400 m sur la piste tourner à droite pour prendre le sentier. Ce sentier alterne entre passage sous-bois et bordure de champs. Une fois arrivé au bout du sentier en face d’un cours d’eau, prendre immédiatement le nouveau sentier à droite et continuer sur celui-ci  pour rejoindre une piste. Sur la piste après 150 m bifurquer à nouveau sur un sentier à droite et poursuivre sur ce dernier jusqu’au bout. Au bout du sentier, au niveau de la piste, tourner à droite puis après le premier virage tourner une nouvelle fois à droite sur le sentier qui redescend. Le suivre pour revenir à la patte d’oie du point n°1 pour pouvoir ensuite retourner au lac de Font froide.

This hike is long but easy. It starts at a shaded balcony and continues on a grassy ridge and it takes you to the top of the Valdrôme resort. The panorama over the whole  Southern Alps is magnificent. Leave the shelter of the Col d'Arron and go towards the post "Col d'Arron - 1450 m". Facing the Duffre mountain, take the left track, direction "Col des Praux". It bends to the right, and meets another path. At the crossroads, continue on the opposite path .  Further on it cuts across a track and follows the mountainside above the Oule valley. Meet the main track (post "Sous le Col des Praux" - 1250 m). Go down to the right and follow it for about 2 km towards the hut "Cabane de Pré Pourri". At the "Les Buisses" post, go up to the right above the track. Continue to the left and follow the markings to reach the hut "cabane de Pré Pourri" . At the intersection, just before the hut, follow the path on the right. Flat at the beginning, it then climbs to the ridge of the Sarcéna. Just before arriving to the ridge, leave this path and turn left onto a well-marked path. Continue on the ridge up to the cross then reach the top of the bare summit of the Duffre (1757 m). Continue on the ridge and reach the Pyramid (1734 m) (top of a ski lift) and walk down to the Pas de la Lauze (1553 m). Go down the path to the right, direction "Col d'Arron". When you get to the bottom of the track, go up to the right for reaching your starting point, at the Col d'Arron.

With its typical steep rock overlooking the Oule valley, Maraysse’s hike is short but very technical. Only well trained hikers  may  take this trail which ,on the ridges, requires agility and ease in a vertical environment. At the sign "Les Garenses" take the left path which cuts a winding track, to reach the Col du Casset (1242 m). At the pass (picnic table), follow the Maraysse ridge, to the right, on a narrow and technical path. Halfway on the ridge, leave the ridge and take a cross path along  the south side: be cautious and stay focused. You’ll then reach the top of Maraysse (1567 m) with its cross. Take, on the southwest side, a very steep passage (remain attentive). At the foot of this corridor, the well-marked path continues to the west under the cliff. The path joins a grassy ledge and the ridge (1504 m). The trail goes down quickly to the right through a clearing, then it enters the beech grove (check and spot well  the  path that runs down between the trees and is difficult to see). Steep at first , the trail becomes easier  up to the pine forest (look out for the markings). At an intersection (1210 m), you’ll meet a well-marked path that you’ll follow to the right until you reach a forest track (at a bend). Follow it, on the left, downhill, to go back to your starting point.

Itinéraire sans difficulté technique, entièrement sur piste forestière pour découvrir la sauvage vallée de l'Oule. Ce circuit passe au Col des Praux et tout près de nos voisins Drômois. Prendre la D 26 à la descente, direction Bruis. Abandonner le circuit N°1 (le ruisseau des Combes) en tournant à droite sur la piste de l'Infernet. Pas moins de 4 itinéraires vélo sont en communs dans cette forêt domaniale de l'Oule jusqu'au carrefour des Plaines. Prendre à droite. Rester avec les vététistes du circuit n°7. En prenant progressivement de la hauteur, le panorama s'élargit vers le géant de Provence, à savoir le Mont Ventoux. Au croisement (1255 m), rejoindre le col des Praux (ou bien pour éviter de faire 500 m de plus pour aller au col des Praux, prendre la piste qui descend à droite. Attention aux rigoles d'écoulement d'eau et aux randonneurs pédestres du GR 91).Descendre à droite par le sentier. Atteindre une route, tourner à droite et longer l'Oule jusqu'à Montmorin.

Un circuit sportif et engagée pour découvrir le calme de la vallée de l’Oule et profiter d’un panorama sur les montagnes avoisinantes. Au départ de Montmorin, remonter la route sur 4 km jusqu’à la maison forestière de la forêt domaniale du Val d’Oule. Emprunter la piste forestière roulante pour remonter 600 m de dénivelé sur 6.5 km, jusqu’aux plaines du Duffre. Prendre à gauche pour entreprendre la descente. Le début se fait sur un sentier en balcon ; la vue dégagée permet d’observer la vallée de l’Oule, la montagne de Maraysse et par temps clair d’apercevoir le Mont Ventoux. Attention tout de même à quelques portions techniques par temps humide. Passage ensuite en sous-bois sur un single track roulant et très joueur sans difficulté. Descendre désormais une ancienne piste enherbée sous le col des pros et rester attentif aux lacets peu visibles. Poursuivre sur un sentier technique. Attention, une portion d’environ 50 m nécessite de descendre du vélo pour ne pas chuter (panneau de danger présent sur place). La partie haute de la sente est plutôt roulante et fluide puis plus cassante et avec des épingles de niveau moyen sur la deuxième partie. Ce sentier ramène auprès de la maison forestière. Rejoindre le point de départ par la même route.

Ce circuit roulant de 13 km dans la Vallée de l’Oule peut constituer une première étape pour progresser vers les parcours rouges. Il comporte de beaux passages en sous-bois, aux abords de ruines et sur les crêtes qui bordent la Montagne de Maraysse. Pour commencer, l’itinéraire se compose de 10 km de piste forestière. Sans difficulté à la montée, cette première portion est roulante et commune avec les Chemins du Soleil. Un panneau explique l’histoire de l’exploitation forestière et agricole de la vallée de l’Oule. Peu après le lieu-dit « les Garenses » (1170 m), possibilité de continuer la piste forestière (au lieu de prendre le sentier) sur 1 km environ jusqu’à atteindre la crête de Maraysse. Il y a une table de pique-nique et un panorama de la crête. Les 3 derniers kilomètres, sur sentier, sont plus techniques avec des descentes raides, ravines et ornières. Cette portion est idéale pour se faire plaisir avec une première approche sur terrain technique. On finit la randonnée sur une piste forestière agréable et bien indiquée avant de se retrouver sur la route menant au cœur du village de Montmorin.

Campsite under the trees located at the heart of the medieval village of Châtillon-en-Diois, near the river, with shade and a family atmosphere, at the foot of the Hauts Plateaux du Vercors and close to the Clairette and local wines domains. Equipment at the campsite include a snack, a swimming pool with 3 pools and a lane dedicated to swimmers, a boules playing field and multi-sports and tennis court. The campsite offers pitches for tents, caravans, mobil homes and camper vans as well as alternative accommodation: the comfortable and fully-equipped tents Coco Sweets. Walks, hikes and mountain bike trails accessible nearby, some starting from the campsite.

At the south of l’Epine commune, Serre-Larobe pass located at 1014 meters high is the only crossing point between l’Epine and Montjay village.

Located at an altitude of 1266 m, the pass des Trousses is a crossroad  between 3 passes: the Col des Tourettes, the Col d'Arron and the Bonnet Rouge.

Highest point of the cliff - 1645 meters high - the Bonnet Rouge is one of the main ridge’s summits with the Serre de la Bouisse liking Serre to l’Epine. The quite steep path allowing you to get there is worth the effort because the view is very splendid. From up there, a 360° panoramic view opens on the Dévoluy, the Écrins, the Préalpes hilly area, Ubaye valley and Ventoux Mount.

Culminating at 1757 m, the ascent of the  Duffre requires great efforts. This is worth it, because from up there, the view  on all the surrounding heights is breathtaking (Le Bonnet Rouge, Le Risou, Maraysse, Le Rocher de Beaumont, etc.). Next to it, the Pyramid (1734 m) offers an equally impressive view. From these points, you can admire the valleys of the Oule, Rosanais, Serrois and Aiguebelle.

Located on the Maraysse crest hike, a small arch is located below the path. This geological formation both entertains and questions, but above all impresses with its singularity.

The Montagne de Maraysse, located in the Oule valley, seems inaccessible at first glance. However, a technical path allows one to get there and thus offers a splendid panorama on the valleys of Oule and Rosans. Further, you can admire the mountains of Lure, The Mont Ventoux as well as the Dévoluy massif.

Before reaching the summit of Duffre, the trail follows  the ridges of the Sarcéna and Aup mountains. During this crossing, many viewpoints open onto the Southern Alps. It is the ideal place to picnic and enjoy the beauty of the landscapes.

The sundial can be admired on a façade of one of the homes on the main street, dating from 1777.

The  Saumane Pass (1029 m) allows you to reach Serres via the Chapelle de Saumane or the ridge Crête de Fontarache. It also allows access to the Rocher de Jardanne and to reach the village of Sigottier. This grassy path, shaded by trees  offers an ideal venue for a break or a picnic in calm weather.

The Saumane Chapel or Notre-Dame des Anges, existed already in the Middle Ages. It was rebuilt several times, in 1602 after the wars of religion but also in 1741. Around 1500, it seems to be the place of a hermitage where several priests resided and would have served as a clandestine place of worship for Protestants, very numerous in Serres, during the period of the revocation (1685-1787). It was also maintained by a brotherhood of penitents and was a place of processions.

Located in the heart of the valley of Oule, between Provence and the alpine mountain range, on the road of the G.R. footpath 91, the Rabasse overlooks the village of Montmorin and the valley of Oule. It is located next to a pine tree hill, surrounded by orchards and meadows.

Indoors in the vaulted dining room or on the terrace, we offer simple family cuisine mixing dishes of the terroir cooked with local aromatic herbs and spices from further afield. Our menu varies following the seasons and our fancies but we favour organic and/or local produce. Everything on the menu is home-made with fresh quality products. Lunch time and afternoon : Savory and sweet snacks, ice-creams, drinks... In the evening we serve the Auberge set menu at 7.30 pm with the gîte’s guests for a friendly diner. Remember to book.

La Boule d'Or restaurant welcomes you at the foot of the medieval village of Rosans, on the Nyons-Serres road. Meals are served either in a beautiful vaulted dining room or on the terrace.

On Rosans' village place, Noëlle & Laurent are happy to welcome you in their restaurant Ô Fourchat. You can drink, have breakfast, have dinner inside or outside on the shady terrace with a view on the Fourchat summit.

Set on the outdoor terrace with views of the Baronnies Provençales, or in the privacy of the vaulted room, you will enjoy a cuisine based on local products at the campsite restaurant (in the evening on reservation). Fresh pizzas every day in July-August, to takeaway or eat on site. On reservation the day before for other periods. Do not hesitate to contact us for group meals, parties or birthdays. Located off the village, Les Genêts overlooks the Serres-Nyons road. The campsite des Rosières offers a snackbar-pizzeria on a terrace in the shade in front of the swimming pool.

Located in one of the striking landscapes of the Drôme Provençale region, at the heart of a medieval village in the Baronnies region, the "Auberge de la Clavelière" welcomes you in a solid 200 years old stone house. For 40 years, our family has cultivated a soothing atmosphere in an exceptional setting where you can breathe in the lavender and happiness that surround our Auberge.

Recently opened bar/restaurant offering traditional and family cuisine. As the last shop in the village, I'd like to make it a convivial place by organizing a variety of events throughout the year.

Le Moulin Campsite welcomes you at the heart of nature, close to the source of the river Drôme. There are several sanitary blocks and showers as well as a sheltered communal open space with tables and a fridge. The campsite has a group shelter where you can meet or take shelter in bad weather. Situated at the foot of the village built on a rocky outcrop, Camping du Moulin is close to all village activities: hiking, themed hikes, mountain bike trails, archery, tennis, climbing, children's games. You choose where you pitch.

Valdrôme in Haut-Diois is surrounded by mountains, some with lavender fields. It is a charming hilltop village at 800 m of altitude on a rocky outcrop offering one of the clearest starry sky in France. Hikers, families, groups of friends, sports clubs…everyone is welcome for a night or a longer stay at Auberge de Valdrôme. We offer 6 bedrooms accommodating 2 to 4 guests in single and/or double beds. Each bedroom is en-suite with a shower and a washbasin. There are two shared toilets on the landing.

At the heart of a typical Haut Diois village, between mountains and lavender fields, we offer individual bedrooms and dorms on a half-board basis. Mathilde and Jacky warmly welcome you with local homemade cooking. Booking is required. For a night, a longer stay or to stop for a tasty snack, Valdrôme Inn offers a variety of services: bedrooms and dorms accommodating 25 in total, a restaurant-bar and a small grocery store. Located at the crossroad between Vercors and the Baronnies regions there is a wide range of activities available on site: walks in nature, mountain bike rides, climbing and family-friendly activities…. Indeed, the village of Valdrôme is on the cross-Vercors walking trail GR91 'Traversées du Vercors' and 'les Chemins du Soleil' mountain bike trail. Its Saracen tower offers a remarkable point of view on the Rosanais. This middle mountain territory offers you various possibilities. Many walks, hikes, on foot or by bike, but also discovery of the surroundings, fauna and flora. You will also be able to refresh yourself with the water of Pigerolles, at the entrance of our village, without forgetting our market of the soil of Sunday morning. At the gateway to the Drôme, close to the medieval village, this campsite is the starting point for hiking, cycling and mountain biking tours. The reward? A dip in the Pigerolles lake or an aperitif on the fountain square.
