The GR® 654 crosses France starting in Vézelay, in Burgundy. It crosses the Lot-et-Garonne from north to south for nearly 150 km, from the plum trees of the Haut-Agenais to the sandy soils of the Landes de Gascogne, passing through the Lot and Garonne valleys.

From the bastide this walk accompanies the pilgrims, coming from Vézelay and heading towards St-Jacques de Compostelle. To return to Castillones you will pass through the small valley of the Douyne.

Panoramas, heritage and orchards are the key words on this walk. Departing from the 13th century bastide village of Castillonnès, you will have beautiful views on the countryside, where plum orchards, cereal fields, groves and large meadows harmonize. Castles, churches, mills, dovecotes and stacked houses will surprise you. At the local producers, you can taste foie gras, duck breast, jams, brandies and prunes from Agen, of which you will also discover the recipes.

In Pinseguerre, your hike can be accompanied by harnessed donkeys, crossing paths and small roads, through the plum orchards.

Along this route you will see dove cots and the specific houses from the Dropt region, made of alternating wood and stone. The few level differences make the walk accessible to everyone.

This hike, which has many parts over roads, is more suitable for mountain bikers. It is the link between the hike in the area of Castillonnès and that of Villeréal. Its interest lies in the diversity of the landscape, from the flat areas near the river Dropt, at the start, to the wooded limestone hills in the south, near the towns of Bournel and Montaut.

This long hike, with a lot of tracks on the road, will be made accesible for mountain bikers. It is a interesting walk/bike ride because of the diversity of heritage: the typical half-timbered houses of the valley of the Dropt, made of stone and stacked wood.

At the start of this hike you will discover large cereal plots. The part in the department the Dordogne leads you into a very dense wood ; this is then followed by a path on the shores of the lake Nette. The walk continues on a path marking the territorial limit between the Dordogne and the Lot-et-Garonne.

Nice bucolic walk where you will skirt the water of the net which shelters many fish species. You will see all along the route, vineyard huts, dovecotes, an old mill and a menhir. Passing through a hamlet of character in a place called pecdorat.

Built in the 13th century, the church Saint-Pierre has been altered at different times. The bell tower, 27 meters high, dates from the beginning of the 20th century. Sitting on top of the Haut-Agenais hills, the fortified town of Castillonès was established in 1259 by Alphone de Poitiers, who shared the ruling of the bastide by pariage with Cadouin Abbey. The town follows the shape of the rocky spur on which it is built, and backs onto the former château-fort. The town’s buildings are remarkably homogeneous and include numerous places of interest, such as the “Du Perrier” château, the covered walkways between houses, the 18th century town houses, a church with a Baroque altar and a 20th century covered market with a troubadour-style wall-mounted turret.

Former abbey house of the monks of Cadouin, the town hall is located in the former tithe barn, overlooking a beautiful Renaissance courtyard of honour and the Carbonnier room, former stables, now an exhibition hall.

Porte Guirlity and Porte des Valets are secondary walled structures built at the same time as the ramparts to protect the Bastide.
