Departing from Place de la Mairie, a 6km hike to the south of the commune.

This trail was created in collaboration with the Saint-Pierre-de-Côle school. Au Fil du Temps?s heritage coordinators organized 4 thematic sessions for the school?s pupils, as well as writing for the videos. On each station, you'll discover a video made with a group of students. After several field trips, they produced the questions themselves and interviewed local specialists.

Starting from the town hall square, a 9.4 km hike, along the Côle river, where you will admire a beautiful needle arch with a resurgence of the river. You will then pass under the ruins of the castle of Bruzac, before going up in the forest. On the way back, you will pass near the castle (private property but can be visited by appointment: 06 11 40 55 37).

In the same walk, Villars offers you the passing of time: from its cave "with the blue horse" splendidly highlighted, to the moving appearance of the castle of Puyguilhem, passing by the mysterious Cistercian abbey of Boschaud, you will go through the paths between forests and hillsides, to the shaded resting places where your mounts will relax during your visits.

Leave for 6 days and 150 km of horseback riding and discover the heritage of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin. This 4th stage leaves from St jean de côle towards Brantôme . On your way you will be able to visit the Villars cave and admire its paleolithic paintings, in particular "the little blue horse", the emblem of the cave. After the cave and the village of lavergne, you will see the Castle of Puyguilhem. This historic monument of the first renaissance period is worthy of the most beautiful residences of the Loire Valley and deserves a small detour. Then you can go and discover the Cistercian abbey of Boschaud. Founded in the 12th century and partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the abbey combines the great Cistercian principles with a typical Périgord style. Rediscovered in the 19th century, the remains of the buildings are imbued with a very strong spirituality

Leave for 6 days and 150 km of horseback riding and discover the heritage of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin. This 5th stage will lead you from Brantôme to Milhac de Nontron (La Glaudie). In Brantôme, the Venice of Perigord, visit the town and admire the 1200 year old abbey. Then head to Champagnac de Bélair where you will notice the Château de la Borie dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. You will be able to make the horses drink at the fountain under the Vaugoubert cave, then you will notice the Château de Vaugoubert listed as a historical monument since 1948. Located on the right bank of the Dronne, it "governs the valley".

Puyguilhem Château, built in the 16th century for Mondot de la Marthonie, displays it elegant, Renaissance style silhouette against the Villars woods, near Brantôme in the middle of Périgord Vert. Former chapel of a Benedictine priory dating from the 12th century, the parish church of La Chapelle-Faucher was in pure Romanesque style with cupola and numbered three bays. Very damaged by the English in the 14th century, it lost one bay during its restoration. The portal was moved to the south side of the second bay along with what remained of the sculptures of the old door. The apse has the shape of a semi dome, the crossing is still surmounted by a cupola on pendentives. A Gothic style lateral chapel, added on the south side, is owned by the landlord. The inside of the church is ornamented with mural paintings protected by a plaster coating.

Built on top of a promontory, the church of Petit Jumilhac is one of the rare templar churches in the Périgord (four are inventoried by the Order of Malta). The Romanesque style chapel has a circular apse whose outer modillions present interesting heads of human figures. Its small retable evokes the legend of a knight.

The Causses de Cesserou farm offers products from its AB-certified free-range pigs. Louis and Maël also raise laying hens and Landes ewes! And they grow vegetables too!

The Romanesque church Saint-Etienne was built at the end of the 12th century and underwent modifications over the centuries. The church was listed as a historical monument in 1948. It has an important porch bell tower, trompe l’œil murals and a statue of the Virgin with a beautiful smile. Frescoes were discovered and restored recently: they are to the left of the altar.

The church dedicated to St. Christopher is originally Romanesque in style, but was rebuilt in the 16th century by Gaston de La Marthonie along with the church of Villars. It is then not surprising if the two churches present similarities, especially the flying buttresses pierced with passageways. The western front is ornamented with a beautiful stone rose and the southern entrance door shows the elegance of the Renaissance. Inside, the church has kept its beautiful 17th century retable.

We have been working the family farm since 1910. We retail garden vegetables picked at maturity (tomatoes, salads, courgettes, aubergines, peppers, melons, potatoes...) as well as our canned fattened ducks. We welcome you every day of the year in our shop (closed on Sunday afternoon).
