Its Gallo-Roman origin is attested by the discovery of ruins. The name of Saint-Martin used around the 9th century attests to the foundation of the village. The cartulary of the Sauve-Majeure mentions the creation of a Sauveté with a priory governed by the monks of the Abbey but it also belongs to the lordship of Benauges. Today, the commune lives essentially from tourism and agriculture, especially viticulture.

Originally endowed with a single nave without vaulting, a square barrel vaulted choir and a semicircular apse vaulted in the cul-de-four, this church has a neo-gothic bell tower rebuilt in 1875 on the orders of Cardinal Donnet. In the 16th century, a aisle, composed of two bays with ribbed vaults, was added to the south of the building. The bayed Romanesque portal is decorated with a representation of Saint Michael and the dragon, but also with animal scenes and scenes of fighting on the capitals. Above it are nine modillions.

Composed of a nave with three bays, a transept and a five-sided apse, this church is vaulted with ribbed vaults. The 16th century octagonal bell tower, flanked by buttresses, is pierced with loopholes on the five free sides. The splayed portal has no tympanums, but four archivolts resting on small columns. The capitals of the latter are decorated with two superimposed rows of foliage. The fourth archivolt, included in the wall, rests on imposts with human figures. The primitive church of the parish was in the village of Pombrède.

The site extends over a former open-cast quarry. This green setting, made up of lakes and woodland, demonstrates nature's formidable ability to regenerate itself and its incredible power to reclaim vegetation. It offers a wide variety of habitats that encourage biodiversity. Access via the quarry parking lot off the RD 671.

Family-owned since 1900. Most of the vineyards are located on the clay-limestone slopes at the gateway to Sauveterre de Guyenne, and currently cover 42 hectares. The blend of Merlot and Cabernet (franc and sauvignon) grapes produces a well-balanced Bordeaux red, full of warmth and elegance, that will delight your taste buds.

This windmill, erected in 1601, was restored in 1975 and transformed into a mill-museum exhibiting craftsmen’s and winegrowers’ tools representative of our age-old rural occupations. Superb views.

Castelviel is located on the watershed divide of the Garonne and Dordogne river basins, the highest point of the Entre-deux-Mers. Prehistory, the Gallo-Roman period and then the Middle Ages with the construction of the first castle (10th century) have punctuated its development. The Anglo-Gascon wars and then the Fronde left their marks. Today, its elevated position means that it houses a radio beacon for guiding and approaching aircraft on Mérignac but also a radio relay for all the fire stations in the south Gironde.

This Romanesque church was rebuilt in 1867. Inside, a painting of the Italian school, dated 1610, represents Saint Thomas. A baroque altar from 1853, the work of a Bordeaux artist, is also housed here. At the south portal, a magnificent carved ensemble of Saintongeaise origin dates from the end of the 12th century. The central door includes five vaults representing a zodiac and the works of the months, as well as the fight of vices and virtues, hunting and tug-of-war scenes.

Only 700 meters from the Lapébie greenway, in the heart of the village of Frontenac, the bar-restaurant l'Archange welcomes you from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and offers you traditional food with dishes such as: entrecote, sweetbreads, duck breast and fries, salads... This traditional restaurant is ideally located on the square of the 13th-century bastide. The chefs offer a varied cuisine, using local, seasonal produce. You can choose to dine indoors or on the terrace under the arcades. Every Friday evening, a theme evening is organized.
