This walk and discovery trail, in the communes of Vernoux-sur-Boutonne and Périgné, offers a wealth of varied landscapes and built heritage: the Vernoux-sur-Boutonne hydraulic ram, the remarkable Foucambert washhouse, the "La Crézolle" castle, the Vilaine stone bridge and the old Gènebrie mill. Come and relax on a walk that combines heritage discoveries and encounters with nature in the Belle valley, between low drystone walls and crystal-clear washhouses. From the Belle valley to the plains, this cyclo tour of the Périgné commune offers a wealth of varied landscapes and built heritage: the castles of "La Crézolle" and "Le Vau", the Périgné church. Parking lot and departure point in front of Périgné church. Initiated in the 2000s, the walks and discoveries are now managed by the Mellois en Poitou Community of Communes, in collaboration with the local communes. To date, there are 50 of these itineraries, ranging from 1 to 16 km, enabling families, cyclists and experienced walkers to explore the region and discover its many facets (landscapes, small-scale heritage, etc.).

Thanks to archaeological excavations, we find traces of occupation of the Rochénard site since the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The 1978-79 excavations revealed a cemetery with burnt human and animal bones, fragments of ceramics and glass, as well as coins dating from the Roman period. You can find them at the Pierre-Henri Mitard cultural space in Usseau. Since 1287, the name of the commune has been in constant evolution but the toponymy is quite similar. The culture of the vine is the main activity of the commune in the XIXth century but the phylloxera puts an end to it. The inhabitants turned to livestock and cereal farming. In 1948, the commune was described as a "pilot" because it was a model for rural communes: electricity, running water, baths and showers, a rural home... -> Unmarked route

Its name would be an alteration of forum (place of public meetings). In 1981, at Champ-Royal, excavations revealed the remains of an ancient vicus (small town) extending over three hectares with villas, baths, porticoes and forum. Mentioned for the first time in 1100, Fors is protected by its fortress, an advanced citadel of the castle of Niort erected by the Count of Poitou to delay the progression of attackers coming from the south. In 1494, the lord was Guy Poussard, a king's advisor, whose daughter Anne became the first mistress of the Count of Angouleme, the future Francis I, who would have built a manor house on the site of the castle. Part of the towers were used to build a town house in the 19th century. Today, only the ruins of the castle remain. -> Unmarked itinerary.

This cycle tour takes in the former communes of Montigné, Verrines-sous-Celles and Sainte-Blandine, and takes in places of interest such as the Fontaine du Marais (Croué washhouse), the church and priory in Verrines, rich in history. Parking and departure in the village of Montigné, opposite the school. Our "MIRA" hut is perched and well hidden in an exceptional holm oak tree at least three hundred years old at the bottom of a charming little wood. It is hardly noticeable as it communicates so much with the tree that welcomes it. On the first level, a 20m2 room with a 15m2 terrace with a lounge and coffee table. Above, a small mezzanine extended by a balcony hidden in the ridge branches aspires to reverie accompanied by the whispering of leaves and the singing of birds .. At the foot of the hut, a fully equipped kitchen shed for preparing meals. A shower shed with separate private toilets. A sheltered space under the hut. The hut is equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

Our LOV'NID MIRA is a small one for lovers, perched 8 meters above the ground, in a small wood adjoining an orchard, near the river. It is a small spherical-shaped hut, a cosy little nest, offering a view of the sky thanks to a porthole placed above a vast circular bed. It is insulated with sheep's wool and covered with larch shingles. A wonderful place where you will share unforgettable moments as a lover or a family.. Access is via a large staircase with a douglas fir landing leading to a terrace surrounding the hut. A caravan is located at the foot of the hut with a table and benches convertible into a double bed. Both cabins are equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

If you love nature, hiking and cycling, this is the ideal place to come and recharge your batteries with family or friends. This spacious, detached house has a 400m² enclosed garden. The gîte is 800m from the Chizé Zoodyssée and 30 min from the Marais Poitevin.

The village appears situated on a height with its bell tower emerging from a bouquet of greenery. The village, watered by the Mignon, is quoted for the first time in 1183. First in the hands of Aliénor d'Aquitaine, the seigneury became in 1346 the domain of the Comte d'Eu and Guines, connetable of France. Decapitated in 1350, her property was confiscated for the benefit of the Crown and later attributed to Marguerite de Valois, daughter of Charles VI. Then Charles VII gave it to Christin of Chambers, captain of his Scottish guard. In the middle of the 18th century, the parish was partly covered with communal wood. Sheep and a few oxen were raised there, and the vines were cultivated there until the phylloxera invasion in 1880. After the disappearance of Prissé-le-Grand, Belleville inherited the hamlet of Ayguis in 1888. The Grand Bousseau in Prissé-la-Charrière (chief town of the new commune of the Plaine d'Argenson), located in the locality of La Charrière, the Grand Bousseau forest, Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS), is a relic of the forest massif of Argenson where beech wood is produced.

Located on the highest point of the commune (90 m. high) and on the edge of the forest of Chizé, it is the only working windmill-tower in the south-deux-sévrien. This old banal mill, depending on the seigneury of Raimbault until the Revolution, was registered in 1975 in the inventory of sites and its safeguarding association received the prize "Chef-d'œuvre en péril" for having proceeded to its restoration. Today, the site is revived during events and is also rented for festivities.
