The Eschviller mill trail takes you on a tour of a well-preserved landscape along a beautiful, bucolic valley. After crossing the small Schwalb river, which once powered 26 mills, you'll reach Ormersviller via a path through the fields, as far as the magnificent Saint-Joseph chapel. Don't leave the Schwalb valley without visiting the Eschviller mill and its three exhibitions. At the grain mill, you can watch flour being made by a paddle wheel that turns as it did in the old days, turning the gears and the stone millstone. The sawmill, meanwhile, explains how planks are made, again using water power. The apiary will introduce you to the fascinating world of bees and the beekeeper job. Along the way, you'll also see the "Friedenskreuz" translated to the peace cross 300 m from the german border, the orientation table and the magnificent view from the Saint-Joseph chapel. In the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park, the Moulins circuit is suitable for cyclists used to cycling on small roads. This loop has the particularity of taking the cyclist to discover landscapes without borders in France and Germany. The mills to visit or contemplate are the highlight of this pleasant ride.

On this historical trail, you will discover the entire external defences of the Simserhof, one of the most important structures of the Maginot Line. The 8 fighting blocks, the gun turrets, the anti-tank rails and the 'pig tails' have remained unchanged since the end of the war. The fighting blocks around the Simserhof were intended to ensure the defence of the border. They all have cannons and machine guns. Positions 4 and 5 on this trail are particularly impressive. Along the path you will find explanatory panels about the Maginot Line. Picnic tables are set up near the Simserhof for a pleasant break. In season, the site is open to visitors and includes a cafeteria and a boutique. The village of Walschbronn and the three valleys leading to it are dominated by the ruins of the Weckersburg castle. Built around 1490 by the Count of Deux-Ponts Bitche to protect the curists and serve as a hunting castle, it was destroyed by fire a century later. From Walschbronn, the walker reaches Dorst, a small hamlet where one can discover a picturesque chapel and a remarkable Mennonite cemetery. Thanks to its thermal waters, Walschbronn was famous from Roman times until the middle of the 18th century.

This pleasant path starting at the Haspelschiedt pond will take you on a journey to discover some remarkable trees in the Pays de Bitche Discover the Haspelschiedt pond, the basilica-style Saint-Nicolas church, the small Saint-Wendelin chapel and its picnic table. Along the way, you will encounter some remarkable trees such as the Kayser oak. This pedunculate oak, which is nearly 350 years old, has a circumference of 4.35 m. Emperor Wilhelm II is said to have visited this spot in 1903, from where he could see a large military training ground. Further along, on the Gruenholz path, you will walk along an avenue of Douglas firs, some of the tallest in France. Important: part of the Polisher Rock collapsed at the end of 2019. It is no longer accessible during the walk.

This wonderful hiking trail is a "must" of Bitcherland (Pays de Bitche)! After walking by the Hasselfurther pond and the Entenbaechel pond, a small winding path will lead you to the Hochkopf; it is considered the highest point of Bitche (429 metres). - The Hasselfurther pond is located near Bitche and is one of the most beautiful local water areas. The pond is suitable for sports and outdoor activities and attracts many nature lovers who come to relax there all year round. This trail follows an ancient Roman road all the way to the other side of the border, in Germany, along the picturesque path that runs alongside the majestic Altschlossfelsen rock, which can be translated to "old castle rock" because a small castle once existed there. It is also known with the nickname "The Colorado Rock". Starting from the 18th-century church in Roppeviller, with its Romanesque bell tower, the route joins the Helmut Kohl path. Less than a kilometre further on rises the Altschlossfelsen rock. . This rock is one of the largest in the Palatinate Massif. It stretches for almost 1.5 km and is up to 20 metres high in places. The countless caves, overhangs and other geological curiosities of the Altschlossfelsen are sure to surprise you! The Diana Rock and the three figures carved into the rock represent Diana the Goddess of the Hunt, Mars the God of War and Sylvanus the God of the Forest (or Hercules). On site, you will find the trail under the following name: SUR LES RIVES DE L'HISTOIRE This hiking trail is dotted with historical landmarks: the unmissable Bliesbruck-Reinheim European Archaeological Park highlights the Celtic and Gallo-Roman periods; the ruins of Frauenberg Castle remind the Middle Ages; from Bliesbruck to Blies-Ebersing. Here, you will have the opportunity to ride along a cycle path laid out on the route of an old railway line where steam trains used to run through the valley. Created in 1879 under the German annexation (1870-1918), it linked Sarreguemines to Hombourg (Germany). In 1991, the closure of the last service (Reinheim-Hombourg) put an end to the existence of this line. The "On the Banks of History" trail (Sur les Rives de l’Histoire) follows the banks of the River Blies. The river forms a natural border between France and Germany. As you make your way along the route and visit the historic sites in the Blies valley, you will be taking a pleasant journey back in time in an area that has been preserved in its natural state. - Variant: the circuit can be extended by "The Wild Boar Forest" (Les bois du sanglier) - 5.5 km and “Following the Path of the Counts" circuits (Sur les Pas des Comtes) - 5 km. - Connections: two connections are available. The first leads to "The Grosswald" (Le Grosswald) - 6 km and "The Villa" - 3.7 km circuits within the Grosswald forest. The second, towards Woelfling-lès-Sarreguemines, leads to "The former Bombelles road" circuit (La Chaussée de Bombelles) - 11.4 km. - Trail-Marking: yellow disc - Geographical area: The Blies Valley, confluences of water and history - Starting point: Bliesbruck > European Archaeological Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim

This beautiful trail glides you through forest paths that will take you from springs to caves, showing some Gallo-Roman ruins along the way. The Cascade of the Undines is an idyllic natural site. The water from the stream at the top of the cliff flows down between boulders, forming a succession of small cascades. The sight is particularly impressive during the winter period, when the waterfalls turn into a curtain of ice. You will find other interesting sights on your way : - the grottos and sculptures - Small spring and sandstone wash houses along the way to cool off - The huge picnic table at the Bildmuehle - The little house of the Vosges Club for a little break. On site, you will find the trail under the following name: AU PIED DES EOLIENNES Two walking trails partially overlap, offering two hiking circuits in the heart of the Lorraine countryside: one 4.3 km long and the other 11.4 km. This first 4.3 km tour, called "At the Foot of the Wind Turbines", takes you on a picturesque route along an ancient Roman road, formerly known as the Chaussée de Bombelles. This historic road offers a unique blend of history, nature, and modernity. You’ll cross a long, peaceful straight path, off the main roads, with a view of the majestic wind turbines emerging from the fields in the distance. Along the way, you’ll pass right at the base of these impressive turbines, making you feel small compared to them. The route also leads into the Schorrwald forest, where a shaded and pleasant trail immerses you in nature. Right next to it, at the edge of the Schorrwald forest is a relaxation area accessible upon request from the town hall. The starting and ending point of this circuit is located right next to it. - Alternative route: you also have the option of taking a second, longer route, “The former Bombelles road” (La Chaussée de Bombelles). Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

The Moulin d'Eschviller site is entirely dedicated to the connection between man and his environment. In a remarkable natural setting, discover the educational apiary which plunges you into the fascinating world of bees and beekeeping on a guided tour without the need for a reservation at 2.30pm. At 3.30pm the tour continues with a visit to an old grain mill, where you can relive the work of the millers. The paddle wheel and the grinding system are set in motion during the tour. At 4.30pm, the tour ends with a visit to the sawmill to learn more about wood processing. To complement your visit, you'll find a shop selling local specialities. The site is also the starting point for a natural trail, walking paths and cycling routes. At the adjacent Auberge du Moulin, you can dine indoors or on the terrace overlooking the bucolic surroundings.

Dominating the small village of Ormersviller, St Joseph's Chapel is in the hamlet of "Auf der Burg" meaning "to the castle". A picnic area and car park have been created for those that would like to visit this sanctuary. The chapel was built between 1893 and 1895 on the site of a disused quarry. It has become a site for pilgrimage for the surrounding villagers that pray, plead and thank the success of pregancy and childbirth. The history of this chapel is closely related to the statue on the column of St Joseph, patron saint and protector of families.

The small Saints Chapel at Schweyen can be found at the end of a wooded alley not far from the road that leads to Rolbing. It is built of sandstone rubble and the roof is covered in flat tiles. The chapel takes its name from the statues of the saints that were found there before the last war: Our lady of sorrow, St Margaret, St Wendelin, St Blaise and St Georges. Pilgrimages were made here by pregnant women to see the statue of St Margaret.

In the church cemetery, Schorbach ossuary has one of the most interesting medieval architecture in the area. Being the old mother parish of Bitche, the ossuary was built around about 1125. The archtecture dates back to the 15th century. The beautiful Roman columns (each in different style) show the importance given to ossuaries in that time. The ossuary is filled with more than 100m3 of bones and skulls. In 1889, it was the first building in Pays de Bitche to be classified as an historical monument.

The Art centre at Schorbach with its modern art pieces and exhibitions, is located in a contemporary setting with an unique architecture. Discover the masterpiece “the peace calendar” carved in sandstone which is composed of 366 portraits of representatives of peace around the world. The visit can be completed by a fascinating nature trail aligned with original sculptures.

The Simserhof, one of the most important constructions of the Maginot Line, was built in the 1930s and offers an impressive insight into the Maginot Line today. During an interesting tour, you can experience the everyday life of the soldiers. The underground tour of the barracks allows you to discover spaces filled with the memory of the 876 men of the garrison: the barracks, the power station, the kitchens, the infirmary, the sanitary facilities, the command post and a firing chamber will fill your visit with emotion. The visit is only possible by reservation. To complement your visit, a 10 km outdoor trail around the battle blocks will show you the impassable defence line designed by the architects of the French defences in the early 1930s. The tour starts at the upper car park.

Looking down on to the town's football pitch, this small less known fort is an annex to the Citadel. Built between 1850 and 1853 on a hill to the north west of the town, it has a very important stategic position. During the seige in 1870-1871, this stronghold stopped the enemy approaching too close. The camp below gave shelter to thousands of men for nine months.

The locals call this chapel, Notre dame of Pity. Built in 1515, it was situated next to the town lake but the lake was drained in 1820. The date of its construction which is difficult to read, is written in latin on two sanstne slabs. At the end of the chapel is a statue of the Virgin "Pity" scupltured in the 17th century out of limewood.

At the foot of the Citadel, this contemporary garden proposes a festival of thematic, ephemeral creations. Associating the glass and crystal with rustic plants and forged iron and grasses, a dozen artistic gardens are regularly recreated by the town gardeners. Sharing their knowledge, their ingenuity and ideas, the Garden of Peace is original and fun. The visitors are more and more impatient to discover the new garden each year. The "Accueillet" is a new reception where souvenirs and seasonal savours can be found. It also has a cafeteria inspired from the horticultural and artistic creations.
