Nature walks in a farming environmentDeparture Parking Avenue de l'ancienne gare Pass under the bridge (D31) and follow the "Avenue des Sorgues" towards the "Canal du Moulin de Crillon", 500 m away. At the gas station traffic circle, turn right onto "Chemin de la Garonne" and continue along this road for 300 meters. Then turn right at the "Sentier du canal de Crillon" sign. Follow the signs for "Sentier du canal du moulin de Crillon" for about 1.5 km. Turn right onto the path, staying on "Chemin de Castane" for 600 m. Continue on the paved "Chemin de Blancas" to the left, then head due south for 300 metres and take the first road on the left, "Chemin du Receveur". Follow the unpaved "Chemin du Receveur". Opposite the equestrian center, turn right onto "Chemin de Castane". Once on this road, head south to join "Chemin de la Garonne" (tarred). Turn left and follow the road for 1.5 km to the gas station roundabout. Then turn left onto "Avenue des Sorgues" and follow it back to the "Marché agricole" parking lot.

Located on the banks of the Rhône, Islon St Luc is part of a Natura 2000 protected area. The area is of particular interest for its flora and fauna, and boasts a beautiful natural ensemble with a wide variety of species and natural habitats.Trees are dotted all over the area making it a nice place where families and older generations will enjoy going for a walk. Joggers and ramblers can make use of the health circuit set up there. Picnics can be enjoyed on the stone benches and tables in the shade of tall trees. Make sure you visit the Arboretum set up by the town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the National Forestry Office. It gives you the opportunity to find out about some surprising varieties of trees. L’Islon is the starting point for discovery trails such as the ecological trail, which invites visitors to (re)discover the natural heritage of Bras des Arméniers (distance: 2 km). Information panels along the way explain how the natural environment of Islon Saint Luc works. This is also the starting point for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape natural heritage trail. It goes along the banks of the Rhone and the converted towpath. It features a series of historic and environmental information panels. 10 km circuit. The Jardin du Pape and the Jardin du Palais join the Verger Urbain V, inaugurated on September 14, 2018, and freely accessible to the public, to complete the triptych of the Jardins du Palais des Papes. This redevelopment is structured into two zones: the Jardin du Palais (or Jardin Benoît XII, 1250m2) and the Jardin du Pape (662m2). The 14th-century hydraulic network was chosen as the structuring element for the design of the Palace Garden, delimiting the large rectangles where Mediterranean plant species attested to in the 14th century in these pontifical gardens are planted. The Jardin du Pape is an intimate garden, with direct access from the papal apartments. The redevelopment of the garden has restored its precious character, with the re-creation of the griffin fountain and the surrounding flower meadow. The famous and imposing Roma building, of which only a trace remains on the ground, has been reconstituted in the form of a monumental pergola, which will eventually be entirely covered with plants. The Saint Bénezet bridge, a major witness of the history of Avignon, is known throughout the world thanks to the famous song. Built from the 12th century, it was washed away several times by the floods of the Rhone, and finally abandoned in the seventeenth century. Classified World Heritage by UNESCO. DUE TO THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY, THE BRIDGE WILL EXCEPTIONALLY CLOSE AT 2PM ON DECEMBER 23. Legend has it that the bridge was built in the 12th century by a young shepherd from the Vivarais region, Bénézet, by heavenly command. In reality, however, the bridge's construction was an ongoing project spanning several centuries. Hydrological changes in the river, following climatic changes from the 15th century onwards, were responsible for its destruction. It was no longer used from the 17th century onwards. The bridge was 920 meters long, with 22 arches linking the two banks of the Rhône. A bearer of legends and an emblematic monument of the region, it was the subject of unprecedented interdisciplinary work from 2010 to 2016, mobilizing an entire community of researchers under the aegis of Greater Avignon and the CNRS. The results of this research can now be admired thanks to museographic and multimedia mediation devices that reconstitute the Bridge in 3D in its landscape at different times. Originally a Roman place of worship, the first Christian chapel was built in the 10th century. It occupies the site of a Roman villa located along the major Roman road linking Spain and Italy. The church is dedicated to Saint Baudile, a Roman legionnaire and deacon who was martyred in Nîmes in the year 300. The remains of an earlier building constructed in the 10th century by the bishops of Avignon, who owned the site, are still visible on the outside (at the top of the grand staircase) and inside (in the last bay under and on the platform). The current building includes several chapels added over the centuries around the nave and apse from the 12th century (classified as a Historic Monument in 1921). The building was classified as a Historic Monument in its entirety in 1999 and is open all year round. Extra information : Due to the good preservation of the building, the church square is sometimes used as a location for filming period films.

The construction of a church dedicated to Saint Baudile was ordered in the 10th century, so as to enlarge an already existing chapel. Saint Baudile was a Roman legionnaire converted to Christianity, who suffered martyrdom in 300 AD in Nîmes. Since then, he has become the patron saint of the Noves village. This Romanesque church occupies the site of an ancient place of worship, which was in the center of a Roman villa. ;

It is on the Lagnel square that a part of the transhumant herds passed the night while waiting to cross the Durance, to leave towards the mountain pastures. Noves remained for a long time anchored in pastoralism and cereal crops: each inhabitant had a few sheep and each house had a sheepfold to shelter them. It is only from the nineteenth century, that the activity of the town is moving towards market gardening and fruit trees.

The ramparts, ranked as UNESCO World Heritage, encircle the entire old city. They are 4.3 km long, and were started in 1355 during the Papacy of Pope Innocent VI, to protect the city from the assaults by the roving bands of mercenaries. They were finished in 1370 under Pope Urban V. The entrance of the Avignon Bridge provides access onto the ramparts, and to the Rocher des Doms Gardens. The views over the city and the Rhône River are breathtaking. There is no charge to go up on the ramparts.

Fortress of the Counts of Provence. On the summits of Griffon hill stands the medieval castle. It was built there for its strategic location during the 13th and 15th c. This former site of the Counts of Provence is registered as «Historical Monument». During the guided tour, you will discover castle arichitecture and the story of Benoit XIII, an extraordinary pope. The garden is an invitation for walking.

Romanesque church. The St Denys church hides behind its 19th c. facade, a giant Roman nave and also a beautiful Gothic heart. Woodwork and paintings of Mignard (a French artist) can be seen in the lateral sides naves. One of them overhung the altar of the Brotherhood of St-Eloi. A magnificent organ which belonged to the Lumière brothers can also be admired on the balcony at the bottom of the church. The bell tower was originally a gardian whatchtower. The church, was until the French Revolution the only one «important public place» where the inhabitants could gathered. Its architecture shows the demographic evolution of the city. This place of cult, pray, refuge in wartime, was also the spot of the first Republican elections. The Chapel located in the church houses statues of the Three Marie surrended by a pictural landscape telling the main events of the Virgin.

Our guest house is an 18th-century farmhouse located in a residential area of Roquemaure, in the heart of the vineyards and cradle of the Côtes du Rhône. Right in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône vineyards, from which it originated, Roquemaure is located on the banks of the river, offering quick access to numerous hiking trails, with Mont Ventoux in the background. Our house is a former 18th-century farmhouse, separated into two separate dwellings. A private part, previously restored, and a part dedicated to guests, which my wife and I have renovated and decorated. It comprises three bedrooms on two floors and a shared kitchen. Outside, there's a 30m² terrace and a 600m² garden with an 8x4m swimming pool and Jacuzzi. It's located in a quiet residential area in the village of Roquemaure, 16km from Avignon, ideally situated between the Vaucluse and Gard regions to discover the tourist highlights of the South of France. The village has a rich history, thanks in particular to its geographical location on the banks of the Rhône and its proximity to Avignon. As a hub for wine transportation, it was here that the Côtes du Rhône appellation was created. Today, the remains of the château and the collegiate church bear witness to this prestigious past. The latter is still important today, as it houses the relics of Saint Valentine, which are the subject of an annual votive celebration attracting large numbers of devotees. Its baroque organ is listed as a historic monument. In addition to the region's many tourist and cultural attractions, the wine industry shapes the landscape.
