Discover the charm of Vresse-sur-Semois, Namur, Namur

A varied hike between Vresse and Orchimont with some nice views on the plateau of le Terne and on the village of Orchimont. At the Camp du Blaireaux, a commemoration of the resistance fighters from the 2nd World War, there's a picnic and barbecue area. The way back partly coincides with hike 26. 

Le Terne is the name of the plateau between Orchimont and Vresse that you reach via a slowly ascending track from the village. The walk deviates briefly to pass by the Camp du Maquis. Here you'll discover where the maquis hid out during the 2nd World War.  A stony path that goes down quite steeply brings you back to your starting point.

This is the homeland of painter Albert Raty, born in Bouillon and later settled in Vresse, where he captured the landscapes of the Semois Valley with remarkable sensitivity. His work also inspired the so-called “School of Vresse”, a group of artists drawn to the light, calm, and authenticity of this Ardennes valley.Along the way, you’ll not only discover the landscapes that inspired them but also the places where their art still lives today — from the Ducal Museum in Bouillon, which showcases the region’s artistic heritage, to the Art Interpretation Centre in Vresse, exhibiting works by Albert Raty, Marie Howet, Léon Frédéric, Milo Dardenne, and many others.But this route offers more than art: it’s also a beautiful ride through a varied landscape of forest, river, and charming villages perched on the heights of the Semois Valley. You’ll follow quiet roads, sometimes unpaved — more adventurous through the woods, more peaceful along the river — alternating with lightly trafficked secondary roads.The route is 50 km long, starting from Bouillon or Vresse. Along the way, you’ll find picnic areas and places to eat and drink in both villages. This circuit takes you past some picturesque villages in and around the valley of the Semois. The first 5 km you calmly follow the river on a partly paved and then newly asphalted road. From point 49 on, it gets more strenuous with very varied elevation changes. Good legs or a good battery recommended :) Suite des points noeud: 48-49-7-47-8-16-48

This walk leads to the viewpoint Les Vipères: a flat rock hidden in the forest where vipers like to come and sunbathe. If you're lucky, there may also be deer resting in the sun.  You get there via a steep climb along a narrow forest path.  The second part of the hike goes together with hike 25 to the Trou des Fees.

The ‘La Glycine’ gallery offers a varied programme of exhibitions throughout the year. Every month, one or more artists present their work. The gallery is on the second floor of the tourist and cultural centre. Access via the staircase or lift.Free admission.

Vresse-sur-Semois, nestling on the banks of the Semois in a forest setting, has inspired many a landscape painter. This village, lying on the edge of the province of Namur, is on a human scale, as is the little Saint-Lambert stone bridge that takes you across into another world, that of the imaginary Ardennes.
