With the spa town of the Vosges in your rear view, you continue your picturesque cycling adventure between the Vosges canal and the Coney valley. This stage of the Voie Bleue passes through the Vosges forest, populated by spruce, beech and maple trees. Once in the Haute-Saône, the green ribbon of the canal will allow you to discover the atypical manual swing bridge at Selles, which allows the waterway to be cleared for boats. The route is easy to follow along the towpath of the Canal des Vosges. Bains-les-Bains - La Voie Bleue link To reach La Voie Bleue from Bains-les-Bains by the D164 or by the D434 (Grurupt lock) Link to La Rochère Downstream from Selles, the "voie verte des tuileries" leads to Passavant-la-Rochère for a visit to the La Rochère glassworks and to discover the glassmakers who pick, mesh, blow and shape the glass. Link to EuroVelo 6 At Selles, a shared site link has been created between the cycle route and the EV6 in Belfort. This will allow you to discover the spa town of Luxeuil-les-Bains and the Plateau des 1000 étangs. Key places: - La Forge de Thunimont: former spinning mill Town of Fontenoy le Château: marina, cobbled streets, castle, Lombard tower. - Selles: manual swing bridge - Passavant-la-Rochère: La Rochère glassworks with its glassblowers - the oldest glassworks still in operation since 1475. - Jonvelle : Gallo-Roman site. - Corre: ancient floating centre located in the upstream basin of the Saône. Trail market out in both directions by a blue ring, which can be combined with circuit 7 (Caution: red triangle marking at the start of the Bains-Les-Bains tourism office since this section is shared with other trails, then blue ring marking at the Parc Thermal) Through the countryside, between meadows and undergrowth, this rather shady walk is almost mostly small tarmac country roads, so it can be done with a pushchair for example. At the Grands Prés, a beautiful restored house, then traditional charri farms mark out this route with a slight difference in level. Nice view over the highest point of Le Noirmont.

Trail marked out by a green ring. At the start, follow the signs shared by all the trails: red triangle, then after the thermal park, follow the green ring. This trail is accessible to all and shaded, ideal for hot weather. The trail starts at the thermal baths of Bains-les-Bains. On the way out, you pass through the charming spa park of the resort. From this point on, follow the two-way marking with a green ring. By taking the avenue du Docteur Bailly, then the route de la gare you will gradually leave the town and you will find yourself in the nature. This route follows a charming stream. At the roundabout, take the path along the D164. It will be accessible on your right. Don't forget to take a moment to observe the surrounding nature with its diverse flora and fauna. Then your steps will lead you to the forest hill of Rédé. Finally the path will take you across the D164 and back in the opposite direction. You will retrace your steps via the rue de Bertramont and return to the town and the starting point.

Blue ring marking - Varied trail - At the Rue de la Pavée near the camping area, follow the small marked path. Continue on this path until you cross the Rue des Anciens Moulins. The big building in front of you is an old wire drawing mill. Wire drawing is the process of reduction of the cross-section of a metal wire by mechanical traction on a drawing machine. Factories that specialise in wire drawing are called wire drawing mills. Turn left to continue along Rue des Anciens Moulins. Follow the markings to a small path in the forest. You come to a crossroads, turn right. You will come to another crossroads, turn right again. The road you are taking was the old road used by the inhabitants of Trémonzey to get to work in the factory, the mills, the wire drawing mill... You will arrive at the Moulin au bois, a former nail factory. This metallurgical factory, known as the Moulins-aux-Bois forge in the 16th century, then became a hardware factory (nails) in the 19th century. It definitely closed in 1980. The film "Indigène" by Rachid Bouchared was shot in this area. The film takes place in 1943, when France is trying to free itself from Nazi domination. It follows the journey of four "natives", forgotten soldiers of the 1st French army recruited in Africa. Cross the D434 to continue straight ahead over a bridge. You will walk along the Canal des Vosges and the river Le Côney, then cross a wooden bridge. Continue on this road and you will see the Manufacture on your left, then the beech tree opposite the Châtelet. Take the straight road on the left (possibility of a path through the wood on the left, to be avoided in wet weather). Following the markings, cross the road carefully and go up on the right by a stone path, an old Roman road.

The starting point is at the Tourism Office of La Vôge-Les-Bains. First, follow the markings common to all the routes (red triangle). Then, after the pedestrian street, follow the markings with a green ring. Via a small country road, the rural setting surrounding the resort of Bains Les Bains is quickly enjoyable by the hikers: green hills, damp undergrowth and a wooden bridge spanning the "Ru Migaille" near the ruins of the old Quenot forge. Follow the rue du Haut Champ and after crossing the D164, you will slowly make it to the countryside, through fields and forest. Follow this path which will take you past a lovely stream. After crossing the stream, take the path on the right which will lead you to the preserved site of the Etang Lallemand in the village of Les Voivres with its fish farm. It is an ideal place for a picnic break, or to observe the fauna and flora of the wetlands. This site is also part of the Lorraine observatory of sensitive environments. Continue along the path and at the crossroads, turn right to return to La Vôge-Les-Bains. At the next crossroads, turn left, cross the D164 again, and return to the starting point, via the rue des Creuses. Marking: green ring

For a quick and panoramic discovery of the resort of Bains Les Bains, this short forestry trail, just a stone's throw from the centre and with a steep slope, allows the discovery of the Million hill overlooking the spa. It owes its name to the honey that used to be produced there.

After a gradual slope on the road and then through the fields (lookout point for observing the fauna) to the Bourguignotte recreation area (shelter, drinking water and children's playground), this hike continues into the undergrowth on a footpath. After the hamlet of Raval, discovery of the Fontaine aux chèvres in a beautiful beech forest, then crossing the hamlet of Fontenelles, the way back goes through the beautiful forest paths to the Fouillies wood.

This route leads to the Hameau de La Forêt overlooking the spa town of Bains Les Bains. Crossing the thermal park, it takes you through the Bertramont forest, along a path that runs alongside the river Bagnerot. As you enter the hamlet of La Forêt, you get to a large plateau at a 400m altitude, between pastures and orchards, with a wide panorama over the surrounding hills.

Starting point from the Tourism Office, take the pedestrian walkway passing in front of the impressive Bain de la Promenade, to reach the large Thermal Park and its water feature. After the Art Deco style Potinière building, follow the Bagnerot stream (clockwise) or go up on the left (anticlockwise) to join the bypass and reach the Bertramont forest opposite.

DEPARTING FROM LAUSANNE, HEAD TO THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF GRUYÈRES, HOME TO THE FAMOUS SWISS CHEESE! Departing from Lausanne, head to the medieval town of Gruyères, home to the famous Swiss cheese!  Leave Lausanne by bus and climb up into the alpine pastures to reach Gruyères.  After a tour around the town, your guide will take you to a Swiss chocolate factory to show you how famous Swiss chocolate is made.  Then head to an old alpine cheese factory. Enjoy a Swiss cheese tasting and learn more about the national dish: fondue.  Learn to make your own Swiss fondue and try the traditional dish.  After your meal, relax and climb on board the Golden Express, a panoramic train which crosses the alpine pastures and the heights of Lake Geneva. Enjoy incredible views of the lake and the Alps. When you get off the train, get back on your bus and head to Lavaux and its terraced vineyards. The telecombi is a teleport with seats and cabins. The Télécombi du Mont Rond, coming from the Col de la Faucille, allows you to access the crests of the Haute Chaîne du Jura; it lifts you from 1323m to 1543m altitude. Once there, the hiker is only 30mn walk away to reach the Grand Mont Rond (1596m), and 2h for the Colomby de Gex (1689m). 2 blue pistes for all mountain biking are marked from the top of the télécombi. In winter, it allows snowshoe enthusiasts to reach the summits with ease and to enjoy the ridges. Please respect the regulations set up by the Natural Reserve of the Jura Range.

The Lombard Tower is the last trace of the fortifications erected in the 14th century when the town was connected to the House of Burgundy. Also known as the “Tour du Poids”, it was used for administrative purposes during the economic boom of the town during the Renaissance. To discover: 2 traditional vaulted artillery rooms with three gun ports and a beautiful Guard Room on the 3rd level. Tours every third Monday from mid-March to mid-November with the Tourist Information Office of Bains-Les-Bains. Occasional tours by the “Amis du Vieux Fontenoy” association in summer and during the Heritage Days in September.

Built during a prosperous period, this church is in the flamboyant Gothic style of the 15th century. Built by the Burgundian Sires on the remains of a Romanesque building, of which some traces remain (pools), it has a beautiful overall harmony. The unique choir has an altar made of a massive buhr mill, cut from local sandstone. On top of it are anthropomorphic keystones with the effigy of the Lords of Neuchâtel. The sculpted stone pulpit, the baptismal font and the south portal are fine examples of Renaissance architecture. Guided tour every third Monday from March to October, Information and reservations at the Tourist Information Office of La Vôge-Les-Bains, and free visit all year round.

The association « Les amis du Vieux Fontenoy » organise a party to celebrate these 40 years. Around one of the oldest Dungeon of Lorraine many activities will be proposed. On the programme : conferences of the Middle Age, visit of the castle ruin, demonstration of arts and crafts, open air cinema, … You will find food service on the spot.

In the “Museum of glass, iron, wood and the Resistance”, there are countless glass objects, tools, models and photographs illustrating the expertise of the people of the forest over the last five centuries. One room focusses on the French Resistance (1943-44); another highlights the famous glassmaker François-Théodore Legras. In summer 2010, there will be a temporary exhibition entitled, “The Gallo-Romans in Saône Lorraine”.

Between forest, canal and river, the Manufacture Royale of Bains is alongside the walking and cycling path. The manufacture Royale was the most important tinware factory in the Kingdom in the 18th century, with an industry born from wood and water? It is one of the best preserved French industrial sites of the 18th century. The history of this industrial site is fabulous. Baron Falatieu, who brought the Manufacture Royale to a peak, left his mark here. Other personalities did the same: Julie Victoire Daubié, the first French baccalaureate female holder, who was born in the Maison du Caissier in 1824, Cavour, the leader of the Italian unification movement, who stayed there in 1839, and the politician Jules Méline. A visit to the park with its century-old trees allows you to discover the dwarf beech, Unesco's tree of the year in 2011, and the rare species that bear witness to the domain’s rich industrial past (Ginko Biloba, Catalpa, Tulip tree). In the charcoal hall, which was used to store charcoal, you can discover the exhibitions that retrace the history of the tinware factory, thanks to the research of Chantal Starck, Remi Ritter, and Anny Thouvenin with the Departmental Archives... The Manufacture Royale has received many awards for the beauty of its park and terraced gardens, and for its chapel and its stained glass windows, made by Nathalie Noirjean and restored with the help of donors and the Fondation du Patrimoine. One of the oldest paternalist industrial sites in Lorraine, turned since then into dwellings, guest houses, gites and rooms in the castle which tell, like the guided tours, this timeless story. Guided tours of the industrial site, its park and its chapel take place on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month from April to October, upon prior registration at the tourist information office. Groups on reservation. Activities, concerts and exhibitions are offered in June, July and September. The site remains open and accessible all year round, and an exhibition is offered free of charge.

Free tour of the House of Julie Victoire Daubié in the Manufacture Royale of Bains-les-Bains. In her residence “Maison des Illustres” which is open to visitors, you will discover her reconstructed library, with extracts from her works from original documents entrusted by the BMI of Epinal. A tour in a refined setting that brings to life the era of Julie Victoire.

Neo-Gothic chapel from 1861 and former important place of pilgrimage. Here, people pray to the Virgin to heal the sick. The inside is papered with votive offerings. The stained glass windows recall the legend that a statue of the Virgin Mary, originally placed in the hollow of an oak tree in the middle of the “brosse” (brush), mysteriously moved to the church in Bains. In the park surrounding the chapel there is still a mission cross from 1886 and a memorial honouring the parish priest Bernardin, who was responsible for the creation of the chapel. On the back of the tympanum of the entrance, an engraved text reminds us of this.

Learn more about the amazing history of this former starch factory from the 19th century, a survivor of the Vosges heritage. Our association of enthusiasts will take you on a journey along the "Potato to Starch Trail", to discover a forgotten activity which was yet practised in more than 300 starch factories in the Vosges! For ten years now, the volunteers of the association "Les Kémottes" have been working to restore the potato processing process and to revive the history of the workers. This initiative was made possible thanks to the memories and funny anecdotes passed on by the "old-timers" of the starch factory. The visit begins along the canal that guided the water from the Vôge to the large mill wheel. This wheel produced the energy needed to operate the various machines in the starch factory. We then follow the path of the potato, from the cellar where it was stored, to the sacking of the starch obtained after the extraction process. Immerse yourself in the daily life of the workers: sorting, washing, grating, filtering, decanting, drying... until a fine, white, silky powder was obtained and sent to textile factories, paper mills, glucose factories... walk among the clever installations, from the production workshop to the floor where the starch was dried and sieved. A journey through time that will tell you a lot about the working conditions, the tools and the tasks of the workers in the starch factory.
