Sometimes in the heart of the forest, sometimes on pretty country paths, this walk is full of charm in any season.

The charming village of Chassepierre is set in a narrow valley facing a loop of the Semois. A real paradise for painters who appreciate its architecture, calmness and landscapes. It is included on the list of “most beautiful villages in Wallonia”. Located at the edge of the town forest, the Matton and Clemency arboretum (known as "3 Fleurs") welcomes you since 1996. It was the desire of the village to transform a former garbage dump into a one hectare park. A pond, a bridge, a pergola, a kiosk, a water wheel were all made by volunteer residents. With about 150 species, the park won the first “Prix National de l’Arbre” in 2003.

Remains of three Gallo-Roman temples or "fanum" dating from different periods (from 50 BC to around 350 AD) have been uncovered here. The site is free to visit and contains educational panels.

Château de Réméhan, located in Pouru-Saint-Remy in the Ardennes, is a building steeped in history. Although little precise information is available about its past, it is thought to have belonged to the d'Anglemont de Tassigny family for several centuries. Its illustrious owners included Jean Florentin Lambin d'Anglemont (1689-1715), Lord of Anglemont and Réméhan, co-Lord of Lombut, Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis (1735), and his brother Charles Lambin d'Anglemont (1716-1758), who became Lord of Réméhan in 1753. Lambin d'Anglemont, who was a bodyguard to the King and then cavalry captain in the Chabot regiment (Crussol in 1747), died in the camp as a result of his wounds during the Seven Years' War. In the 19th century, the estate passed to the Nonancourt family. Château de Réméhan, once the residence of the d'Anglemont de Tassigny family, has undergone significant conversion: it is now a stud farm dedicated to horse breeding, perpetuating an activity in harmony with its historic and natural setting.

10 May 1940. The Germans pushed rapidly through the Belgian Ardennes and went round the famous Maginot Line. It didn’t suffered at all, except in Villy where the German army bombarded the fortified structure with over 250 cannons. The shock was terrible, but the garrison stood its ground for three days. Eventually, the Germans overcame the resistance by placing charges beneath the domes. Inside, it was hell: 104 soldiers were asphyxiated. Visits – individuals and groups/bookings.

Late 12th century… Culture, confined within the abbeys, such as the Benedictine monastery of Mouzon, opened up to the outside world. Ways of thinking evolved and this phenomenon was also seen in art. Whereas the Romanesque is a style of balance, Gothic expresses verticality. The abbatial church of Mouzon was a fine example of this new trend. Only the church and the abbey gardens, in the French style, are open to visitors: the abbey itself has become a retirement home.

Its primitive Gothic style (1195) and it's imposing four-storey height lend it a ressemblance to Laon's Cathedral ! The structure houses a Baroque organ built by Christophe Moucherel in 1725 and a recluse's cell. The former abbey, now a retirement home, is not open for visiting, but the French-style gardens, formerly the monks' vegetable garden, are open to the public. Organ concerts are offered there every year. Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. unless restriction.

A few steps from the Abbey of Mouzon, there is a former abbey of Benedictine monks. Founded in 971 by the Archbishop of Reims, it is composed of three buildings: - a main building (currently a retirement home) - a dovecote (tourist office) - an outbuilding (felt museum). Until 1671, the city walls also had a surrounding moat. Until 1789, the monks lived on products grown from the agricultural land (given by the Archbishop), and from the forest, rivers, mills and herbs grown in the abbey garden. After 1789, the facility was transformed into a civil hospital, where the garden has been preserved. Over time, it has become a flower garden, maintained by the retirement home gardener.

This chapel was built at the request of Abbé Thomas, the parish priest in the 19th century. He had made a vow to Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours during a war and had walked to Paris to find the money needed to build this chapel in place of a damaged calvary. He wanted to affiliate his pilgrimage with the Confrérie Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, and his entry was one of the first in 1841. It was on this date that the pilgrimage began, on the first Sunday in May, and the hotel was donated by the owners of the Château de Reméhan. This small square chapel has a pavilion roof covered in slate. It is a single room, with waxed panelling on all three walls. The west wall consists of two wooden panels with translucent white glass louvres protected by a wrought iron grille. The shell is limestone rubble and the door frame is Dom-le-Mesnil ashlar. Access is via a small stone staircase with two steps.

The bell tower (and probably the nave) was rebuilt in 1822, as indicated by the date on a cartouche on the west façade, below the clock (the bell was supplied the following year). In 1834, Pierre Cornu from Bazeilles tendered for the extension of the church: this most likely involved the construction of the apse and sacristy. The estimate called for the use of ashlar from Bulson. Saint-Remy church is located in the centre of the village. It has an elongated plan. The single-vessel nave is preceded by a western section comprising a bell tower in the centre, flanked by a chapel to the south and the spiral staircase to the north. The choir is preceded by a fore-choir bay and comprises a straight bay and a polygonal semicircular apse against which the sacristy is built. The building is built of limestone rubble with a limestone ashlar chain and the bell tower is rendered. The inside faces of the walls are rendered. The floor of the nave is covered with Romery limestone tiles and that of the choir with a checkerboard of black and grey marble. The building has a single storey with large semi-circular windows. The nave, the fore-choir bay and the right choir bay are vaulted by a barrel vault and the apse by a cul-de-four. The entire building has a slate roof. The nave, sacristy and choir are covered by a long-sloped roof, the apse by a polygonal hipped roof and the bell tower by a polygonal spire.

The gîte is housed in a former goat barn. New elements have been added to transform it into a cosy corner for two to relax in. The living space is on the second floor. The kitchen is fully equipped. The terrace, entirely private, has a barbecue and garden furniture. Take the stairs to the garden and enjoy the view over the village and surrounding area.
