This circular trail takes you to a host of heritage sites in Cattenom and neighbouring towns: Mirgenbach Lake, Usselskirch tower, remarkable stations of the cross, villages, and Rodemack Citadel. Informative panels (maps, heritage sites to explore, etc.) are found at each of the three trailheads: Mirgenbach Lake carpark in Cattenom, “Cap Vert” swimming pool carpark in Breistroff-la-Grande, ramparts carpark in Rodemack.

A six-kilometre trail encircles Mirgenbach Lake, an exceptional area where industry, mankind, and nature cohabitate. Dotted with informational panels, the trail explains the role of this manmade lake and takes you on a tour of the plants and animals species that live there. The lake was created at the same time as the Cattenom power plant.

In the middle of winter 1940, the soldiers Hugues and Erwan, based at the Galgenberg structure, are entrusted with a mission of the utmost importance: to find Corporal Louis! Help the two friends in their adventure and go to the front of the Maginot Line in Cattenom! This route, linked to the new Maginot Trail, allows you to discover the salient as a whole and the functions and interactions of the large works, small works, barracks, shelters, casemates and blockhouses. This pleasant 12-km trail will take you from church to church, from Gavisse to Berg-sur-Moselle, via Haute-Kontz and Rettel. You will see the church of Saint-Antoine in Gavisse built in 1865, the church of Saint Hubert in Haute-Kontz built in 1734 on a rock overlooking the valley of the Moselle and resting on Roman foundations, the old church of Rettel and, to its right, the convent created in the year 800 by the sisters of Charlemagne, then the church of Berg-sur-Moselle. Take the time to observe the natural surroundings and enjoy the forest and fields on one side and the Moselle valley on the other.

Follow this path that mainly winds through the forest to discover several buildings on the Maginot Line. Forge a better understanding of the region’s military past as you observe the various blockhaus along the way and enjoy the unspoilt natural setting. Since 2020, this trail shares a section with the newly created linear route (marked by the yellow diamonds – same starting point at Soetrich, clockwise direction) that aims to take in as many of the sector’s military structures as possible. Some of them can be visited. The linear route will take you to Cattenom, on the edge of Moselle (length: 17km).

Follow the signs for a countryside walk! They will take you into the forest for a glimpse places that emerge from the past and typify the Moselle countryside. In the heart of Zoufftgen state forest, there is a place called “Kanonenplatz”. According to local historians, this is where the guns that were used during the siege of the city of Luxembourg by French troops in 1684 were stored. Along the route you can also see the imposing Fogelsang farm, a forest refuge in Zoufftgen and the Chapelle Saint Antoine. The 12-km walk ends in front of the Neo-Gothic church of Saint Rémi.

Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

Discover the Church of Saint Catherine built on a rocky outcrop in 1514. It was built on the foundations of an old chapel, which itself would have been built by the Templars between 1100 and 1300. Its rustic look and square tower give it real character.

Between Breistroff-la-Grande and Rodemack, this picnic area has a lovely view of the village and the citadel of Rodemack. There is a table and two benches.

The Chapel of Our Lady was built in 1658 by the village’s inhabitants. Its exterior architecture is very stripped-down. It takes the form of a long, single-celled nave and features a barrel vault, a door beneath two oculi, and an imperial-style roof. This chapel is still the site of a pilgrimage on Pentecost Monday to celebrate the Holy Spirit.

This small, understated chapel bears the date of 1752 in its pediment stone. The stained-glass windows date from 1936. It is dedicated to Saint Fiacre, a herbalist monk who lived in the seventh century.

Known as the "Croix de la Louve" or "Calvaire du moulin de Boler", this calvary was erected in 1713 by François Lapierre. Legend has it that Pierre and Madeleine, a couple returning from the cemetery after losing their son, were attacked by a wolf. But the couple was defended by an army of crows who pounced on the animal and gouged out its eyes. The wolf then fled and in gratitude for this miracle, the couple had this Calvary built (Bildstock). Each of the sides of the Calvary has a different design, which is sure to interest you.

Step into this wooded park and let your imagination take you back in time. The ideal place for a stroll, the park features a number of remarkable buildings including a chapel, former stables and towers that are key to understanding the site’s military function. It also harbours a variety of tree species. Visit the towers, the parapet walk and the fortifications to observe the surrounding area. Created in 1990 by the Association "Les Amis des Vieilles Pierres pour la Sauvegarde de Rodemack", the Medieval Garden evokes the “hortus conclusus” of fortified castles. It is an enclosed garden with cultivated areas forming geometric patterns. Each cultivated area is bordered by a cobblestone path. Several species are found here : Medicinal plants: borage, salad burnet, camomile, lemon balm, sage, etc. Herbs and fragrant plants: patience dock, tarragon, Welsh onion, lavender, angelica, savory, etc. Flowers: cornflower, forget-me-not, lupin, China aster, and last but not least: rose, the ultimate medieval flower. Various trees and trimmed hedges are planted around the garden, such as blackcurrant, medlar, and cherry.

Built on the foundations of a medieval castle founded by the Lords of Rodemack in the 12th century, the Citadel of Rodemack has its roots in the Middle Ages. Let yourself be carried away by centuries of military history and visit its impressive Renaissance cellar with a remarkable barrel vault. This 16th-century chapel, with its wall belfry and visible bell, is a charming Gothic construction. Peek through the two ox-eye windows for a glimpse inside and the statues of Saint Louis and Saint Apolline, dating from the 16th or 17th century.

A pre-Roman style church has existed here as far back as the year 915. In 1783, following the Thirty Years’ War, the church was rebuilt under the guidance of priest-builder Pierre Emeringer (whose tombstone, located the outer north face, is adorned with a monstrance, tibias, and angel heads). It was built on the exact location of the previous church, but was oriented differently due to a lack of space.
