In 2019, Usseau joins with Priaires and Thorigny-sur-le-Mignon to form the new commune of Val-du-Mignon and becomes its chief town.

All the cycle routes in the Deux-Sèvres Marais Poitevin have the same markings. On these markers (wooden beams with a turquoise plate), are indicated the numbers of the circuits in black. Here, follow the Number 8. The circuits are marked out in both directions, there is no specific starting point, you can start your walk wherever you like. Be careful, the small paths can be used by motorized vehicles. Safety instructions - Wearing a helmet is highly recommended. I ride on the right. I respect the rules of the road. I check the condition of my bike (brakes and lighting). I stay on the marked paths. I respect the marsh, a sensitive and classified site.

Thanks to archaeological excavations, we find traces of occupation of the Rochénard site since the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The 1978-79 excavations revealed a cemetery with burnt human and animal bones, fragments of ceramics and glass, as well as coins dating from the Roman period. You can find them at the Pierre-Henri Mitard cultural space in Usseau. Since 1287, the name of the commune has been in constant evolution but the toponymy is quite similar. The culture of the vine is the main activity of the commune in the XIXth century but the phylloxera puts an end to it. The inhabitants turned to livestock and cereal farming. Our "MIRA" hut is perched and well hidden in an exceptional holm oak tree at least three hundred years old at the bottom of a charming little wood. It is hardly noticeable as it communicates so much with the tree that welcomes it. On the first level, a 20m2 room with a 15m2 terrace with a lounge and coffee table. Above, a small mezzanine extended by a balcony hidden in the ridge branches aspires to reverie accompanied by the whispering of leaves and the singing of birds .. At the foot of the hut, a fully equipped kitchen shed for preparing meals. A shower shed with separate private toilets. A sheltered space under the hut. The hut is equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

Our LOV'NID MIRA is a small one for lovers, perched 8 meters above the ground, in a small wood adjoining an orchard, near the river. It is a small spherical-shaped hut, a cosy little nest, offering a view of the sky thanks to a porthole placed above a vast circular bed. It is insulated with sheep's wool and covered with larch shingles. A wonderful place where you will share unforgettable moments as a lover or a family.. Access is via a large staircase with a douglas fir landing leading to a terrace surrounding the hut. A caravan is located at the foot of the hut with a table and benches convertible into a double bed. Both cabins are equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

The Compagnie de Bouteville combines culture and flavors during an outdoor visit on the history of the village of Bouteville combined with discovery of the factory of its artisanal French balsamic vinegar made in the heart of the 1er cru of Cognac. The Compagnie de Bouteville combines culture and flavors during a food pairing visit combining manufacturing secrets and gastronomy in the heart of the Grande Champagne region. During the tour, guests discover the manufacturing process of the products and the range of flavors during a tasting and finish with a food/vinegar pairing with oysters and/or a platter of charcuterie and cheeses.

The village appears situated on a height with its bell tower emerging from a bouquet of greenery. Its name would derive from the pulleys with lever called storks, whose wells of the country were once equipped. The parish, mentioned in 1100, was created during the clearing of the Chizé forest. Franchises were granted by the Earl of Poitiers in order to attract new inhabitants. Placed on the royal roads, it is in the 16th century. a place of passage of Protestant or Catholic troops. Before phylloxera, most of the commune is covered with vines producing a white wine from which a brandy as good as that of Cognac is taken. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, Belleville and Boisserolles to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson and became a delegated commune. This former seigneurial estate was once called St-Martin-d'Augé. It included a priory close to the forest of Chizé. Where does this name come from? In the fourth century, Martin, then abbot of Ligugé, going from Availles-s.-Chizé to Mauzé-s.-le-Mignon, stopped there to evangelize the population. In 1804, the prefect Dupin wrote that "the wines, which constitute the most important income of the commune, are good, especially the whites. It is made an excellent brandy that is very close to that of Cognac". In 1928, the village takes the name of Boisserolles, located 1 km from Augé, mentioned in the 13th century. and where the town hall is located. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, Belleville and St-Etienne-la-Cigogne to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson. What to see: former priory of St-Martin, fountain of Augé, monumental cross in homage to the combatants...

Priaire(s), which is written with or without the final "s", is quoted for the first time in 1044 in the cartular of the abbey of St-Jean-d'Angély and belonged to the Aunis under the generality and election of La Rochelle, then Deux-Sèvres in 1790. Its terroir was once in one of the Cognac appellation areas. The vines, cultivated over a large area, produced excellent spirits until the phylloxera crisis of 1873, gradually giving way to cooperative dairies and cereal crops. In 2019, the village merges with Usseau and Thorigny-s.-le-Mignon to form the new commune of Val-du-Mignon. It is by taking the time to stroll that we discover the richness of the rural built heritage strongly inspired by the architecture of the nearby Charente department. In a charter of July 1039, William I, Lord of Parthenay (990-1054), invited by Pope John XIX to take under his protection the abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, grants it the court (curtis) of Priaire(s). This donation is the origin of the foundation of the priory (now disappeared). Formerly part of the diocese of Saintes and the archpriesthood of Surgères, the church was united with the parish of Usseau in 1813. It replaced the old sanctuary, whose poverty was highlighted by the 1688 and 1718 visits. To be seen: baptismal font from 1629 and a curious bell tower-wall with a bracketed arch and a cross.

In 2019, the village will merge with Usseau and Thorigny-sur-le-Mignon to form the new commune of Val-du-Mignon and become a delegated commune with Usseau as its chief town. It is a rural village, and today it is home to the only certified sustainable agriculture farm in the department and a tobacco producer. It is by taking the time to stroll along the Subite and the Coudre that one discovers the richness of the built heritage strongly inspired by the architecture of the neighbouring Charente department. Its warm limestone hillock is also favourable to the blossoming of some thirty varieties of orchids growing in the woods and along the berms (narrow paths between a canal and an earthen embankment): Goat orchid, Spider orchid, Woodcock orchid, Hanging man orchid, Bird's nest orchid...

The village, watered by the Mignon, is quoted for the first time in 1183. First in the hands of Aliénor d'Aquitaine, the seigneury became in 1346 the domain of the Comte d'Eu and Guines, connetable of France. Decapitated in 1350, her property was confiscated for the benefit of the Crown and later attributed to Marguerite de Valois, daughter of Charles VI. Then Charles VII gave it to Christin of Chambers, captain of his Scottish guard. In the middle of the 18th century, the parish was partly covered with communal wood. Sheep and a few oxen were raised there, and the vines were cultivated there until the phylloxera invasion in 1880. After the disappearance of Prissé-le-Grand, Belleville inherited the hamlet of Ayguis in 1888. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, St-Etienne-la-Cigogne and Boisserolles to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson and become a delegated commune.

The Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions retraces the life of a ploughman in the 18th century and the evolution of the commune over time. The Gaston Grégor Museum is housed in the former stables and outbuildings of the presbytery which were built in 1789. It is the museum of rural life in the 19th century with old farming, wine-growing and craft tools, a collection of cut stones, local history documents and the reconstruction of the unique room where a hand ploughman lived in 1789. The tools presented bear witness to rural life in the 19th century in our region, both for the cultivation of hemp and vines and the production of cognac, as well as the various trades, carpenters, wheelwrights, etc... Documents dating back to 1575 attest to the mentality and living conditions. A rather rare collection of cut stones from the region retraces several centuries of history (from 3000 BC to the 4th century).
