Located a kilometre away from the present-day spa, the only remnants here are right around the spring itself. But in 1922, the Trou de Madame was a real treatment spa with its own hotel! The buildings were made of stone with tile roofs, and the two-storey hotel offered 10 guest rooms upstairs. Around the baths, there were a changing room, a bathtub, showers and an equipment room housing the water pump and boiler which raised the water’s temperature from 30 to 37°C. The spring was long utilized by individuals, up until 1963. Since 1998, it has been the property of the present-day spa. At a temperature of roughly 30°C, it is a cool mineral water spring. People continue to come here to treat skin diseases (like eczema, psoriasis, etc.) or simply for the pleasure of appreciating these relics of the past. As you continue along your way, you will find the original spring, “the eye”.

Along the bed of the Adour, the barthes are undeveloped wetlands. They extend from Tarnos to Pontonx over nearly 12,000 hectares and have the particularity of being frequently flooded by runoff from the hillsides, rising alluvial water tables and the overflow of rivers. These exceptionally rich areas offer a diverse natural habitat: tree bats, wood-eating insects, otters, cistude and European mink, and marsh copper (a butterfly that breeds on sorrel) are all species that can be found in our Adour barthes. Worked by Man from the 18th century to be drained and cultivated, they are still today crossed by dykes, canals and ditches. At the bend of the Path of Adour, between Gousse and Goos, you will be able to observe the storks which nest at the year between Gousse and Préchacq.

The neo-gothic style building, in the shape of a Latin cross, was built at the end of the 19th century by the architect Dupuy. It was consecrated on June 24, 1888 by Bishop Delannoy, the same day that the new bridge over the Adour was inaugurated, in the perspective of which the church is placed (south-north oriented, not canonically oriented). Mainly composed of limestone, the ornamental sculpture is made of Angoulême stone. The building is entirely covered with slate except for the bell tower, which is topped with a stone spire.

The church was built in 1880. It is located today on the Sentier de l'Adour and near the pond of Treustet and the wash house. The cover of its bell tower seems to be a source of trouble: it is necessary to wait the second half of the twentieth century for it to be carried out. Indeed, the church had until 1996 the particularity of not having a bell tower; the interior is both spacious and intimate and houses a wooden pulpit carved representing the four Evangelists. The nave is dominated by the statue of Joan of Arc, dating from 1931 (500th anniversary of the death of the Saint). The stained glass window of Saint Martin has been renovated since 2003. A small church, but how curious is the ogival door under the porch, above which, in a sculpted frame, appear shapeless and scattered bas-reliefs where one guesses, among others, a small pietà, a medieval rider, other enigmatic symbols... Could it be the "apocalypse" according to Saint John? The 15th century sanctuary is rustic, interesting for its porch bell tower with a polygonal spire. The interior houses a 19th century painting of Christ on the Cross, donated by Napoleon III. The altar is decorated with five gilded statues of saints. In the cemetery surrounding the church, decorated with a sundial, we find the neglected grave, surrounded by oxidized grills, of Léonard, Antoine, Armand, d'Oro de Pontonx, Knight of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Louis, Mayor of Louer, born in Pontonx on November 7, 1773 and died in Louer on July 5, 1842.
