CAUTION: Here, the route is on small tarmac streets that are also accessible to local residents' motor vehicles. The route has significant inclines and gradients, making it inaccessible to people in handchairs.

This easy, breathtaking loop takes you through some of the Juridiction's finest estates. After the iconic Cité, the small roads take you to Château Haut-Sarpe, one of the oldest wine estates, and Château Faugère, where you can appreciate the modernist winery, built into the hillside by architect Mario Botta. There are plenty of opportunities to stop and appreciate the landscape of hillsides and vineyards that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you'd like to cycle from Saint-Emilion to Bordeaux, or vice versa, you can do so on the former railway line, which has been converted into a cycle path and named the Roger Lapébie Trail after the winner of the Tour de France in 1937. The 49km route has one main difficulty, a 4km climb between Branne and Guillac. (n°11-12).

By letters patent dated June 7, 1289, Edward I, King of England and of Aquitaine fixed the boundary between Saint- Emilion and Pomerol at the « Tailhayhat » stream, from which the château gets its name. Purchased in 1932 by Philippe Nebout, the estate has been run by a company created by the Nebout heirs since 1981. Luc is the current winemaker and belongs to the 3rd Nebout generation at Tailhas. The Château du Tailhas vineyard covers 11 hectares in a single unit located on the southern slopes of the Pomerol plateau, bordering on the commune of Saint-Emilion to the east. It is therefore contiguous to the grands crus of that appellation, in the Figeac region. The siliceous soil mixed with fine gravel lies over a subsoil rich in sandstone with iron deposits (« crasse de fer »). Planted with Merlot (80%), Cabernet- Franc (10%) and Cabernet- Sauvignon (10%).

In Pomerol, Château Beauregard is a flagship from the smallest appellation of the great wines of Bordeaux. A Gironde charterhouse in bloom awaits you in the north-east of the village near Libourne. Created in the 11th century by the Knights of Malta, the Château was reborn in the 1990s after being bought by private investors. Come and share this new impetus in a property with refined charm. Renovation of the vineyard and cellars, plantations, soil drainage: the rehabilitation of Château Beauregard is now bearing fruit. At maturity, the grapes are picked by hand and stored in small 30 kilo crates to respect the integrity of each berry. The moment of tasting is a sweet privilege in front of the lotus flowers and water lilies that dress the moat of Château Beauregard.

Château La Rose Pourret is certified organic and produces an elegant, expressive red wine in the Saint Emilion Grand Cru appellation. Following extensive renovation work, the estate now welcomes visitors in a charming setting, in the heart of the vineyards and at the gateway to the medieval town of Saint-Émilion. You can also stay in a forest cabin in the middle of the vines. Le Comptoir de La Rose, our wine bar, is open from March to November. Traces of ancient agriculture

A family property for over 4 centuries, Château Coutet is magnificently situated at the top of the limestone plateau. One of Saint-Emilion's historic growths. The estate is still farmed organically.

Château Cravignac is a very old property which markets its wines under the brand name Château La Fleur Cravignac because it takes its name from its illustrious owner, Jean Batiste Lavau de Cravignac, mayor of Saint-Emilion from 1730 to 1752 and parliamentary lawyer. Since then, this property has been passed down from generation to generation, and at the beginning of the century, Château La Fleur Cravignac became the official wine of the National Assembly. It was the favorite wine of Raymond Poincaré, President of the French Republic. In 2021, the Count and Countess of Colbert bought the property from the Beaupertuis heirs. The vineyard extends over 7Ha 84 and is located on the North West plateau of Saint Emilion, the soil is of siliceous clay and calcareous clay texture.

This is the birthplace of the Moueix family in the Libourne region, and you will see that nothing is left undone at Fonroque to ensure that its fine claylimestone terroir gives of its best. The château has been a family concern since 1931 and the estate covers 22 hectares, with an 18th-century wine storehouse and renovated wine-tasting room at its centre. After describing the varieties of soils and how they work, we will tell you how we run the estate, which is certified as being organically and biodynamically farmed.

1er Grand Cru Classé A - Famille de Bouärd - Closed to the public The estate owes its name to the location of the vineyard, from where the winegrowers could hear the Angelus bells of the three surrounding churches: the chapel of Mazerat, the church of Saint-Martin-de-Mazerat and that of Saint-Émilion. Owned by the Boüard de Laforest family since the end of the 18th century, the estate has gradually expanded and is currently managed by Mr Hubert de Bouärd de Laforest.

Listed as a historic monument since 1920. This small Romanesque Latin cross church was built at the end of the 11th and beginning of the 12th centuries, and only became part of the parish of Saint-Emilion after the French Revolution in 1790. In the 16th century, the top floor of the church tower was demolished by the jurats of Saint Emilion to prevent the Protestants from using it as a fortress at the entrance to the predominantly Catholic town, and restored in 1975.
