Between two bodies of water, where you will discover an extraordinary natural environment. Beautiful natural features, unique to the Rhineland, can still be seen all along the river Rhine. This nature trail will take you through forests and fields to show you natural resurgences.

This area with its many natural riches and preserved environments will appeal to anyone who strays for a moment from the usual Alsace itineraries. The term Ried means rush (reed). By extension, "Ried" applies to landscapes of flood-prone meadows and forests with lush vegetation. Discover the nature reserves, "giessen" (water springs) and "brunnwasser" (water rivers) as well as the flowery villages to immerse yourself in the heritage of the Ried. You can also cross the Rhine on the cross-border ferry to Europa Park, one of the largest amusement parks in Europe, for an exciting trip.

Come and take the ferry to Rhinau and lose yourself while wandering through the magnificent exotic gardens of the Taubergiessen. Its in Rhinau, this colourful jungle is situated on German territory. One of a kind in Europe! After taking in these marvellous trails, continue your stroll by crossing the bridge at Weisweil until you reach the Ile de Rhinau on the French side. The frequent Rhine floods give the heavily protected natural environment a fascinating array of flora and fauna. When you've completed your walk, branch off towards Diebolsheim (which won a rating of 4 flowers in the French National Towns and Villages in Bloom competition) to discover the enchanting traditional architecture, with more flowers than you could find anywhere else. The Ried will delight your senses!

Drive along the Rhine dam from Wyhl to Weisweil via the Rhinau dam to the reservoir. After 3 kilometers on the RD20, you can take the free ferry across the Rhine to the German side of the river. You'll pass through the Taubergiessen nature reserve via Rust - Rheinhausen - Weisweil - Forchheim back to Endingen.

Canoeists, whether canoeing for sport or for fun, should be particularly respectful of their natural aquatic surroundings and the wildlife there, and take care to live in harmony with other water users. The river is a fragile ecosystem where life is both highly active and extremely fascinating. If you wish to take a canoe trip, always wear a lifevest and ask local canoe associations for more information.

Many traces of the Maginot Line can still be found at Boofzheim. In particular, you can see a bunker which served as a Command Post; infantry and engineering bunkers; a bomb shelter; and a machine-gun post. A 2.5-kilometre trail will show you all about the everyday life of our heroes in the Battle of the Rhine. Remember to bring a torch for the tour of the bunker.

This section of the Rhine-Rhône Canal is navigable for 38 km from Strasbourg to Rhinau. For cyclists, the towpath leads beyond this point through the Ried plain to Artzenheim. It leads through changing landscapes with meadows, groves and fields and offers beautiful views of the Vosges and the Black Forest. The centuries-old plane trees and their foliage protect the cyclists from the heat of the Alsatian sun.

Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

A great adventure for the youngest, a change of scenery for the oldest, the ferry is an original experience to cross the Rhine. In just a few minutes you are in Germany.  Accessible to cyclists, pedestrians and all vehicles < 3.5 tons, with a capacity of 30 light vehicles and 170 passengers. It makes a shuttle every 15 minutes. Free of charge all year round. The ferry Rhénanus will join the Freistett shipyard for routine maintenance and modernization of its equipment on Monday 24 February with a planned return on Wednesday 20 May 2020. In a 6-acre natural garden, many different plants are grown in squares, in a vegetable garden and in a vegetable hill where vegetables and flowers thrive together on a mulch mat. The owner, a natural garden guide, welcomes you to the garden at the end of Rue de la Digue in Rhinau.

Commissioned in 1963, the hydroelectric development of Rhinau has technical characteristics very similar the one of Marckolsheim (4 turbine groups of 150 MW). A panoramic footbridge on the left of the plant offers a view of an engine room, free access every day except the week-end from 8 am to 7 pm from May to September and from 8 am to 5 pm from October to April. 2 lock locks and a dam complete the layout.

The Saint-Denis de Gerstheim Catholic Church is a magnificent example of "resurrection" that has been able to draw on the roots of the past to rise from the ashes by anchoring itself in the present and turning to the future ... Indeed, one morning of November 26, 2011, following an electric short circuit, the church consumed by the flames during most of the night, is no more than a field of ruins that observes dismayed the inhabitants of the village; it remains the walls of the water, the bell tower and the facade licked by the flames! Quickly, thanks to the determination of the municipality and the factory council (and the budget allocated by the insurance), the construction site of the reconstruction was able to start; Renowned regional artists and artisans took turns reliving in 2 years a place of worship in which the tradition nowadays combines contemporary creation and modernity, while keeping the original church plan erected in 1869 on the same site of a 16th century church where the simultaneum was practiced ("mixed" church that welcomes both Catholics and Protestants after the attachment of Alsace to France by Louis XIV.) The population at this time is mostly Protestant because the lord of the village had opted for the Reformation around 1546 ... In order to fit into the continuity of the past, the angles of this church were symbolized by a pink marble layout in the current floor (Croatia stone). Inside, traditional art and contemporary art are perfectly adapted to each other, and are an invitation to meditation and contemplation. It will include stained glass windows by the artist Sylvie LANDER, inspired by Matthias Grünewald's famous Issenheim Altarpiece, or the spectacular mosaics by Gérard BRAND.

Built in 1883, this chapel is situated in a natural, rural setting, near the springs of the same name where St. Materne baptised Alsace's first Christians.
