Its Louis XIII-inspired architecture in brick and stone echoes the facades of the semicircular square on which it opens. The decorative richness of the reception rooms illustrates the importance of the functions of a representative of the State in the 19th century.

The art deco style of the architecture and the rigorous design of the façade reflect the presence of the Protestant "institution".

A stopover on the way to Compostela since the 12th century, the church of Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand is located south of Poitiers, not far from the Parc de Blossac. Rebuilt in the 19th century, it retains the original massive pillars in the nave, a choir and an ambulatory from the Romanesque period. It stands on the presumed site of the tomb of Saint-Hilaire, the first bishop of Poitiers. After admiring its four-apse chevet, you enter to discover its choir and its Romanesque transept of impressive height and great luminosity. You linger in its four chapels decorated with Romanesque wall paintings (11th century) representing a scene from the Apocalypse. And to learn more about Saint-Hilaire, you look at the capital dedicated to his death and the small crypt called confession, which houses his relics.

The church was rebuilt in the 15th century and has a rather unusual shape: a large rectangular hall with a double Gothic nave. Each choir has a beautiful baroque altarpiece.

Poitiers, an ancient fortified city, sits on a rocky spur. Several towers testify today to this rich medieval past. Surrounded by two rivers and as many green valleys, the historic center is locally nicknamed "the plateau". At the top of this vast promontory stand two of its most beautiful monuments, the palace of the Counts of Poitou and the church of Notre-Dame-la-Grande. Along the narrow streets, mansions from the Renaissance period mingle with timber-framed houses from the Middle Ages. The prefecture and the town hall are evidence of the Haussmannian style of the 19th century. As for the two glass parallelepipeds that you can see, shining with a thousand yellows, on the west side, they house the shows of the Théâtre Auditorium de Poitiers (TAP) all year round. The city known as "the city of a hundred steeples" is erudite, cultural, festive, and a place for the arts

Terraced over the Clain valley, the Parc de Blossac is one of the most beautiful public spaces in France. Designed in the 18th century, different gardens are available for a visit full of surprises: French and English gardens, light and shade garden, the Grand Pré, the rock garden and the zoological park.

The building, of Renaissance inspiration, is distinguished by a U-shaped plan, a well-paced façade, flanked by side pavilions and a main door surmounted by a loggia, a clock and the campanile. Inside, the vestibule opens onto a monumental staircase reminiscent of that of the Garnier opera house and stages the visitor's ascent to the loggia. From this balcony, he can see and be seen? Thus, the shape of the building has as much social significance as its decoration. Two large canvases by Puvis de Chavannes (1874) are the centerpieces of an abundant sculpted and painted decoration, dedicated to the history of Poitou: the battle of Charles Martel and Saint Fortunat reading poems to Saint Radegonde at the Sainte Croix Abbey. In the main hall, the former ballroom, the stained glass window, the work of Steinheil, represents Eleanor of Aquitaine confirming the charter of the commune in 1199.

Representative of the classical style, the main facade has a Doric colossal order (an architectural order reigning over several levels), surmounted by an entablature (a band crowning a facade) and a pediment. The chapel houses in its choir a magnificent altarpiece made in 1609 and a tabernacle in marquetry. Paintings decorate the vault of the choir and its entrance. The sacristy is furnished with furniture where the sacred vessels, the priestly vestments, the objects necessary for worship, the registers and where the celebrants and the clergy put on and take off the vestments and liturgical clothes. It is decorated with a remarkable set of carved woodwork, loaded with religious monograms and monarchic emblems. The Saint-Louis Chapel regularly hosts exhibitions that highlight its beauty.
