The first municipal school was founded in 1831 and, well before the rest of France, it was attended by both boys and girls. The spatial extension and the very rapid increase in population following industrial development determined the establishment of schools in the neighbourhoods. The German annexation of 1871, which made school compulsory, accelerated the process. Schools were moved into old buildings or were built specifically to meet the requirements of hygiene and aesthetic education from the beginning of the 20th century onwards. The start is made on rue des Franciscains.

Before starting this tour, please understand that street art is an ephemeral art form and that some of the works may no longer be here. This circular route runs successively along the Nouveau Bassin, the Canal de Jonction and the Canal du Rhône au Rhin, before crossing the Nordfeld district. Departure and arrival are at the southern end of the Nouveau Bassin (tram N°2, stop Nordfeld-Filature).

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, employers, mutual credit unions and municipalities tried to provide the poor part of the population with healthy and moralising housing. It was first of all the employers' initiative, via the Société Mulhousienne des Cités Ouvrières (SOMCO), which in 1853 gave birth to a workers' housing estate unique in Europe for its precocity, innovation in the form of buildings and the possibility of home ownership. At the end of the 19th century, it was the mutual credit unions (workers' and Catholic) that brought about the flowering of similar housing in the city (ground floor, two storeys and attic space: the R+2+C), a model taken up by developer-builders such as Buhler. However, it was the municipality that became the main player from the 1870s onwards. In the inter-war period, the socialists in power developed the public or semi-public response to poor housing, by intervening in various districts (Drouot, Haut Poirier, etc.), then, after the Second World War, by building small collectives (Wagner and Sellier housing estates), which preceded one of the first ZUPs in France, that of Les Coteaux. This walk runs along both sides of the banks of the Ill, Alsace's main river (238 km), which rises in Winkel (Alsatian Jura) and flows into the Rhine north of Strasbourg after passing through the Sundgau, Mulhouse, Colmar and Selestat. Departure is from the Passerelle de l'Ill on the west side, near the Maison des berges.

This semi-urban, semi-rural route crosses both the western part of the Dornach-Mer Rouge district and the Doller plain between Morschwiller and Lutterbach. The return journey takes a few minutes by tram 3 or the tram-train.

Departing from Lausanne, head to the medieval town of Gruyères, home to the famous Swiss cheese!  Leave Lausanne by bus and climb up into the alpine pastures to reach Gruyères.  After a tour around the town, your guide will take you to a Swiss chocolate factory to show you how famous Swiss chocolate is made.  Then head to an old alpine cheese factory. Enjoy a Swiss cheese tasting and learn more about the national dish: fondue.  Learn to make your own Swiss fondue and try the traditional dish.  After your meal, relax and climb on board the Golden Express, a panoramic train which crosses the alpine pastures and the heights of Lake Geneva. Enjoy incredible views of the lake and the Alps. When you get off the train, get back on your bus and head to Lavaux and its terraced vineyards. The artist William likes to use this Delft blue (which is associated with porcelain), but above all she wanted to show that despite the cracks in life, one must keep moving forward.

Built in the 16th century, this building was the presbytery of the former Church of Saint Stephen until the reform in 1528. From a Latin school from 1550 to the end of the 18th century, it became a college and then a school. It now houses the Centre d’Interprétation de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine as part of the label Ville d’Art et d’Histoire, better known as the Maison du Patrimoine Edouard Boeglin.

Born in Mulhouse in 1725, Jean-Henri Lambert was one of the most famous scientists of his time, the "Age of Enlightenment". Astronomer, physicist, philosopher and mathematician, we owe him the cartographic projection and the theorem in astronomy, both of which bear his name. His work now allows you to discover the city by geolocation!

In 1778, Simon Vogel, a Mulhouse merchant, acquired this building on the site of the city’s first hospital to build his mansion. From 1866 to 1870, the building housed the Sub-Prefecture and then the Kreisdirektion, its German equivalent, until 1882. Since then, it has housed shops.

This temple was built between 1858 and 1868 on the site of a 12th century church. Its plans are due to Jean-Baptiste Schacre, in a neo-gothic style then very fashionable. It still houses the magnificent stained glass windows that were in this former church. These are among the most beautiful in the Upper Rhine. Located on the Place de la Réunion, the Temple Saint-Etienne is also a cultural centre in the heart of the city with its concerts, exhibitions and events, especially during the Christmas period.

In late Renaissance style, the house has been listed since 1464 and was completely rebuilt in 1634. It is the oldest pharmacy in France still in activity (since 1649). Its painted ceilings date from the second half of the 17th century and the pharmacy’s furniture, from the Charles X period, is very well preserved.

Kesa was a graffiti artist for a long time before doing urban collage. Passionate about vinyl, one evening he decided to heat one up with a hairdryer. Seeing that the record becomes soft (and therefore modular), he comes up with several ideas and creates new works (today, he no longer uses the hair dryer). Thus, inspired by music, he creates his own world surrounded by birds and other street animals (birds, cats, mice, rats...).

Located next to the M.U.R., another wall catches our eye. This work by Pierre Fraenkel is a public commission from the city of Mulhouse. Pierre Frankael is an artist known for his messages and puns painted (or projected) in the public space including free billboards.

In the story Hansel and Gretel, the witch's hut is the gingerbread house! To live a unique moment in this cabin, go to Camping des Castors. The cabin, these furniture and the beds were handmade with Vosges wood. The hut was built in the image of the witch, that is to say, a single large room arranged and thought to spend an unusual stay. At your disposal, a kitchenette, with a table and stool for the meal. A double bed and a loft bed for a child. The toilets are in common and are 20 m from the cabin.

This campsite is located in a great natural area near the river and the forest. It's a family campsite very welcoming. You can swim in a natural lake and fish in a pond inside the campsite. Different accommodations exist : mobil-homes, wood chalets, log chalets.. and also some unusual accommadation such as suspended or floating huts.

In the Hansel and Gretel story, the Logger's Hut is the home of Hansel and Gretel's parents. To live a unique moment in this cabin, go to Camping des Castors. The cabin, furniture and beds were handmade with Vosges wood. Kitchenette, dining area and three corners bedrooms. The rooms are equipped with a double bed separated by partitions and curtains, and two bunk beds. A covered walk allows you to enjoy the outdoors and eat in the shelter on the terrace. The toilets are in common and are 20 m from the cabin. Outside, you will find at your disposal a stone oven and a picnic area sheltered to share in common.
