Le Domaine de l'Auspeliere: Nature and Adventure in Greolieres

20 km of bird’s flight separate the summit (1,778 m) from the Mediterranean. This exceptional situation offers a sumptuous panorama! From the Faisse car park, take the D2 road to reach the marker 30 marking the start of the trail. 1- Take the GR®4 to an intersection marked by the marker 193. 2- Turn left, cross the bars of Cheiron and reach the beacon 194.3- Engage full east in this open landscape and follow the crests of Cheiron. When the ski lifts appear, the peak of Cheiron will not be very far. 4- The return is made by the same itinerary.

The 2nd stage of the weekend in Entrevaux country takes you back to Entrevaux via Ubac d'Amirat and the village of Castellet-Saint-Cassien.

Southern Bastion of the Pre-Alps, the Montagne de l'Audibergue presents itself as an interminable east-west rampart. From the Parc de la Moulière climb up to the end of the chairlift by the green slope of the Marcassin. 1- Bypass a slope on the right and join the orientation table on the nearby ridge. 2- Cross the ridge on the trail (PR marking), to the top of the Audibergue (1,642m) 3- Go north, under the ski lifts to find the beacon 173. 4- Take the trail (PR marking) towards Parc de la Moulière and easily reach the parking lot via the 174 beacon.

A mountain bike ride to share with family in a wild nature on the Briasq trail that will take you to a lookout post with an exceptional view. Back to the car park, turn right on a small paved road, cross the village of Escragnolles before joining the Colette car park 750 m further. 1- Take the Briasq Forest Trail in a southerly direction to Beacon 85 (PR). 2- Turn right on a stony track. Continue for 250 m. 3- Leave it to take a left at a barrier D.F.C.I. and continue for 1.5 km to the forked intersection Turn left and go to the point of view of Baou Mourine where is watchtower established. 4- Make the return by the same route.

Very varied course, open to all, located in the heart of the national forest that covers the Tracastel mountain. From the church square of Saint-Auban, join the beacon 1 in the heart of the village. 1- Continue on the left, continue climbing stairs, rue Tracastel. Take the path (PR) which climbs in laces. Continue 200 m after climbing the break to the next intersection (beacon 2) 2- Turn off on your left as indicated to continue on the Tracastel circuit until a crossroads 1.5 km further.. 3- Take the path below and continue 2.7 km slightly downhill to find the Departmental Road numbered 2211. 4- Engage on the road and continue along the clue of Saint-Auban until finding the beacon 6. 5- Approach the path on the right that goes back to the heart of the village.

In the foothills of the Gourdan mountain, you can discover the small Saint Saturnin chapel and a magnificent panoramic view of the Chanan valley, the mountains of Miolans, Cheiron and Mount Vial.

A forest walk through the little Siberia of the Southern Alps.

The path overhangs and then crosses the Besseuges stream, which marked the ancient border between Provence and the County of Nice, and then you reach the end of the world.

Departing from the former Mairie in Montblanc, this loop takes in the upper Chalvagne valley and the Pic de Chamatte in the distance. A forest atmosphere is present throughout the hike. From the hamlet of Montblanc, follow the asphalt road east downhill for 1.3 km. Shortly after a wooden cross, at a small house and a small bridge, come to a crossroads. At Les Cognas, leave the road and turn right to cross the bridge over the Chalvagne and climb upwards through the pine forest. The path rises through the forest, comes out on a ridge which it follows for a while and passes over a collet. Once past this point, take the path on the left at the edge of the slope, gain a croup, then enter the wood after a bend to the left. The path then climbs steadily up to a track near the Col du Buis. At the Col du Buis, take the uphill track to the right, cross a fence and continue on the other side to the end of the track, 2.5 km further on. Continue straight ahead on a path that descends to a crossroads at the level of a ruin. At Serre Mallet, go right down to the bottom of the ravine, cross it, climb the other side, cross a ridge and go down to another ravine. Cross it to skirt a meadow and emerge on a tarmac road. Follow it to the right as you descend to the starting point.

Another itinerary takes you to Chapelle Saint Jean du Désert. Right from the start, you can discover the Château de Villevieille, then follow a ridge line to admire the panoramic view over the Ubraye valley and the Bernarde summit.

The Barri Cross marks the first step of this route. Located at an altitude of 1350 m, it overlooks the Gréolières village, a first point of view to appreciate a moment and take the time to contemplate the Wolf valley and the beautiful village of Cipières in the distance.

Seeming to defy the imposing mountains of the Cheiron massif, this pretty village, built on a small plateau halfway up the escarpment, dominates the entire the Wolf valley. During its history, the Gréolières economy was mainly linked to agricultural activities. Now beekeepers and farmers are developing quality products.

Cited for the first time in 1312, this chapel is built to serve the parish church at the Hautes Gréolières castrum. The apse in cul-de-four is built from the creation of the castrum, but the nave is only raised at the end of the 13th century; it has four vaulted spans in broken cradle.

This castle built around 1230 under the order of the Count of Provence, is in the form of a polygonal enclosure pierced with loopholes, which is kept on three sides and which closes a rock platform. During the civil wars that marked this region, the castle was besieged. After this period, the enclosure is partially reinforced by false pitch. A new access ramp is located to the south-east.

The Griffon Vulture is one of the largest raptors in France that can reach nearly 3 m wingspan for a weight of 6 to 7 kg. Like all scavengers, vultures recycle corpses and thus participate in the great life cycle. If luck is with you, you will be able to see it at Cheiron's summit.

The Cheiron summit offers an exceptional panorama. To the south we discover the Côte d'Azur from Cap Camarat (Saint-Tropez) to Mont Agel (Monaco) passing the Lérins Islands. In the north, the peaks bordering the Italian border are identified from Menton to Haute Tinée. With a little luck, we can see the mountains of Corsica off the Mediterranean..

The Fritillary of the Dauphiné or Fritillaria tubiformis is a rare and protected plant. It gives a large reddish purple flower and grows in small colony on limestone soil in meadows up to an altitude of 2,000m. It flowers from April to July.

The arrival at the summit offers a unique panorama at 360° revealing the French Riviera, Var, Esterel and Alps mountain range in the distance.

A meteorite of 625kg was discovered in the 17th century on the summit of the Audibergue. This stone is composed of 90.9% iron and 9.1% nickel. In 1828, it was recognized by scientists who carried it to the Natural History Museum in Paris. Today a moulding made of its original look is exhibited in the Town hall of Caille.
