In the heart of Lille, the Palais des Beaux-Arts stands out behind a magnificent fountain with water jets from which springs Eugène Dodeigne's famous "Group of Three" sculpture. It houses the richest collection in France after that of the Louvre, in a sumptuous setting of characteristic 19th-century architecture. It includes French and European paintings (Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, Delacroix, etc.), sculptures (Rodin, Claudel, Carpeaux, etc.), ceramics, and other media such as a large cabinet of drawings (including 40 sheets by Raphael) and relief plans of towns in the region, fortified by Vauban in the 17th century. In 1997, renovation work was carried out in the basement, creating a room for temporary international exhibitions, an auditorium, a library and educational workshops.

A symbol of the freedom of the cities of the North, the building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lille's belfry is 104 metres high and offers a breathtaking view of the whole city. With its late 19th century architecture, the Natural History Museum has become a must-see. It offers permanent and temporary exhibitions throughout the year, as well as workshops and evening events for young and old alike, promoting a rich and varied cultural heritage. Skeletons of sperm whales, whales and rorqual whales float above visitors, suspended from the magnificent beams of the main gallery, while on the floor, animal scenes illustrate the richness and great diversity of species.

[Since 2 April 2024, the Museum has closed its doors to the public in order to accommodate a vast renovation and expansion project]. Behind this facade with its many architectural influences, discover works of taxidermy and other relics of the evolution of the Earth and its inhabitants. Among them are life-size reproductions of dinosaurs, impressive skeletons of land and sea animals, and a rich collection of insects, birds and mammals, including a polar bear, considered one of the museum's centrepieces and whose presence evokes current environmental issues. The geology area will take you back 600 million years to the present day, revealing what the North of France was like then and tracing its evolution to the present day. In addition to this vast permanent collection, the Natural History Museum offers temporary exhibitions, workshops and themed evenings for young and old all year round.

Located in the heart of Old Lille, the museum is housed in the hospital founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre, which did not close until 1939. The current buildings date from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. They consist of a paneled barrel-vaulted patients' ward, a chapel decorated with the coats of arms of the hospital's main benefactors, and the Augustinian sisters' community buildings arranged around two courtyards and a medicinal garden. Since 1962, they have been used as a showcase for paintings, tapestries, carved wood, furniture and earthenware from the region, evoking the interior of a 17th-century Flemish religious house.

Built in the 1950s to sort the city's mail, then converted into a cultural venue for Lille 2004, European Capital of Culture, the Tripostal has become a major space for contemporary creation. While not an art centre or museum, it is a place for art and life, located in the heart of the city, between Lille Flandres and Lille Europe stations. It has three floors, each measuring 2,000 m², giving it excellent scenographic flexibility. It's also a place for performance and celebration, with a children's area and catering facilities.

Opened in March 2009 to coincide with Europe XXL, the Gare Saint Sauveur, formerly a goods station, has been renovated by the City of Lille to offer cultural events and leisure facilities throughout the year, as well as a bar-restaurant and an urban farm with seasonal activities.

Combining art and science, history and modernity, new technologies and poetry, the Institut Pasteur museum in Lille is an undeniable source of scientific mediation, particularly for young people, teenagers and children. Stimulating interest in science, research and health is a major concern of the Institut Pasteur de Lille.

Charles de Gaulle was born at 9 rue Princesse in Lille, in the home of his maternal grandparents, on 22 November 1890. This house was the family reunion point throughout his childhood and youth. It was within these walls, in a family united by patriotic and religious values, that the character of the future President of the Fifth Republic was forged. In 2020, the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle underwent major renovation work. The aim of the work was to reinforce the structure of the house, but it also enabled it to be completely renovated and refurnished. Rooms that had fallen into oblivion have been restored and are being shown to the public for the first time. Listed as a historic monument and awarded the Maison des Illustres label, the house has been restored to look very much as the young Charles knew it. It is the only example in Lille of what a middle-class home looked like in the Belle Époque. In addition to visits to the historical part of the site, the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle also offers regular temporary exhibitions, lectures and educational workshops. In addition, there are two walking routes in 13 stages, marked by a nail in the ground bearing the general's effigy. The route can be started at any stage. There is no chronological order either. Maps of the route are available from the Maison natale Charles de Gaulle and the Lille Tourist Office, together with explanations, anecdotes and family memories of each stage. Length of circuits: 6.3 km and 4.4 km.
