From the promontory village of Penne, you will descend into the valley of the Boudouyssou before climbing the hill of the castle of Noaillac and covering the whole length of the St-Michel plateau.

This circuit is one of the most demanding in the department. From the bottom of the narrow valleys, the paths go straight on the steep pechs. However, some passages on long plateaus offer resting places and shaded areas, which are appreciated in summer. The origin of the place names around Penne testifies to a rich historical past, Gallic, Roman, Germanic, linked to the activities, the nature of the soil, the fauna or the flora. You will discover along this route an interesting built heritage with in particular, the Roman bridge, the pretty village of Penne-d'Agenais and the church Notre Dame de Peyragudes, of Roman-Byzantine style, with a Greek cross plan. It is a place of pilgrimage and a stopover on the roads leading to Santiago de Compostela.

From Penne d'Agenais to Pujols, the Compostelle du Puy route via Rocamadour climbs the slopes of the Pays de Serres, above the Lot valley. Hikers thus reach a village of character and one of the most beautiful in France.

From the Penne d?Agenais train station, this route takes you through the five villages and bastides listed among the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" in Lot-et-Garonne: Penne d?Agenais, Tournon d?Agenais, Villeréal, Monflanquin and Pujols. Bonus: a visit to the castles of Bonaguil and Gavaudun. The route takes you along steep, bucolic roads with surprising panoramas. The rugged profile reflects the different landscapes you pass through: the Pays de Serres with its Quercy influences, the Val Lémance, the Collines de Guyenne, and finally the Lot Valley. A great challenge to (re)discover this unique heritage.

Horses and ponies live on this itinerary, located not far from the bastide town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot. A succession of openings are offered to the eye on the strongholds and bastides of the surroundings, Saint-Pastour, Castelnaud-de-Gratecambe, Monflanquin, the castle of Biron, Penne-d'Agenais...

After the only real steep climb at the beginning, the route then takes place on a cultivated plateau, surrounded by woods. The descent, around the round and wooded pech de la Citerne, from which emerges the ruin of a tower, will lead you to the Boudouyssou valley.

This little nature loop is hidden in the steep hills of the Pays de Serres, on the left bank of the Lot. A wooded strip hides the valley, offering calm and relaxation to the residents and to the walkers and pilgrims who walk towards Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.

The pilgrims of St. James walk on a part of this circuit coming from Puy-en-Velay, via Figeac and Rocamadour. In the rugged terrain, the view is far towards the Lot valley.
