The chapel was built in 1679. Demolished during the same year amid disputes relating to pastureland boundaries, it was rebuilt in 1986, exactly as it was, and becomes a pilrimage venue every September. The story behind this chapel goes as far back as 1313, when the villages of Les Gets, Taninges and Samoêns decided to define the boundaries of their respective territories. On the fringes of the Loex plateau, there was disagreement over an area of land known as the "Sax de Jacquiert Curt" which was claimed by all 3 villages. That was the start of a legal battle which lasted... 366 years! In 1679 the court ruling placed the village boundaries in the middle of the famous parcel. Thinking the dispute was settled, the village of Les Gets decided to build a chapel on the part that fell within its territory and a mason from Samoëns began the construction work in June 1679. During the night between 14th and 15th August of that same year, the chapel, close to completion, was demolished by disputers who have never been identified. The chapel's remains were discovered in the sixties by National Forestry officers, following which, the mayors of Les Gets, Taninges and Verchaix suggested the chapel be rebuilt. The population rallied around and the current chapel of Jacquicourt was built between 1986 and 1989 on the foundations of the 1679 version, thus bringing a 600-year conflict to its conclusion.

A slate-quarry worker welcomes you into his workshop to present the history of Morzine's 200-years old slate industry and demonstrates his modern work-techniques. One of the last slate quarries in France, with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, we perpetuate this ancestral activity while innovating in extraction and working methods, and offering traditional and fashionable products for roofing, interior and exterior fittings.

At the heart of the alpine Graydon pasture, under the hardened eye of the majestic roc d’enfer, you find the little Graydon chapel. It was built in 1859 and then entirely renovated in 2009 The Graydon chapel constructed in 1859, allowed for the parishes of ST Jean d’Aulps and that of Essert Romand, separated a few years earlier to keep a certain link between them. It was in 1902 that the Swiss architect, Goss, constructed the entrance porche where two Capitals where added that came from the Aulps Abbey. The chapel in consecrated to the immaculate conception is today a place of celebrations and all through the summer season the parish celebrates a mass every Wednesday You can get there from Essert Romand or from the little hamlet called Valette at St Jean d’Aulps

At the foot of the Roc d'Enfer mountains, this hollow coomb is a huge Alpine pasture, surrounded by stunning, steep cliffs. The Graydon chapel and surrounding chalets offer a genuine and peaceful glimpse of a mountain way of life. Located at 1340m and rising to 2243m, the Graydon meadows are easily accessible by car in summer from Essert-Romand. Graydon is the starting point for many walks including the Roc d'Enfer tour, a delightful route that winds through Alpine meadows, offering a glimpse of marmottes and deer. This circuit has superb panoramas of the Aravis mountains, the Roc d'Enfer and the Mt Blanc range. Visitors who wish to learn more about the chapel are invited to go in. It dates from the 19th century but was recently restored, providing a place to sit quietly and recharge your batteries. It hosts several services throughout the warmer months.

This autumn, come and enjoy the beautiful autumn colors and a fine meal of game. This winter, the ascent will be groomed and you'll be able to access the refuge on snowshoes or cross-country skis.

However, if you only reserve one tent, the second tent may be occupied by another group at the same time as you. Equipment available for each tent: 5 inflatable mattresses or 5 single camp beds with disposable protective covers, 1 battery-operated camping lamp, 1 outdoor metal storage trunk, 1 20L water container.
