From the car park, go along the cemetery and continue on the Chemin de Bessurane (GR®51) until the Saint-Claude chapel. 1- Take a sharp left on a paved road and then engage immediately left on the trail that rises abruptly. Go along the fences and through a woodland until an intersection. 2- At the sign-post 302, take the right path that leads to the Canal du Loup. Walk on the mountainside on a large platform and cross the small bridge of the Gourdon valley. Remain on the flat area and come out on the Chemin du Paradis. 3- Follow it to the left (GR®51). Reach the Foulon aqueduct, then climb many aery switchbacks and reach Gourdon. 4- Visit the picturesque streets of the village, then go back down until the canal du Loup by the same route. In point 3, turn left and continue down the Chemin du Paradis. Come out on the road of the old railway. 5- Make a sharp right and return to Bar-sur-Loup. 1km further, take the Chemin des Fontaites to the right. And return to the car park of the cemetery.

Tanneron, Land of Mimosa! A pleasant one-and-a-half-hour walk around the village to discover the village and its panoramic views, surrounded by mimosa trees from January to March. This is the easternmost commune of the Pays de Fayence in the Var department and the one featuring the most mimosa flowers, with its abundant "yellow forests". This is the largest area in France planted with both cultivated and wild mimosa. Around 1880, the mimosa, originally from Australia, made its appearance on the Côte d'Azur. In 1964, running water arrived in the village of Tanneron. Clinging to hillsides planted with mimosa, strawberries, flowers, heather, olive trees, pines, chestnut trees and cork oaks, the commune of Tanneron is made up of 22 hamlets. The cultivation of mimosa throughout the Tanneron area is now one of the finest treasures of this charming commune. These fluffy, bright yellow, fragrant little balls are beautiful to see in their natural environment. Tanneron is located at km 112 of the Route du Mimosa. > STARTING POINT Free parking in the village of Tanneron - Hikers' car park or at the church. Departure: Tourist Office GPS coordinates: 43.590748, 6.875309 > ITINERARY A - Place de la Maire Panoramic view over the Alpes-Maritimes from Grasse to the Bay of Cannes. The square is home to a typical Provencal café dating from 1865. A little anecdote: Georges Clémenceau, MP for Var, is said to have stayed there in 1889! Opposite it, a water tank dating back to 1888 supplied the townspeople before water was pumped from the River Siagne in 1964. Behind the town hall, you can admire a pretty square and its fountain, renovated in 1997. Cross the square in the direction of the war memorial, built in 1921, continue along the Chemin de la Grille and turn left into the Carreiros district. B - Carreiros district / A little history View over the Bay of Cannes and the Mediterranean Sea. Continue along a dirt track where you turn right around the Colle d'Embarque district to access the walk through the mimosa plantations. At the end of the path, rejoin the tarmac track and take the dirt track on the left, Touordam (towards the municipal stadium) as far as the junction with the DFCI track: Touordam. On the road leading to the stadium, turn right and continue along the dirt track. Follow the signposts on the track around the village towards Notre-Dame de Peygros. C - The church of Notre-Dame de Peygros The church is located at the top of the hill where the view takes in Lake Saint-Cassien, Mont-Lachens (1,714 metres), Grasse and the village of Tanneron. The small Peygros chapel, now a church, was enlarged by its inhabitants between 1839 and 1844. Everyone contributed to the renovation by making their own contribution. The chevet has a semicircular apse and the faade is flanked by the square bell tower with its two bells, financed by local residents. From the church, head towards the Hubert Rouaud school, built in 1972. At the junction with the D38, turn right towards the village. Continue on a wide stony path marked 27. 2- Go down slightly to the left on another track and continue on the marked stony path (PR) to go back on a grassland area. 3- fork to the right and get to the beacon 28. Then deviate slightly on the right via the beacon 29. Go back down a pebble road and join the small village of Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne through small paved roads.

A wild immersion between crystal clear waters, limestone cliffs and vestiges of the past. Estimated duration: 5 hours Markings: GPS Departure: Village of Escragnolles Starting from the village of Escragnolles, this hike begins with a technical descent marked to ‘dive’ towards the source of the Siagne de la Pare, a veritable haven of freshness hidden at the bottom of the valley. The effort then intensifies with the climb up to the Briasq plateau, a vast, unspoilt area. The trail then runs along the foothills of Baou Mourine, offering a magnificent panorama of the Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean in the distance. The return journey takes you through the hamlet of Rouyère, where the trail winds its way between the remains of old charcoal kilns, evidence of the pastoral and forestry activities of yesteryear. The loop ends gently at a place called La Colette before returning to the heart of the village.

Back to the car park, turn right on a small paved road, cross the village of Escragnolles before joining the Colette car park 750 m further. 1- Take the Briasq Forest Trail in a southerly direction to Beacon 85 (PR). 2- Turn right on a stony track. Continue for 250 m. 3- Leave it to take a left at a barrier D.F.C.I. and continue for 1.5 km to the forked intersection Turn left and go to the point of view of Baou Mourine where is watchtower established. 4- Make the return by the same route.

Located in one of the oldest houses in the historic center of Grasse, this perfumery offers the original creations of Didier Gaglewski, independent perfume designer. Didier Gaglewski was born in Grasse and thus instinctively “nose” the city’s historic trade of perfume composition. He first began presenting his creations at shows in Provence, then in Paris, Germany, and Switzerland. Both an artist and a craftsman, he decided to offer his aromatic art to the world on his own, believing that customers would value fragrances that embody quality, originality, and a fundamental respect for perfume composition, while representing the best of their inner and outer selves. Didier is an exacting creator and every one of his perfumes, crafted in the privacy of his own laboratory, requires several months of research. In partnership with Michelle Cavalier and "Le Jardin de la Bastide," Didier also remains very close to the world of flowers and treasures working on, with, and for the earth. His research to rediscover extraction techniques passed down through the generations and the perfume plants specific to this region is what makes his approach so very personal, so truly authentic. The fragrances from this singular designer are made here in the Grasse region, and Didier works extensively with natural raw materials in question to create equally uncommon, refined scents.

The Perfume Museum in Grasse exhibits some one hundred rare perfumery objects from antiquity to the present day. The collection is further enhanced by paintings of women grooming and Provencal furniture. History of a collection Located on the third floor of the Historical Fragonard Factory, the Perfume Museum was inaugurated in 1975. This was the very first perfume museum to open its doors in the town of Grasse: a particularly bold initiative at the time. To top off the manufacturing workshop tour experience, Jean-François Costa (the father of the current directors) wanted to offer his visitors the opportunity to see antique objects that tell the history of perfume from antiquity to the present day. Precious perfumery objects (Egyptian blush spoons, medieval pomanders, etc.) are showcased alongside paintings of women grooming and antique Provençal furniture.

The Charles Nègre Mediatheque is not only a center for culture and learning, but also for resources, leisure, experimentation and co-construction. Dedicated to the world of images and paying homage to the Grasse photographer of the same name, the Charles Nègre Media Library has 7 floors, 5 of which are open to the public, and offers themed areas giving free access to a variety of media. It offers a unique setting bathed in light in which to read, work, watch a film, listen to music, use a computer, visit an exhibition or meet up with friends over a coffee. This new cultural facility offers a varied collection of novels, comic books, art books, video games, DVDs and CDs/vinyl for children and adults. The engraved artwork depicts Charles Nègre (1820-1880), a painter and pioneer of photography born in the same neighborhood, now watching over the new media library of the same name. It resonates with the past and present in this resolutely contemporary. Icon of street art, international artist Vhils defines himself as a «contemporary urban archaeologist,» adorning the walls of major metropolises with his engraved portraits, delighted to give a second life to neglected places.

The carillon on Rue de l’Oratoire was installed in late summer 2012. It is comprised of twelve bells that chime every hour (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), playing the celebrated Provençal anthem “Se Canto.” At noon, it puts on a three-minute “mini-concert” for spectators. For this musical interlude, the bells play another famous tune from Provençal culture, “Coupo Santo.” The carillon is located on the square in front of the chapel on the Rue de l’Oratoire, a street noteworthy in its own right, as it has been home to many key religious, political, and economic figures. For example, it was in this chapel that, in 1791, Saint-Honorat Island, off the coast of Cannes, was sold at auction. In eras gone by, a very active free commune thrived along this street, as well. The carillon is yet another step taken toward revitalization of the old town and restoration of this busy shopping street.

The Maison du Patrimoine (Heritage Center) hosts exhibition spaces and educational workshops: essential and inseparable elements of heritage mediation, core business of the national network of Cities and Countries of Art and History (VPAH). You will also find the whole of the Pole Mediation (lecturers and administrative guides), the Inventory Pole (Research on movable heritage, monumental and intangible), a documentation center and a presentation of the VPAH network. One of the purposes of the Heritage House is to refer the public to other cultural and heritage sites of the territory, it is in this respect that you will be invited to visit Archives, Media libraries and Museums ... to complete your vision of Heritage from Grasse. Semi-permanent exhibition: Grasse élémentaire! The exhibition is a proposal for the interpretation of the heritage of the whole municipality of Grasse. Its lifespan will not exceed two years. It revolves around the Four Elements, and presents for these sections a link with a historical period and elements of the heritage of Grasse. Since the 17th century, the cathedral has been home to four gallery organs. The current organ is that of Frédéric Jungk, built in 1855, first played by Lefébure-Wely, organist at the Église de la Madeleine in Paris. After being dismantled in 1978 for a much-needed renovation, it was returned to its location above the main entrance in 1981. The instrument has two organ cases: that of the great organ, set back from the gallery, and that of the positive, projecting slightly, in the middle of a railing decorated with ten semi-balusters. Turrets and flats of the large organ’s case - compartments where the flue pipes are housed – are decorated with beautifully executed sculptures – Saint Cecilia, King David, and two elongated angels indicating a cross, with trilobate ends, inserted in the middle of the pointed arch pediment. A cherub adorns the central flat. The positive case consists of three flats separated by four semi-balusters: It was rebuilt when the instrument was enhanced in 1981. Technically, the Jungk organ was equipped with mechanical tracker action. In 1978, the instrument was entrusted to the Tamburini company, located in Crema in northern Italy’s Lombardy region, to be restored and enlarged. Significant changes were made, including the reinstallation of mechanical tracker action that was abandoned for pneumatic action in 1950, the addition of a positive, and an increase in the number of stops. It was first played on November 22, 1981, by Jean Wallet, official organist for the great organs of the Cathedral of Nice. Organ composition Three 54-note keyboards: positive, great organ, récit. A 40-note pedal board. Forty stops across the three keyboards and the pedal board.

The cathedral dates from the mid-13th century (the bishopric was transferred from Antibes to Grasse in 1244). The architecture is influenced by both Liguria and Lombardy (layout, decorative elements, vaulting). The main facade is simple and unassuming, reflecting the interior layout : a raised central nave and two side aisles. In the 18th century, a crypt was dug beneath the cathedral and the interior tiling and steps were redone. The central doorway became the sole entrance through the façade, reached by a double staircase, with a statue of the Virgin above it. The walnut doors were carved by two Grasse cabinetmakers, Deschamps and Raybaud. The Grasse cathedral houses many artifacts, some of which are listed as historic monuments : - St. Honorat, St. Clement, and St. Lambert, altarpiece attributed to the Louis Brea school. - Christ Crowned with Thorns, St. Helena, and The Crucifixion are works attributed to Peter Paul Rubens and his school. - Washing of the Feet painted by Jean-Honoré Fragonard in 1754 is one of the few religious works from this Grasse artist. - The nave’s monumental cross is an 1830 mission cross. - The organ dates from 1855 and was made by Toulouse organ-builder Jungk - The Death of Saint Paul the Hermit by Charles Nègre (Grasse artist) The cathedral has six stained-glass windows and four Baillet statues representing the four Evangelists : St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, and St. John. The former Bishop's Palace now serving as Grasse City Hall. A tufa tower constitutes the remains of the medieval bishop’s palace, a tower that first had a defensive role. It is connected by three pink-limestone bays to a quadrangular building in white limestone, which houses the palace itself, as well as a chapel. The entire structure was most likely built in the last quarter of the 13th century or in the 14th century. The tower is believed to date from the early 13th century. It was entered via the first floor by means of a removable ladder. The building has five levels: It lost its defensive crown, but we can recreate a deck of wooden slabs secured in the evenly spaced putlog holes at its top. The bishop’s palace consists of two long blocks of buildings parallel to the cathedral and articulated around an 18th-century staircase. The current building has two entrances: a main entrance to the south, passing under the arch between the cathedral and the palace, and an entrance to the northwest, below the tower, after the courtyard. This space is secured by a large gate bearing the city’s coat of arms and shelters a 19th-century wall fountain featuring an allegory of the city, the capital of perfume. The synod hall (which was the assembly hall for the diocese and now hosts the city council) is set above the tinel (the bishop’s dining room). It is lit to the north by double and triple bays. The south wall has lancet windows to let in the light. The substantial attention given these openings attests to this room’s importance within the bishop’s palace. The bishop’s chapel (now the city’s wedding chapel) can easily be distinguished from the outside, as this building is the most decorated of the episcopal group. The corbels of the small arches that run along the roof are all sculpted, bearing animal and human figures – and even the bishop himself! The chapel could be entered from either the west side or from the east through a door that used to access a wooden gallery, but now leads into empty space. These three tufa walls rest against the palace, blocking a lancet window. The chapel is vaulted with ridges supported by heavy limestone ribs curving down onto small, slender columns. This small building could be seen from the outside at the time of its construction, as evidenced by the west gable that can now be perceived when entering the offices on the top floor.

The result of years of historical and heritage research, this trompe-l’oeil painted mural showcases one of Grasse’s iconic perfume flowers: Jasmine. Now, in Grasse, one can admire the works of artist Laurent-Emmanuel Briffaud, based at the Center for Research and Cultural Development, whose role is to create connections around heritage and nature while juxtaposing contemporary art with the city’s history.

The Fragonard Museum, nestled in the heart of the old town next to the historic Fragonard factory, is dedicated to Grasse’s most famous son, painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and presents some 15 major works by this great artist.

A pleasant garden, bordering the International Perfume Museum at the entrance to the historic center of Grasse, Located at the foot of the wall of the city of Grasse, this garden was created in 1779 by Joseph Amable Arnouphle de Pontevès, the first owner of the site, and remodeled by the City in 1976. Pauline Bonaparte, Princess Borghese, tasted the charms of her geometrically patterned parterres, her pond, her orange trees and her rose bower during a stay in 1811, when she was the host of the Amic family. The garden of orange trees is to discover during the visit of the International Museum of Perfumery (MIP), unique museum in the world. Since 1989, the MIP has been the first public institution dedicated to the safeguarding and promotion of the world heritage of smells, aromas and fragrances.
