Camping Au Pont Du Dognon: Adventures Around Saint-laurent-les-eglises

A trail for experienced hikers that will make you discover beautiful panoramas and viewpoints on the Monts d'Ambazac. You will be able to admire the small built heritage: crosses, fountains, mills... A variant of 10.5 km will allow you to enjoy this trail.

This tour for experienced hikers begins by passing the prisoners' cross, a place of remembrance, then continues through undergrowth to join the forest track that leads to the village of Traspont. The slightly technical descent takes you to the pretty, unspoilt village of Noueix. Beforehand, you'll have admired a beautiful Limousin farmhouse. After a dry climb of 2 km, the rocky chaos of the "pierre branlante" (wobbly stone) is the highest point, with a splendid semi-circular view of over 50 km. The return journey is a leisurely one on wide paths through the forest, passing under the impressive jumps of the Singletraks Bike Park, where you're sure to come across downhill mountain bikers.

Discover the wonders of nature and history on the Loop du Seigneur in Saint-Martin-Terressus. Follow the Taurion and its tributary, the Ruisseau du Seigneur, and explore landscapes shaped by man over time. Discover evidence of past activities, such as mills, dams and timber rafting, which bear witness to the use of water power by local people. Admire the bridges and rural buildings constructed from the riches of the soil. Enjoy a view of the Monts d'Ambazac from La Texonnière. Finish your hike with a visit to the village, its church and the wooded park around the town hall. La boucle du Seigneur is an ideal hike for nature lovers and history buffs who want to discover the riches of the region.

Saint-Martin-Terressus is nestled on the edge of the Taurion valley and is well worth a visit. The loop of the castles invites you on an itinerary marked out by beautiful buildings whose existence one does not imagine. Villages and castles are on the programme for a 2.5 hour walk; it is possible to shorten the walk to 1.10 hours with a 4.4 km variant.

Explore the ruins of the Le Bost mill during a walk between woods and rivers in the preserved Taurion Valley. In the village of Bost, with your back turned to the inn, take the earth path on the left, just before the first house. At the small clearing, continue slightly to the left and take a very pleasant path that descends, overlooking the Parleur stream. When you arrive at the small wooden bridge over the Parleur, continue slightly to the left for about thirty metres and, after a bend to the left, follow the Taurion for 500 m. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead along the forest road that leads up to the village of La Sagne.  At the top of the forest road, turn left on the communal road, go through the village of La Sagne then, at the crossroads, turn left to the village of Le Bost. Go through it, and admire the beautiful old houses. At the end of the village, find the car park.

Discover the commune of St-Martin Terressus and the Taurion valley in 1h15. The Taurion valley is classified as a Natura 2000 zone; it is a natural area of fauna and flora interest which is worth a visit. The Parleur is a tributary stream of the Taurion.

Royères is located near Saint-Léonard de Noblat in the Monts et Barrages art and history region. You'll pass through typical Haute-Vienne villages such as La Mazière and Caux. Admire the collegiate church of Saint-Léonard de Noblat, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Much more demanding, this route is aimed at demanding trail runners who already have experience in the discipline. After a gentle start on a rolling road, the côte de Trasforêt sets the tone for the rest of the route, which continues on a false flat to Vieux Hureau and Saint-Sylvestre et Grandmont, one of the most important monastic orders of the Middle Ages. Descents on stony forest paths, flat terrain and climbs follow one another to conclude the loop at Vieux Hureau. The return to base is downhill on very old and sometimes very technical paths, especially after Puy Garsault.

This is a longer version of the dolmen trail, suitable for experienced hikers. In fact, it begins to approach the relief of the Limousin's mid-range mountains. Relatively flat up to Grand Royères, the trail then climbs over stony terrain to the village of Cloud. Then the descent to Les Vergnes offers a beautiful view of the Monts d'Ambazac.

The town hall has set up four tables for visitors on the esplanade of its multi-sports field.

It was built by the Société des Forces Motrices in 1930, some ten metres upstream of the old stone structure. In July 1944, maquisards blew up one of the arches to prevent the retreat of German troops heading for Normandy. In August, when the militia fled, the German military police lowered the level of the dam to allow them to cross over the submerged bridge. The current 65 m-long bridge is a Bow string bridge. It has been awarded the "Heritage of the 20th Century" label.

Fancy a real fishing break under the stars? Situated between Saint Martin Terressus, Le Châtenet en Dognon, Saint Laurent les Églises and Les Billanges, the Saint-Marc reservoir is home to three courses dedicated to night-time carp fishing in an unspoilt Limousin setting near the Dognon bridge. To enjoy the calm waters of the Taurion, set up your biwy on the right bank at Anse de Bussin, on the left bank upstream of Ruisseau de la Gasnerie or on the right bank upstream of the municipal campsite. Night fishing is carried out from the shore in these marked out areas, exclusively using plant baits and with compulsory release. On this 130-hectare lake, renowned for its fine carp populations, anglers also come across pike, zander, perch and catfish. Boat launch, three parking areas and easy access.

Following an internship at the botanical garden in Quito, Ecuador, Estelle was inspired to make plants her profession. After obtaining a state diploma as a phytotherapy and aromatherapy consultant, she decided to become a producer of aromatic and medicinal plants. She produces a wide range of herbal teas for medicinal purposes, with blends of plants grown on her own land or gathered from the wild. She sells her products in local grocery stores at Le P'tits Bio in Ambazac, Café Baboum in Sauvagnac, La Lanterne in Saint-Goussaud and Le Ptit Mag in Ambazac. She organizes introductory courses in permaculture, discovery of edible and medicinal wild plants, and creation of customized infusions. Reservations can be made via the Wecandoo platform.

The 12th-13th-century Romanesque church comprises a single nave with substructures that may date back to the 11th century. It was fortified during the Wars of Religion (15th-16th). In 1983, the sacristy and the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary collapsed in the same night and were not rebuilt. Inside is a treasure trove of Limousin silverware, including a statue-reliquary of the true cross depicting a deacon, possibly Saint Etienne de Muret, and the arm-reliquary of Saint Félicien. In 2003, frescoes from the south door to 2/3 of the north wall were discovered, the oldest and best preserved dating from the late 14th and early 15th centuries.

While enjoying your picnic near the town hall, take in the beautiful architecture of the fortified church of Les Billanges. Don't hesitate to enter this monument to discover a treasure trove of Limousin silverware!

Built at the end of the Second Empire by Jean-Baptiste Mignon, an engineer and famous patentee of some 100 inventions and collaborator of Eiffel, Château de Walmath is set in a magnificent English park. It boasts original architectural features, including an impressive copy of the Légion d'honneur staircase in Paris. Visitors can also admire superb greenhouses, an orange grove and a pond with rockery bridges and rhododendrons in bloom. This English-style park, created in collaboration with landscape architect André Laurent, has retained some of its original trees. Other species were imported from America, as was common at the end of the 19th century. Visits by appointment only.

The ESAT de l'ARAI (Association Rurale pour Adultes en Insertion) restaurant in Saint Laurent les Eglises offers a panoramic view of the Taurion and the Pont du Dognon (listed as a remarkable 20th-century architectural monument).

Yann and Sylvie will introduce you to their local produce with simplicity, quality and finesse. The inn is open every Saturday and Sunday for lunch only, from 12:30 to 1pm, as well as on public holidays. Don't forget to reserve your table, either inside or on the terrace. Groups of up to 40 people welcome on weekdays.
