The 2-kilometre-long, signposted itinerary runs through this former millstone quarry, which has become a haven for over 2,500 species of animal, plant and fungi. Information panels and a digital interface with spectacular videos accompany visitors, who can also join in regular outings and tours focusing on the site's history, biodiversity (carnivorous plants, dragonflies, frogs, etc.) and the management of a national nature reserve.

Located at the confluence of the Vienne and Clain rivers, the ancient town of Vetus Pictavis dates back almost 2000 years. Covering an area of almost 80 hectares, it dates back to the time of Emperor Augustus. To the south-east, the 10,000-seat theater, 116 metres in diameter, offers a gigantic view of the ancient monuments of that era. Gallo-Romans from the town and surrounding area came to watch the artists perform in the orchestra (performance space). Around the theater, you'll find a wealth of evidence of the city's intense life: a well-designed grid of streets, houses, temples and a craftsman's quarter, complete with potters' kilns. Since 1810, the Lépine family has been making walnut oil: one of the oldest traditions, perpetuating over time an artisanal flavor like no other. The kernels are crushed and ground to a thick paste. This then passes into a frying pan, where it cooks until it turns brown. This is a delicate phase, as the art of obtaining a tasty oil depends on the cooking process. This molasses is then poured into the hydraulic press, from which flows this marvellous golden-coloured liquid. Walnut oil has excellent dietary value, thanks to its vitamin content and cholesterol-lowering fatty acids. Free admission. Formerly a quarry, the Laumont site in Naintré has been the subject of an ecological rehabilitation program. Today, over 40 species have been recorded at Laumont, including the Common Yellowlegs and the Wild Swallow. With a view to enhancing this natural heritage, an educational trail around the lake is currently being developed in conjunction with the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux. This will enable the public to discover the site.
