Camping du Pêcheur: discover Aix-les-Bains' delights

A leisurely stroll to discover the spa town and admire it from the natural balcony overlooking Lac du Bourget. And a little exercise to give you a good excuse to end the day with a swim! Leave the lake at your back (no regrets, you'll enjoy it on your return!) and pedal towards the city. As you make your way towards the heights of the spa town, you'll pass magnificent buildings worthy of one of France's finest spas. Ask your calves for a little more effort and you're on the road above. You're now pedaling at a leisurely pace, overlooking Aix-les-Bains, which stretches nonchalantly down to Lac du Bourget. Take advantage of the steady rhythm of your pedaling to admire the restful view of this immense expanse of water. Once you've reached the charming village of Grésy, you'll begin a gentle descent into the Corsuet forest. There's no need to slam on the brakes, just glide down into the pleasant shade of the tall trees. Then the lake and its boats reappear in the landscape. Come on, you've earned the right to step ashore and jump into its delightful waters!

After an arduous climb and long ridge crossing, your efforts will be rewarded by an outstanding descent over the Marais de Chautagne, with views of a fjord-like Lake Bourget, and the Grand Colombier towering above the Rhône. Marvellous!

At the top of your game? Then set off on this beautiful loop between Lac du Bourget and the Massif des Bauges. It will be hard on your calves, but will reward you with unique views! Barely out of town, and you've got to push on the pedals to climb the foothills of the Bauges massif. You'll break a sweat, but at least the hard part's over, and you're now overlooking Lac du Bourget. You can now take up a cruising pace and pedal leisurely along small country roads, from one village to the next. The views over the lake are splendid, and you can see boats sailing on its calm waters in the distance. Little by little, you approach Mont Revard on your right. From time to time you pass a small stream running down its slopes. And now it's your turn to start the descent. Soon the countryside gives way to the city, and you cross the town of Aix-les-Bains to reach the lakeside. After such a beautiful loop, there's nothing like a refreshing swim!

One of the most beautiful bike rides in the area. Numerous highlights include Le Bourget's beach and harbour, the viewpoint on the climb to the Col du Chat, the bird's-eye view of Hautecombe Abbey from Ontex, Portout harbour, Aix's two harbours.

A variant on the Lac du Bourget Circuit, with a few more great moments: the crossing of the Col du Chat, a descent through the vineyards of the Avant-Pays and an obligatory coffee stop at one of the terraces in Chanaz, one of the most beautiful villages in Savoie. This variant can also be done more easily via the Cat tunnel gallery and route no. 60, from the Bourdeau exit to Billième.

A route for passing cyclists heading from the Lac du Bourget to the Lac d'Annecy. It climbs gently through the Gorges du Sierroz and crosses the spectacular Pont de l’Abîme, before winding through a few little villages along the bottom of the Semnoz.

A magnificent circuit for cyclists with good legs, to discover all the facets of Lac du Bourget! Put on your helmet, don't forget your water bottle, and off you go! Quickly out of town, you find yourself on the road that runs alongside the lake. Effortlessly, you enjoy the cool spray. The water shimmers in the sunlight, and you almost envy the bathers as they splash about laughing. But what's that magnificent building you can make out on the other bank? It's Hautecombe Abbey, tomb of the Dukes of Savoy. You can see why they chose this as their final resting place. Then the route leaves the gentle shores of the lake to climb the Chambotte. This time there's no time to dawdle: you have to pedal hard. Suddenly, the sunlight disappears: you're in a tunnel... What a wonder when you emerge on the other side! Stop for a moment to enjoy the breathtaking view of the lake at the foot of the cliff. You won't regret the effort! On the way back, you'll pass by the other side of the Chambotte to enjoy the countryside, then head back down to Aix-les-Bains.

The small effort required by this short circuit is certainly worth it, as the reward is a superb view over the Lac du Bourget from a scenic viewpoint. Can be started from Chambéry.

The Tour des Bauges by bike winds its way through the foothills of the PNR of the Bauges massif. A beautiful escape into the heart of varied landscapes, punctuated by the rich heritage of towns and villages to discover during a stopover or a stage. When you arrive in Aix-les-Bains Riviera des Alpes, you can explore the town's heritage by bike before heading to the Grand Port on the shores of Lac du Bourget, following the V63 signs and strolling along the Esplanade du Lac or visiting Aqualis, the Lac du Bourget interpretation center. At the end of the esplanade, follow the V63 towards Le Bourget-du-Lac. This pleasant stretch of road, lined with reedbeds and with beautiful views of the Dent du Chat, the Chaine de l'Epine and Mont Revard, runs alongside Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France, and gives full meaning to the word "wellness". There are three beaches along the way (Rowing, Lido, Mottets), ideal for a swim, picnic, refreshment or to follow the ballet of kit-surf sails. In the hamlet of Terre Nue, restaurants offer specialties from the lake. At Les Mottets, don't miss out on a visit to the freely accessible bird observatories. Then follow the greenway along the course of the Leysse to reach Chambéry, a city of Art and History.

This restless garden, rich in wild, self-seeding plants, is open to everyone. Unlike other gardens in the French style, this garden seeks to minimise human intervention, and places no boundaries on natural processes; the plants that grow here are left to develop as they please. The gardeners are required to use good observational skills and their knowledge of the species and their behaviour in order to enhance the plants' natural capacities; their role includes planting local species, watering and tending (without fertilisers, pesticides or chemical weeding). Partial mowing creates paths through the long grass, which is popular with walkers.

Up above, there is a viewpoint with a unique panorama over the town centre and the Lac du Bourget.

This lookout over the city is just a 15-minutes walk from the city-centre. This viewpoint is situated on the upper part of the Bois Vidal, and is accessible via a path of the same name. From the centre, take the Boulevard de la Roche du Roi to enter the Bois Vidal. Staying on the main path, you will come to this viewpoint with an almost 180° panorama over the town centre and the north of the Lac du Bourget, as well as la Dent du Chat and the Grand Colombier.

The Corsuet Forest, on the outskirts of Aix-les-Bains, is ideal for family excursions and joggers. It offers several lookouts over the Lac du Bourget and the Massif des Bauges. This place of restoration and fresh air has 3 car parks, which act as starting points for several walks. These 4 walks allow you to gain height and reach the various viewpoints overlooking the Lac du Bourget: Sentier du Réservoir (20 minute walk) - Sentier du Renard (30 mins) - Sentier de Corsuet (40 mins) or Sentier du Loup (75 mins). Information boards are placed at intervals, and all walks are signposted.
