For a quick and panoramic discovery of the resort of Bains Les Bains, this short forestry trail, just a stone's throw from the centre and with a steep slope, allows the discovery of the Million hill overlooking the spa. It owes its name to the honey that used to be produced there.

At the Grands Prés, a beautiful restored house, then traditional charri farms mark out this route with a slight difference in level. Nice view over the highest point of Le Noirmont.

Blue ring marking - Varied trail - At the Rue de la Pavée near the camping area, follow the small marked path. Continue on this path until you cross the Rue des Anciens Moulins. The big building in front of you is an old wire drawing mill. Wire drawing is the process of reduction of the cross-section of a metal wire by mechanical traction on a drawing machine. Factories that specialise in wire drawing are called wire drawing mills. Turn left to continue along Rue des Anciens Moulins. Follow the markings to a small path in the forest. You come to a crossroads, turn right. You will come to another crossroads, turn right again. The road you are taking was the old road used by the inhabitants of Trémonzey to get to work in the factory, the mills, the wire drawing mill... You will arrive at the Moulin au bois, a former nail factory. This metallurgical factory, known as the Moulins-aux-Bois forge in the 16th century, then became a hardware factory (nails) in the 19th century. It definitely closed in 1980. The film "Indigène" by Rachid Bouchared was shot in this area. The film takes place in 1943, when France is trying to free itself from Nazi domination. It follows the journey of four "natives", forgotten soldiers of the 1st French army recruited in Africa. Cross the D434 to continue straight ahead over a bridge. You will walk along the Canal des Vosges and the river Le Côney, then cross a wooden bridge. Continue on this road and you will see the Manufacture on your left, then the beech tree opposite the Châtelet. Take the straight road on the left (possibility of a path through the wood on the left, to be avoided in wet weather). Following the markings, cross the road carefully and go up on the right by a stone path, an old Roman road.

The Lombard Tower is the last trace of the fortifications erected in the 14th century when the town was connected to the House of Burgundy. Also known as the “Tour du Poids”, it was used for administrative purposes during the economic boom of the town during the Renaissance. To discover: 2 traditional vaulted artillery rooms with three gun ports and a beautiful Guard Room on the 3rd level. Tours every third Monday from mid-March to mid-November with the Tourist Information Office of Bains-Les-Bains. Occasional tours by the “Amis du Vieux Fontenoy” association in summer and during the Heritage Days in September.

Built during a prosperous period, this church is in the flamboyant Gothic style of the 15th century. Built by the Burgundian Sires on the remains of a Romanesque building, of which some traces remain (pools), it has a beautiful overall harmony. The unique choir has an altar made of a massive buhr mill, cut from local sandstone. On top of it are anthropomorphic keystones with the effigy of the Lords of Neuchâtel. The sculpted stone pulpit, the baptismal font and the south portal are fine examples of Renaissance architecture. Free tour of the House of Julie Victoire Daubié in the Manufacture Royale of Bains-les-Bains. In her residence “Maison des Illustres” which is open to visitors, you will discover her reconstructed library, with extracts from her works from original documents entrusted by the BMI of Epinal. A tour in a refined setting that brings to life the era of Julie Victoire.

Between forest, canal and river, the Manufacture Royale of Bains is alongside the walking and cycling path. The manufacture Royale was the most important tinware factory in the Kingdom in the 18th century, with an industry born from wood and water? It is one of the best preserved French industrial sites of the 18th century. The history of this industrial site is fabulous. Baron Falatieu, who brought the Manufacture Royale to a peak, left his mark here. Other personalities did the same: Julie Victoire Daubié, the first French baccalaureate female holder, who was born in the Maison du Caissier in 1824, Cavour, the leader of the Italian unification movement, who stayed there in 1839, and the politician Jules Méline. A visit to the park with its century-old trees allows you to discover the dwarf beech, Unesco's tree of the year in 2011, and the rare species that bear witness to the domain’s rich industrial past (Ginko Biloba, Catalpa, Tulip tree). In the charcoal hall, which was used to store charcoal, you can discover the exhibitions that retrace the history of the tinware factory, thanks to the research of Chantal Starck, Remi Ritter, and Anny Thouvenin with the Departmental Archives... The Manufacture Royale has received many awards for the beauty of its park and terraced gardens, and for its chapel and its stained glass windows, made by Nathalie Noirjean and restored with the help of donors and the Fondation du Patrimoine. One of the oldest paternalist industrial sites in Lorraine, turned since then into dwellings, guest houses, gites and rooms in the castle which tell, like the guided tours, this timeless story. Guided tours of the industrial site, its park and its chapel take place on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month from April to October, upon prior registration at the tourist information office. Groups on reservation. Activities, concerts and exhibitions are offered in June, July and September. The site remains open and accessible all year round, and an exhibition is offered free of charge.

Neo-Gothic chapel from 1861 and former important place of pilgrimage. Here, people pray to the Virgin to heal the sick. The inside is papered with votive offerings. The stained glass windows recall the legend that a statue of the Virgin Mary, originally placed in the hollow of an oak tree in the middle of the “brosse” (brush), mysteriously moved to the church in Bains. In the park surrounding the chapel there is still a mission cross from 1886 and a memorial honouring the parish priest Bernardin, who was responsible for the creation of the chapel. On the back of the tympanum of the entrance, an engraved text reminds us of this.

In the “Museum of glass, iron, wood and the Resistance”, there are countless glass objects, tools, models and photographs illustrating the expertise of the people of the forest over the last five centuries. One room focusses on the French Resistance (1943-44); another highlights the famous glassmaker François-Théodore Legras. In summer 2010, there will be a temporary exhibition entitled, “The Gallo-Romans in Saône Lorraine”.

Learn more about the amazing history of this former starch factory from the 19th century, a survivor of the Vosges heritage. Our association of enthusiasts will take you on a journey along the "Potato to Starch Trail", to discover a forgotten activity which was yet practised in more than 300 starch factories in the Vosges! For ten years now, the volunteers of the association "Les Kémottes" have been working to restore the potato processing process and to revive the history of the workers. This initiative was made possible thanks to the memories and funny anecdotes passed on by the "old-timers" of the starch factory. The visit begins along the canal that guided the water from the Vôge to the large mill wheel. This wheel produced the energy needed to operate the various machines in the starch factory. We then follow the path of the potato, from the cellar where it was stored, to the sacking of the starch obtained after the extraction process. Immerse yourself in the daily life of the workers: sorting, washing, grating, filtering, decanting, drying... until a fine, white, silky powder was obtained and sent to textile factories, paper mills, glucose factories... walk among the clever installations, from the production workshop to the floor where the starch was dried and sieved. A journey through time that will tell you a lot about the working conditions, the tools and the tasks of the workers in the starch factory. Saint-Jean-Baptiste church is located in Ruaux, a small village in the commune of Plombières-les-Bains. It is classified as a "barn church", a type of construction common in 18th-century Lorraine. The church is one of the few surviving examples of the use of sandstone or "laves" as a roofing material in religious buildings. This technique was mainly used from the second half of the 18th to the 19th century. The building was restored in 1985.

The marina of Fontenoy-le-Château is along the Vosges canal. A few kilometres away, discover the city of Bains-les-Bains and the Manufacture Royale, one of the most beautiful industrials of the 18th century. In Fontenoy-le-Château, go and discover this medieval, typical village and admire the ruins of its castle. In the centre of the village, you will find a museum of embroidery and metalworking.
