Discover at CAMPING PARC LA CHAUMIERE, Heimsbrunn, Haut-Rhin

This half-woodland, half-forest circuit, situated in the last hills of the Sundgau, allows you to discover some beautiful half-timbered houses, the chapel of Notre Dame du Chêne, the Steinbaechlein, hundred-year-old oaks and vestiges of the 1914-18 war. The starting point is at the back of the town hall, right next to the church.

At the gates of Mulhouse a circuit through fields and woods, accessible to all. This easy route takes you through the countryside around Morschwiller-le-Bas: a guaranteed change of scenery on the outskirts of a town of 200,000 inhabitants. The start and finish of this circuit is in the car park of the multi-purpose hall in Morschwiller-le-Bas. A children's playground and public benches are at your disposal.

On the front line, between bunkers and trenches The tour is punctuated by bunkers which used to mark out the frontline during the first World War. Along the trail you will discover other places such as mills, a washing place and the Hagendorn spring. Historical explanations will be given by signs next to the bunkers. At the edge of the Doller river a shelter made of wood fitted out with a barbecue area will enable to halt. Length: a 9 kilometer loop. Duration: two and half hours. Start: from the church in Burnhaupt-le-bas, follow the red ring.

This walk traverses a varied landscape, with the village of Didenheim, the chapel of St. Gall, the wooded Gallenhoeltzchen hill, farmland offering beautiful views, and the Ill valley. The trail begins with a steep 80m climb, then descends rapidly towards the middle, but there are several benches where you can stop for a rest. The route can be shortened to 5 km by returning to the village from point 7 (Erbland bridge).

Starting at Mulhouse railway station, you will discover the many facets of the town’s unique industrial heritage: former factories, some of which have been converted (artists’ community, university, contemporary art centre etc.), the town’s former working-class estates (Cité Drouot, Cité Manifeste etc.), not forgetting the beautiful mansions of the industry leaders. You will also find a number of contemporary works and the main museums in Mulhouse (Automobile Museum, Railway Museum etc.).

Two loops are proposed for this fitness trail: the first is destined for families with 8 apparatus and a loop of 800 m and the second for sportsmen with 2.7 km and 20 apparatus: leap sheep, pull bar, leaping strides... br> The extra of this trail? It's the only one of the department to be adapted for people with reduced mobility. An ideal shady setting to enjoy a nature outing! At halfway, look up and admire the big oak tree!

Going from Palmenhart Hill to Geissberg Hill, one discovers part of the battlefield where French and German troops clashed on 19 August 1914, at the beginning of the First World War. Eight explanatory plaques detail the military events that took place at that time. You also pass through the village of Flaxlanden, which preserves an interesting historical heritage, including several stone houses dating from before 1630.

A shaded path crossing the forest in direction of the Michelbach dam, located at the foot of the Grand Ballon. The route runs alongside and crosses the railway line, used in summer by the bucolic steam train "Train Thur Doller Alsace".

This tour passes through the various hills of Dornach, and through several urban areas of the village incorporated into Mulhouse in 1914. The route is signposted four times in succession and can be travelled in three separate sections from tram to tram (Dornach-University Station 2.5 km, University-Coteaux 4 km, Coteaux-Gare Dornach 2 km).

This semi-urban, semi-rural route crosses both the western part of the Dornach-Mer Rouge district and the Doller plain between Morschwiller and Lutterbach. The return journey takes a few minutes by tram 3 or the tram-train.

Back in Heimsbrunn, the Saint Joseph fishing pond reflects some of the new houses in the village.

On the edge of the main road, you first pass the Sainte Anne retirement home, created in 1819, then a calvary dating from 1869 which recalls the memory of a young man (Joseph Sitterlen) who died at the age of 27.

On arrival in front of the church of Heimsbrunn, a glance at house N°6 rue de Belfort reveals a beautiful half-timbered house. Dating from the 17th century, it has a porch surmounted by a loggia, buttressed windows and a slight corbel. The richness of its architecture suggests the property of a notable or a craftsman. A little further on, at nos. 8 and 10 rue de Belfort, two other timber-framed farmhouses are a little less old (18th or 19th century) but very typical.

The church of Heimsbrunn, whose patrons are Saint Projet and Saint Amarin, was built in 1768. Its bell tower is topped by a spire erected in 1862 by the famous Mulhouse architect Jean-Baptiste Schacre. The church has a Callinet organ from the 1830s. Behind the town hall, house N°21 rue de la Cure has original half-timbered walls (16th or 17th century).

The half-timbered house on Rue de la Cure, No. 11, is remarkable. Its central post rising from the bottom to the ridge of the roof is quite rare in the Sundgau and bears witness to medieval architecture. It could date from the 15th century.

The chapel of Notre Dame du Chêne, called Ramahay by the locals, was built in 1959 not far from an oak tree which, on the other side of the road, housed a statue of the Virgin and which was struck by lightning in 1947. Since the 19th century, many pilgrims have come to pray here and the chapel is still very popular today, especially on the feast of the Assumption. Next to the chapel, a whole wall is covered with ex votos (thanks to the Virgin).

Opposite the chapel, crossing the road, you can go and admire (200m round trip) the Saint Louis oak tree, probably the oldest in the former seigneury of Heimsbrunn. It is said to be between 300 and 700 years old.

When you arrive on the road (the old Mulhouse-Belfort main road), you follow and then cross the Steinbaechlein, a river which flows from the Doller at Pont d'Aspach and which flows into the Ill shortly after Mulhouse. The Steinbaechlein once fed a series of mills, and then, from 1746 onwards, made the Mulhouse textile industry rich thanks to its crystal clear water from the Vosges.

At the exit of the forest, a three hundred year old oak tree (circumference 4.70 m) stands like a sentinel opposite the fields.

At the end of the forest, you can make a 200-metre round trip to admire a bi-centennial silver willow (circumference 8.40 m), the only survivor of the 1974 land consolidation.
