GRP Tour de la presqu'île du Cotentin - Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte Picauville

The GRP® Tour de la presqu?île du Cotentin mostly follows the GR®223 along the coast.
It differs in the southern part, crossing the marshes to complete the Tour du Cotentin in 15 days.

On this stage, the route continues through bocage and marshland to Picauville.

In 1944, the commune was the westernmost objective of the American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne, who built an airfield there to provide air support for operations in the Cotentin region. Faced with solid resistance from the German 91st Infantry Division, the Americans pounded the town until June 13. By the time the German forces evacuated, three-quarters of the commune had been destroyed.
