Circuit de la Glane

Cette statue, réalisée durant l'hiver 44-45 par l'artiste Apel-Les Fenosa, artiste espagnol, est destinée à commémorer la tragédie d'Oradour-sur-Glane et porte comme titre "Aux Martyrs d'Oradour". Elle représente une femme nue enceinte levant les bras au ciel essayant de sortir des flammes.

En mars 2024, dans le cadre des 80 ans du massacre, la commune d'Oradour-sur-Glane, en partenariat avec l’ONF, Fransylva, les pépiniéristes et le Fonds forestier du Limousin, a planté une forêt mémorielle à mi-chemin entre le centre-bourg et la rivière, le long d’un sentier local. 205 arbres, un pour chaque enfant victime du massacre. Transmettre le devoir de mémoire dès le plus jeune âge : les élèves de l’école d’Oradour ont planté les arbres eux-mêmes, créant ainsi un engagement durable envers l’histoire.

In the aftermath of June 10 1944, Oradour-sur-Glane sadly became part of history. On March 4, 1945, the provisional government, then represented by General De Gaulle, planned to rebuild a new town. On October 8, 2007, the town was awarded the "Heritage of the 20th Century" label. Charged with history and emotion, the village of Oradour has risen from the ashes while preserving the vestiges of its past.

The Saint-Martin church marks the end of the construction of Nouvel Oradour in 1953. Located at the entrance to the village, on the main avenue, it is the town's most important landmark. A link between past and present, it is designed to be seen from afar. Constructed in concrete, it reflects the symbolism of the commemorative monument. It is composed of simple volumes: a slender bell tower and a square plan. Not to be missed: the statue of Saint-Victurnien and the stained-glass windows depicting the Beatitudes, created by the Chigot workshop in Limoges.

Oradour-sur-Glane, once a peaceful and prosperous village in the Limousin region, became part of history on June 10, 1944. On that day, 200 soldiers of the Das Reich division surrounded Oradour and rounded up the population. All were killed and burned, claiming 643 innocent victims. Only 6 people escaped the massacre and were able to testify. The ruins of the martyred village still bear witness to the atrocious barbarity. The Centre de la Mémoire, with its exhibition rooms, invites us to reflect. Construction of the new village was completed in 1953. Today, Oradour is a bustling rural center, with shops and associations bringing life to the village.
