Le Suran est jalonné par de nombreux gués, correspondant à de grosses pierres posées en travers du courant. Les berges étaient aussi aménagées pour le passage des animaux. D’origine incertaine, il est probable que cet emploi soit très ancien.Au centre du village de Simandre, un peu en aval de l'église, existe un remarquable gué fait d'énormes pierres et qui remonte sans doute au Moyen-âge. Ce gué se trouve à proximité immédiate du "pont de Simandre" qui relie Simandre au Petit-Simandre. Il existe aussi deux autres gués sur le Suran, l'un à Banchin et l'autre à Tournesac.
