Preserved intact since the 18th century, the Canon estate was founded by Jean-Baptiste Elie de Beaumont, a renowned lawyer of the Age of Enlightenment, whose intellect and personality left their mark on Canon’s architecture and landscape. Guided tours of the château take place daily at 3.00 pm and 4.30 pm in July and August. (Duration of the tour: 1 hour) This estate is listed as a Historic Monument and has been awarded the ‘Jardin Remarquable’ label, owing to the exceptional ensemble formed by its formal flowerbeds, wild groves and period architectural features (Chinese pavilions, Greco-Roman temple). Known as a ‘transitional garden’, it is designed in both the French and English styles and teems with a multitude of streams, waterfalls and canals that accompany the visitor. The tour ends in the Chartreuses, a dazzling ensemble of thirteen walled gardens set in a row, entirely planted with perennials. A veritable open-air greenhouse, unique in France. Your tour of the zoological park covers a highly diversified surface area of 15 hectares, in the form of 1.5-mile trails amidst orchards with apple, pear, apricot and other rare fruit trees in the heart of Normandy. Includes an adventure trail for visitors aged 5 to 15 years. The estate also offers original accommodation: treetop cabins, including the highest one in Europe. You can also enjoy a taste of locally-produced organic products: cider, calvados, apple juice, etc.

In the heart of the Troarn marshes, this 18th century "house in the country" is a listed historic monument and a fine example of classical architecture having preserved the majority of its stone or half-timbered outbuildings. The castle, made of Caen stone, is of distinctive architectural quality including sculpted ornementation: allegories and canting arms on the pediments, plant decor on the scrolls and window frames. Inside, one can visit the vestibule with its grand stone and ironwork staircase, the dining room, the lounge adorned with fine woodwork and the listed billiard room boasting rare early 19th century panoramic wall coverings by Dufour.
