Walking itinerary La forêt du Miollet

Description

Take the gondola and enter the path through the woods. You walk down through little hamlets (Les Combes). Nice and easy downhill trail. Enjoy the beautiful view over the peaks!
Starting point: at the top of the gondola, at 1970 m
Arrival: at the bottom of the gondola (carpark)
Duration: 2:10 hr downhill

At the top of the gondola, take the stairs to the left along the picnic room and then turn left to reach the trail's starting point (sign). The route goes downhill and describes a few bends. Further down, it enters the forest until you reach the wide Bois track (ski slope in winter).

Head up (on the right) on this trail for 50 meters to take on the left a rather wide trail that goes down into the forest.
The path heads on the left, going along the Réclard stream, which it then fords. The route goes up slightly, passes a "bump"; always follow the track which reaches below the "forest house" (water point).

From this point, follow the track straight through the forest by a short ascent that crosses and arrives at the crossing of a second track that can be driven on.
Take the downhill one; it winds its way down to reach the hamlet of "Combes d'en Haut", then "Combes d'en Bas". At "Combes du Milieu" leave the alpine road for a path on the right, heading down to Champagny le Bas. The path joins up with the alpine road to go down to the gondola car park (arrival).

Guidebook with maps/step-by-step

0/ From the top station of the gondola (Alt. 1970m) At the top of the gondola, take the stairs on the left along the non-sacred room then turn left to reach the start of the path (sign). 1/ The itinerary swings down the slope and twists and turns. Further down, it enters the forest until you reach the wide Bois track. Go up (on the right) this track for 50 metres to take a fairly wide path on the left which descends into the forest. 2/ This path returns to the left, skirts the Réclard stream which it then fords. The itinerary goes up slightly, passes a "hump"; always follow the track which reaches the "maison forestière" (watering place) further down. 3/ From this point, there are two possible options for the descent to Champagny en Vanoise (same walking time: 0h55). > Option 1: via the track and the Combes d'en Haut, Combes du Milieu Follow the track straight on through the forest by a short rise which crosses and arrives at the crossing of a second track. 4/ Take the one that goes down; it winds to reach the hamlet of "Combes d'en Haut", then "Combes d'en Bas". 5/ At "Combes du Milieu" leave the mountain pasture road for a path on the right towards Champagny le Bas. The path catches up with the mountain pasture road to go back down to the gondola car park (arrival). > Option 2: via the Bois des Genévriers path In front of the forest house, take a newly created and well-marked downhill path on the left, which winds through the forest (magnificent view of the "gabion", these stone walls built in the 20th century to limit flooding in the Reclard torrent). After several twists and turns, the path leaves the clearing and joins the road below (known as "des Bois"). Follow it downhill for about 500m. Further down (crossroads), take the direction of the hamlet of La Traye which you cross. You then reach the departure station of the cable car (arrival).
