Eglise Saint Léonard

L’église dédiée à Saint-Léonard au 15eme siècle avait trois nefs, le plan était en forme de croix latine. Elle est ensuite réduite à une nef au 17eme siècle. L’ancienne église qui datait du 17eme siècle, a été détruite dans la bataille de 1940. Elle fut reconstruite complètement en 1954 et inaugurée le 27 mai 1954 en présence de son Excellence Monseigneur DUPONT, évêque, assisté de Monseigneur DEVOS, Archidiacre des Flandres et de M. COEVOET, Maire de Spycker. L’église paroissial de SPYCKER fut la première des églises flamandes reconstruites après la guerre 40-45. Construite par l’entreprise PLANQUART sur les plan de M. BEUN, architecte, les parois intérieures sont revêtues d’un parementage artistement combiné et dessinant de grands carreaux. Les vitraux dont un très beau en forme de triptyque éclaire le maître-autel. Une large tribune fait face au choeur. Un escalier descend sous le choeur et mène à un crypte: la chapelle de St Léonard. Sur le fronton de l’église, il est frappé l’inscription suivante « Sanctuaire de l’éternel amour » La cloche actuelle a été fondue par Monsieur DIAS Robert de Coudekerque Branche en octobre 1953. La bénédiction de cette cloche a eu lieu le 19 novembre 1953. La cloche s’appelle Marie-Thérèse , sa marraine est Marie-Thérèse DIAS, son parrain est Roger BASE. M. PARESYS était curé de Spycker. Elle ne sonne que l’amour. La cloche a été bénite par Monseigneur DEVOS Vicaire général, Archidiacre des Flandre, assisté par Monseigneur VERMERSCH, Archiprêtre d’Hazebrouck. Dans le choeur de cette chapelle, on remarque St Léonard sous la forme d’une statue, don d’un ancien curé de la paroisse, le vice-doyen Cappelaere, prédécesseur de l’Abbé Parésys. Cette statue est placée dans le sanctuaire principal chaque année le 6 novembre, jour de la fête du Saint. C’est la seule manifestation en l’honneur du patron de la paroisse. Une illustration de St Léonard. Il s’agit d’une partie d’un triptyque daté de 1975 mais non signé, incontestable oeuvre d’art, peinture sur bois appelée à être restaurée. On y trouve, en compagnie vraisemblablement des membres d’une famille locale, d’une part St Blaise, d’autre part St-Léonard. En temps ordinaire, cette peinture se trouve fixée à droite de l’entrée de l’église. Elle est l’une des rares pièces sauvées de la destruction de l’ancien édifice, avec le St Léonard de la crypte et deux statues de bois: un groupe formé de Ste Anne, Marie et l’Enfant-Jésus.

Le Lac d’Armbouts-Cappel, réserve ornithologique et base de loisirs

Le lac d’Armbouts-Cappel est situé au hameau du Pont de Petite-Synthe. La Communauté Urbaine de Dunkerque est propriétaire de la base de loisirs, composée de deux plans d’eau, d’espaces engazonnés de détente et de loisirs, et de chemins permettant la promenade. Des associations et clubs sportifs utilisent ces espaces pour leurs activités : la pêche, la plongée, l’agility… Le Lac est également une réserve ornithologique qui accueille chaque hiver de nombreuses espèces d’oiseaux. Eglise Saint Martin

Au centre du village, on peut découvrir, l’église Saint-Martin inscrite à l’inventaire supplémentaire des monuments historiques. Celle-ci a été construite en 1957 par l’architecte Pierre PINSARD, l’église précédente ayant été détruite durant la seconde guerre mondiale. Les vitraux sont l’oeuvre de Jean BERTHOLLE.
