Description

Towards the end of the 12th century, when work began to consolidate Laon's fortified walls, there were no fewer than 18 gates or posterns dotting the walls, preventing access to Lugdunum clavatum (literally, the closed city).

Today, they have been divided by six: only three remain, all on the south side.

Let's take a leisurely stroll from west to east to discover them, and find out more about Laon's strategic role through the ages... and also enjoy some lovely views and wander around the foot of the ramparts!
