Cycling route B10 - Le Ballon d'Alsace

Description

This 9-kilometre climb takes you to the top of the pass at an altitude of 1178 m. This pass is world-famous among cyclists, as it was the first pass to be climbed by the Tour de France in 1905 and has been the finishing line for several stages of the Grande Boucle. For the last ten years or so, climbers taking part in the local race have been trying to beat the record of 23 minutes and 58 seconds held by Michel SNEL. The start is opposite the Tourist Office in Saint Maurice sur Moselle. Follow the D465, signposted all the way, up 12 hairpin bends on a steady gradient of around 7% to the summit. La Jumenterie is the last kilometre! The return journey takes the same route. Be careful on the way down!
