Description

This easy loopback walk through gently-rolling countryside along the Mont-Sion ridge is a wonderful place for a stroll and some breathtaking views over the Préalpes, Jura, Geneva area, Usses Valley and the nearby Salève.

In Charly, visit the 15th-century chapel. There is a communal gîte beside it. Walk along the banks of the Bougerie Lake and admire the view over Lake Geneva and the Alps. Mont-Sion forms a natural link between the Salève ad Vuache areas and is crossed by the pilgrims' road to Santiago de Compostela.

Information n°1

De la place Saint-Jacques de Compostelle (chapelle, bassin), monter par le chemin des Sons.

Information n°2

Tourner à droite, sortir du village par le chemin empierré et parvenir à la croix de Vin (850 m). Variante (circuit court de 5 km) : partir à gauche vers l'étang de la Bougerie.

Tourner à droite et descendre au col du Mont-Sion.

Information n°4

Au panneau directionnel, près de la N201, descendre à gauche par le chemin des Vernans (ancien tracé de la route).

Information n°5

Au panneau "Les Vernans 720 m" monter à gauche par le chemin forestier (à l'entrée du bois de résineux, 50 m en amont du chemin, gros bloc erratique de granite). Possibilité de prendre la route à droite jusqu'à la Vierge du Mont-Sion.

Au panneau "Montailloux", monter à gauche par la petite route au milieu des prés puis par le chemin et retrouver la croix de Vin.

Emprunter le large chemin à droite.

Laisser le chemin du retour à gauche et continuer tout droit. Tourner à gauche, puis déboucher dans une vaste prairie plane (panorama).

Charly chapel - Andilly

The chapelle de Charly or chapelle Saint-Jacques is a 15th-century building. The bell tower was listed as a Monument Historique on May 12, 1975.The building was commissioned in 1454 by Jacques Fusier, a local religious dignitary. A fire at the end of the 15th century led to the rebuilding of the church in 1541. In 1787, a second fire led to the construction of the present bulbous bell tower.
