Steps
Point 1
Contournez la Hallekerque – église halle à trois nefs – par la gauche. Notez les pignons avec dessins géométriques, le presbytère XVIIIe s. et la ruelle du Haut-Pont coincée entre vieilles maisons et jardins. Tournez à droite et poursuivez tout droit.
Point 2
A la fourche, continuez à droite sur la RD 211 et prenez à droite la Roomsk- Cappel straete – « rue de la chapelle Romaine ». Des mares subsistent dans les pâtures, abreuvoirs pour les animaux mais aussi régulatrices de l’humidité sur les parcelles. Jadis, avant de creuser, on s’assurait généralement de la présence d’eau souterraine en faisant appel aux dons d’un sourcier.
Point 3
Empruntez à gauche la Cloet straete – Cloet était un nom de famille – sur 700 m, tournez à gauche et coupez la RD 211 – prudence. Suivez la Haeghedoorne – « haie d’aubépine » – straete en face et rejoignez une intersection. En chemin, sur votre gauche, quelques anciennes fermettes témoignent du temps où les familles nombreuses subsistaient sur des petits lopins de terre.
Point 4
Prenez à droite la Shaepe straete – « rue des moutons » – qui musarde à travers champs et pâtures, flirte avec l’Yser puis s’en éloigne. Quelques arbres creux, des haies vives et des mares confèrent une certaine ambiance. A l’horizon, à droite, se dessine la crête de Merckeghem, soulignant le tracé de l’ancien rivage.
Point 5
Empruntez à gauche la Leepe straete (rue de l’orme). Vous y croisez deux fermes anciennes : l’Ieper Hof – « la ferme de l’Orme » et la Rosendael Hof – « la ferme de la Vallée des Roseaux». La maison d’habitation de cette dernière trône sur une motte entourée d’eau.
Point 6
Au carrefour, virez à droite sur l’Haeghedoorne straete, puis, au croisement suivant, engagez- vous à gauche sur la Cappelstraete. Coupez la RD 426 – prudence – puis la route au coin d’une petite chapelle.
Point 7
Suivez à gauche la Kleine-Cassel straete. Au bout, tournez à gauche – prudence : la RD 211 est fréquentée.
Point 8
Au carrefour du Chêne-Creux (qui subsiste au coin de la rue du Castier- Houck), allez à droite, puis, au calvaire, bifurquez à gauche vers l’église.

Authenticité, simplicité, convivialité, telle est l’ambiance qui règne dans ce sympathique café typiquement flamand. Goûtez donc (avec modération) le « Picon Maison » ….. Petite restauration possible sur réservation 2-3 jours avant. Epicerie, tabac, confiserie, dépôt de pain, presse, cour, jardin. A proximité : Le circuit des Mares, GR de l’Yser, Les rives de l’Yser (vélo)
