For your own safety, always take a bottle of water, a hat, warm clothing and footwear suitable for walking.
Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
1/ In the village, take the narrow road towards the Dore river. At the crossroads, take the left-hand path. At the next intersection, leave Mayoux on your left, turn right and then left after 10 m. Cross the stream and continue on this path. Turn right at the fork. Continue along this path, ignoring the one on the left.
2/ At the crossroads, keep to the main path, ignoring those to the left and then to the right (view of Monts du Forez and Pierre-sur-Haute). At the fork in the road (view of Vollore-Ville castle and village, Grün de Chignore), continue straight ahead, skirting the riverbanks. Continue straight ahead as far as l'Olme. Cross the D 319, and take the road opposite towards Boérias. Keep to the left without entering Boérias. After Farradias, take the leftmost path.
3/ At the hamlet of Pomparias, take the track on the right. At the crossroads, take the road on the left, continuing straight ahead at the junction. 50 m further on, take the road on the right towards Busset. Take the road to the left (view of the Chaîne des Puys), cross Busset (view of the Chaîne des Puys, Forez mountains, Grün de Chignore, Vollore-Ville castle and Maubec fortified house) and continue on this road. At the crossroads, turn right.
4/ Take the first track on the left (view of the Chaîne des Puys). After 800 m, take the path on the right. Take the D 320 to the right towards Les Giliberts, then the first road to the left. At the crow's-foot turn right. Continue on this path, ignoring those on the right. At the crossroads, take the main track on the left. Cross the road and continue straight ahead.
5/ At the crossroads, turn left, cross the hamlet and continue along the road to the right as far as Coutural. Cross Coutural on the main road (view of Thiers). At the stop sign, turn left. At the fork, continue towards the water tower opposite. Leave the main road and take the path to the right alongside the water tower. At the crossroads, take the track on the left. At the D 319, turn right to reach the parking lot.
