In the heart of the Verdon Regional Nature Park, in Quinson, the Prehistory Museum of the Gorges du Verdon traces the exceptional adventure of Man in Provence since 1 million years. The museographic circuit presents the result of archaeological excavations in the Verdon since more than 50 years: a journey in time accessible to all thanks to a circuit alternating scenes of the daily life of Prehistory, interactive animations and original archaeological objects.

La particularité de ce lavoir réside dans la fontaine située à l’extrémité du bassin, dont la petite taille et la position, face à la rue, en font davantage un élément décoratif qu’utilitaire. Ici, comme dans le village, l’eau, fierté des habitants, est mise en scène et coule abondamment. Malgré cela, le lavoir reste un aménagement avant tout utilitaire : simplement couvert d’une charpente, il est placé à l’extrémité du village, près des champs où l’on pouvait étendre le linge pour qu’il sèche.

Les deux fontaines monumentales, qui marquent les deux entrées principales, sont particulièrement imposantes pour un village de la taille de Quinson. Ce sont des fontaines en fonte, de type urbain. Leurs vasques superposées qui répandent l’eau soulignent son abondance et indiquent une certaine aisance. Les sculptures, particulièrement riches, utilisent des éléments symboliques : bambins évoquant la pureté et la jeunesse, tortues symbole d’éternité…

En 1877 les eaux du Verdon furent captées et canalisées au niveau de Quinson pour alimenter la région d’Aix-en-Provence. Le village fut dédommagé et obtint une adduction d’eau directe. On décida alors d’améliorer le confort des habitants par des fontaines régulièrement réparties et d’embellir ainsi la ville. Au centre, deux fontaines adossées adoptent le même modèle. Cinq autres fontaines, toutes différentes, dont deux monumentales, sont placées régulièrement tout autour de l’enceinte médiévale.

Tout près du hameau du même nom, une source bien protégée derrière un mur avec un grand regard. La source possède avec un abreuvoir à deux bassins creusé dans la masse, un réservoir voûté et un arbre tout courbaturé, voilà le décor champêtre. Sur le cadastre napoléonien, on voit bien que la source est captée à partir d’un petit affluent du côté de la Bourre.
