








There is still a section of the road used by the Roman legions when they settled in the region after the Gallic War. It lies near the village of Veslud, to the south-east of Laon, and runs alongside the cemetery and church to reach the heights of the plateau; this route, which came from Laon via the Lavergny national forest, then reached Reims. That's why it's called the ‘Roman’ Way. It is even said that a local resident found coins bearing the effigy of the emperor Caligula... Let's set off on a discovery tour, looping back to our starting point. And don't worry, you won't have to carry the ancient Roman soldier's pack on your shoulders - it weighs almost 30 kg - a water bottle will do!
