Laon's artistic heritage is rich and varied, both in terms of public statuary and the Museum's collections: you'll see it for yourself - and they're not all there - as you take this route combining art and history out of Laon station, in the lower town... It's a lovely walk along the famous ‘grimpettes’ (the paths on the hillside of Laon) that will naturally take you to the Musée du Pays de Laon, with its local collections ranging from prehistory to the 19th century, not forgetting of course its prodigious collection of ancient art (Etruscan, Egyptian, Greek and Roman) - in short, a must for all art lovers! So let's get on with this peaceful assault on the hilltop city of Laon from the north...
Please note that the Museum adapts its opening times according to the season: - 01/04 > 31/05: Tuesday to Sunday, 1pm to 5pm - 01/06 > 31/10: Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am to 5.30pm - 01/11 > 31/03: Tuesday to Saturday, 1pm to 5pm Closed annually on 01/01, 01/05, 14/07, 24, 25 & 31/12 And there's one thing you should know: admission to the Museum (collections and temporary exhibitions) is completely free!
